In trying to set up SMTP for Thunderbird, I made a mistake in the password, typed the wrong one in, and hit the checkbox to have Lucid remember it. Now it will report a password failure BUT won't allow putting a different password in.
Does anybody know if that password storage is managed by Lucid's keyring system, or Thunderbird's? In either case, where is that bad password located so I can clear it out?
I was wondering that if its possible to send mail using my own localhost mail server, I guess I made the settings using yast2. I am not sure that I did right setup. And if I did setup my mail server correctly.

I can receive mail (pop3) no problem, but the SMTP server is not found, so I can't send Emails unless I log in to Gmail. It's especially confusing as I have the exact same setup on the WinXP box and it works perfectly.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a new 10.04 installation with thunderbird 3.04.This is on my wife's computer which is recently converted from windows XP where she used thunderbird as well.We use for the SMTP server - my own linux workstation, and used the same on her windows XP setup. Never had any problems. I am now having problems. I've tried every ****in' combination to no avail.So here are current settings:Server name: 192.168.1.3 -just as was with the Win XP setup.port 25 select User name and password. User name is entered. "use secure authentication" is unchecked.When I attempt to send I get the following:Sending of message failed.An error occured sending mail: Unable to authenticate to server 192.168.1.3 etc. etc.If I uncheck 'Use name and password', I get the following error message (in part)Relaying denied.so I'm stumped with all of these options, I've also tried secure authentication with similar problems.

I removed apparmor because of the bug not allowing the file system to be mounted. I can send via gmail, not smtp.live.com. Smtp settings are correct. Any security package setting that might be hindering this mail send action?I have UFW installed.

I want to setup sendmail using my username and password on my ISP to be able to send out messages.This is actually true as the mylocaldomain is not a public Internet domain. Just a localdomain for our local network. However, I was expecting that to change to the username in my authinfo "myusername@myispdomain" since this account is authorized to send out email with my ISP.

I need to setup a mail server, purely for relaying mail to a MS exchange server. A previous employee used Postfix on CentOS. I have limited Linux knowledge and no experience with any mail server software other than MS Exchange, so we cannot continue with this solution (unless I can find a way of managing it all from a gui). Does anyone know of an MTA that can be configured completely by GUI? Everyone says sendmail has millions of features and loads of documentation, but I simply do not have the time to learn it. I need something that can be configured with minimal knowledge and via GUI, not command line. The only reason I'm not using Exchange is to try to save money, and hopefully it will be more secure.
View 10 Replies View RelatedThis is the current setup that we have: We have approx 20 clients who pay us to send out a type of e-mail called an E-Blast to their customers. We currently are using 5 Microsoft Windows Virtual Servers to do this. The problem is that those machines are starting to break down. There are times that it will take Microsoft Windows approx 9-10 hours to complete 1 job. This is way too long. We want to move away from Microsoft Windows for this particular type of job as it seems there are more customers who are wanting to use this type of advertising.
It seems that using a Linux Server "Command Line or Shell" environment would be the best way to go as there is no GUI like Windows. Since there is just text...that is something that would/should process very, very quickly.
I am in the process of setting up a new SMTP outbound mail server. This is the current software & configuration (what is installed on this new machine):
All of the customer data (Names, E-Mail Addresses, etc that these e-mails are going to) are currently loaded in a Microsoft SQL Database.
My machine that I am using is plugged into the DMZ. I have 1 ip address for the 1 network card. I have also added/bound 4 more ip addresses to that network card.
I have configured Postfix for Multiple IP Addresses.
I can, from the command line, send successful test e-mails and receive them in my personal account.
As far as I know everything is setup correctly. I can and will post requested information so that it can be verified that everything is setup correctly.
Here are a couple of my questions:
Ensure that I have my Network / Interfaces file and my Postfix's Master.cf/Main.cf files setup correctly?
How can I setup this server to be an Outbound SMTP server and get it to use all 5 of the IP Addresses to send these e-mails quickly?
What can I use to check and ensure that this server is in fact sending out emails on all 5 IP
Addresses (I heard that there is a program named "Postal" that may help in determing this).

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am setting up a CentOS box as a NAT firewall that needs to also send mail. It needs to send this mail using an outside provider's SMTP. The provider requires SMTP over SSL. None of the machines inside the NAT will ever send mail except via the provider's SMTP nor will they ever receive mail except to local clients via the provider's IMAP servers.
So for the example the machine is TESTMACHINE. There is one internet facing ethernet port connected to a DSL modem via pppoe.
The SMTP it needs to send mail via is mail.host.net which requires SMTP over SSL (port 465) and username/password authentication.
The sendmail documentation is quite confusing on how to get this simple setup operating, so an example showing the appropriate changes to sendmail.mc and other require config files.
I understand that a movemail account under Thunderbird should be able to pick up local email from the file /var/spool/mail/ralph and put it into the TB Inbox. ralph is my account name and ralph-laptop is my hostname.) However, I don't know how to set it up to make it work. Under TB I go to File>New>Other Accounts, click Unix Mailspool (Movemail), and click next. However, at this point I don't know what to enter. Should the name be ralph (my account name)? Should the email address be ralph@ralph-laptop or my external email address at "mylastname@mchsi.com? Should the outgoing user name be ralph or mylastname (part of my external email address? Should I use my default outgoing server, which sends mail to mail.mchsi.com or should I use ralph@ralph-laptop, or just ralph-laptop?

What's the best way to set up Facebook in Thunderbird 6 so that I can have the news feed populate and continually update? Is it even possible? Also, are the Facebook messages/email functions capable of running in Thunderbird. What I would really like to do is amalgamate all my accounts into Thunderbird and make it my "one stop shop." View 5 Replies View RelatedThanks to Lucid not working properly on i845, i855 and other 8xx chips, had to re-install Karmic on my mum's computer.I saved all the data from her old install and I ve managed to get all her old emails from thunderbird, but I cant import her address book.In Thunderbird/tools/import/addressbooks it only allows importing of LDIF, .tab, .csv and .txt files, but I cant find any of these files in any of the Thunderbird, .Thunderbird, Mozilla-Thunderbird or Mozilla folders in Home folder or anywhere, all I can find is "abook.mab" which IS supposed to be her address book, but when I try and import it the entries are blank and/or indecipherable (prob cos not a compatible file type).
Its one of those "simple" things to do, thats taken hours and hours of time, but that I cant actually find out how to do.

Those 3 errors popups when i chroot my webroot dir, without chrooting it works fine and email is send.
I had a portable apps version of Thunderbird (windows) that runs off a thumb drive and wanted to take the settings and transfer them to my Thunderbird that's on my Linux computer.
This is what I did:
First, I installed thunderbird on my Ubuntu 10.04 Linux box and opened it, and closed it (so that it would create the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder in the user account).
Then, I renamed the linux /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder to .thunderbird_ORIGINAL
Then, I created a new /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder
Then, I took the windows e:ThunderbirdPortableDataprofile folder and copied it to the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder.
Then, I looked into the /home/<username>/.thunderbird_ORIGINAL folder and wrote down the name of the folder with the ".default" extension.
Then, I renamed the profile folder (that came from the windows e:ThunderbirdPortableData folder) "<name-I-wrote-down>.default".
And then, I copied the profiles.ini folder from /home/<username>/.thunderbird_ORIGINAL to the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder.
I opened up Thunderbird in Linux and everything seems fine! (I'll definitely be keeping a backup just in case)
My question is: is this fine and dandy, or a recipe for disaster?
I run version 10.04 GNOME. My problem is (after substantial searching) that I need to have both users ('juliusz' and 'sarah') running Thunderbird but with the same profile (settings, email, accounts etc. preferably of 'juliusz'). The only results on the internet are share Thunderbird between Windows and Ubuntu.
I have two users juliusz and sarah. I need either of them to have the same profile, always in synch whenever they logon to own account. When I tried to edit sarah's /home/sarah/.mozilla-thunderbird/profile.ini by inserting: Path=/home/juliusz/.mozilla-thunderbird/xxxxxxx.default after i run Thunderbird for 'sarah' I get message: "Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Thunderbird process, or restart your system." I checked with "ps aux" there is no Thunderbird running in sarah's session. There is no Thunderbird running in juliusz's session when I reloged to juliusz.
I have installed 11.4, and it seems (seemed) to work OK so far. I installed Thunderbird via the opensuse "1 click install". the installation ran smoothly, but now a click on the Thunderbird icon does not activate any mail client; the only success is that Thunderbird icon jumps joyfully and then disappears.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm running Postfix primarily as a local email server. There is no email coming in from other machines, and there are no other machines using it to send mail. But I'd like it to be able to send mail. I use Evolution for my normal email stuff, and it's configured to send mail to my ISP's smtp server, and that's working fine. But I occasionally send mail from the command line, using the "mail" or "mutt" utilities. (Mutt because the standard mail doesn't support attachments.) These don't use Evolution's configuration, they depend upon whatever is listening to port 25 - and that's Postfix. So all I should need to do is to give Postfix the smtp server, user name, and password. My problem is that Postfix has voluminous documentation online, and I haven't been able to find this simple configuration in it.
