General :: Print Multiple Independent Pages In One Print Job?
Mar 23, 2010How can I combine multiple single page prints into a single print job? For example, using Firefox on Linux one can print a web page such that each sheet of paper has four pages printed upon it. I would like to combine several separate web pages so that for example, web-page-a, web-page-b and web-page-c (each less than one print page long) are printed on a single sheet of paper.
I would like to do this without having to use some form of image editor to combine and manage manually created temporary files.

Dec 6, 2008I initially had a problem accessing the CUPS interface (see my other post) and got that resolved by adding the user "cupsys". Now, everything "looks" ok, and when I print a test page, it shows it as completed (in CUPS). However, the page never prints.
The printer is a Canon MP600 (using the canonmp600en.ppd file to configure it). Here's the output of my conf file.

Ubuntu :: Printing Corrupted - Get Substituted / Print A Blank Space / Print A Box
Mar 23, 2011Interesting problem: For the first time with Xubuntu 10.10 64bit, I am finding certain applications print corrupt. A varying amount of letters / numbers either get substituted/print a blank space/ print a box etc etc. This corruption seems to happen from a Pdf ( evince ) or Spreadheet ( Gnumeric ) Opening the same Pdf on another machine (ubuntu 10.10 32bit) prints perfectly. Opening the same .xls file on the original computer but using OOo Calc prints perfectly.
I guess I have ruled out any problems with the printer itself or the network JetDirect box. I have re-installed CUPS and evince and upgraded to the latest version of HPLIP but the problem appears unchanged.
Ubuntu :: Cannot Print PDF Files - Print Preview Shows A Blank Page
Jun 5, 2011I cannot print pdf files. I have tried using okular and xpdf. The documents display in the program, but print preview shows a blank page. The printer then sends out blank pages. I have tried printing on 2 different printers using usb cables. Using terminal to process the commands shows error:

I got it to work using another driver, but not the 'correct' one for this printer. I have searched a bit and don't see anything about ubuntu 10.10, just older versions. Or should I just network her to my printer....?

Feb 16, 2011I'm running Kubuntu 10.10 with a Laserjet 5M printer. When I attempt to print a job from Firefox or from Okular, the job never gets onto the print queue. However, I can print test pages on the printer and also print from OpenOffice, so this seems to be app-dependent. I know the jobs aren't being queued because the job number doesn't increase (as shown by the jobs for the test pages). Both Firefox and Ocular give every indication that the print job has been processed correctly.

Feb 26, 2011Not sure when CUPS started acting up. I have the latest 13.1 current software installed.The first page to print is always OK, but all succeeding pages are overwritten. The second page shows the first page on top of it, and the third shows the preceding pages on top of it - and so on. Has anyone else seen this problem?I guess the printer buffer is not getting flushed correctly. If my configurations were trashed in some way, I don't know where to look for a fix.

Jul 15, 2011Our one remaining problem seems to be printing. She has an HP OfficeJet 6500 USB printer. We have the computer conntected. Strangely, when I boot from the CD the printer shows up as installed even though I did nothing to install it. After having submitted a print job it shows the printer status as "idle" and the print queue is empty. I tried deleting that printer and re-installing. The installation went as one would expect. However the results are the same. I'm beginning to think that somehow the problem is related to the fact that we are operating from the live CD. getting this thing to print from the live CD.

I know how to export my display in an individual putty session and run whatever x app I need, but would like to be able to export the console session to my desktop also.

I tried to reverse what I did but still no display.the server boots fine then displays a window "Choose a host to connect to..." which just lists a mail server on the network.Don't know where to start looking to solve this. Aug 8, 2010I have been running kernel-2.6.33 (gentoo) with a graphical console which appears after the grub screen. My kernel parameters include `vga=0x317'. Since I upgraded my kernel I have only been able to get a 80x25 text console. If I use `vga=0x317' I get a black screen after the grub prompt. I have tried using `vga=ask' and choosing a number of resolutions - with no luck.
I've tried a "vanilla" 2.6.34 config and also a bootable Sabayon Linux disk with 2.6.34 - with the same result. Interestingly Sabayon Linux eventually fired up X successfully - after a black screen while it was booting.
Its looking like 2.6.34 doesn't like my hardware.

These go to /dev/console or serial console. Telnet will be the only way to get a console. I tried netconsole (with netcat) and it works, but it is only for kernel printk messages. I tried "program > /dev/pts/0" and it works also. it would be better if I can just change/add the console /dev/pts/0 to the existing /dev/console.

A friend gave me a copy of Ubuntu 10.10 so I've tried loading it onto an old Compaq Nx9005 Laptop yesterday. The installation seemed to progress OK, I completed all the information prompted for and then tried a reboot- but here's the problem:
It boots into the console but before the login request there are 2 lines:-
19.840039 AC'97 1access is not valid [0xffffffff], removing mixer.
19.840228 ali mixer 1 creating error.
Anyway after trying to login with user name and password it just awaits me to input a command.
Now reading through other posts I tried a Sudo startX command, this produced a large number of additional lines:

On the face of it it looks like it could possible be something to do with video drivers and/or sound drivers but just my own very limited assessment. I'm hoping that someone on this forum can come up with a reason and more importantly a solution.!
On another similar problem thread someone suggested that they might be at Run level 2 or 3 instead of run level 5 (Whatever that means!!!!).. well after entering the command run -r it tells me that I'm at level 2 but I can't change that to run level 5 by entering sudo telinit 5 - it just resorts to a command prompt

Jan 7, 2010I have just come over from the darkside (Microsoft) and am finding problems with a few items.
I am trying to configure the monitor/video card as I am having problems with the nvidia geforce 4 integrated video card. Some instructions I have sat to press ctrl alt and f1 to go to the text console. I do but it asks for a login and does not accept my user name and password.
What have I done wrong?

Another line appeared asking my 'neil' login. Tried to enter my password but typed letters wouldn't enter. What do I do?
