View 4 Replies View RelatedI think I have finally arrived at an insolvable equation:
Chromium v.7 + Ubuntu 10.04 + Sun Java 6 + Webcam + Facebook + Flash 10 = non-functional
All of those items listed above are potential points of failure in this situation, and any help narrowing them down would be fantastic. I am simply trying to enable webcame support directly through Facebooks website.
Forum searches and the usual googling turn up few posts related to this specific equation. Two of the major suggestions include:
1) Installing the Sun (I refuse to say oracle sob)-provided Java implementation instead of the OpenJDK normally installed in Ubuntu. And yes, after installing it, I did update all my default supports to use the sun commands over the openjdk.
2) Somehow enabling Facebook as a permitted site to access my webcam using Flash settings.
I have not been able to explore option 2 because I cannot find a way to adjust the Flash settings in chromium 7.
Video calls make Skype crash. I need setting up Xv on my computer.

On my Ubuntu (10.04) system, the Ativa SMP-6AS webcam has worked out of the box. On a minimalistic (no gui) Debian Lenny system, it only creates devices for audio (/dev/audio1, /dev/dsp1, /dev/mixer1), but no corresponding /dev/video0 (like it does on Ubuntu). How do I find out what driver it's using on the Ubuntu system so I can install it on the Debian?

I did some research on both Mic and Webcam, but nothing for the mic seems to work, and I can't seem to find decent instructions for installing the spca5xx driver for my webcam. lsusb result for my webcam: Bus 001 Device 002: ID 04fc:0561 Sunplus Technology Co., Ltd Flexcam 100
My mic, on the otherhand, doesn't seem to be nothing too special. It plugs into the back of the computer right next to the speakers. I've searched everywhere for how to fix these, but can't seem to find anything that works. As for my mic, I've tried installing the... linux modules backport, etc... through synaptic, nothing. I've gone through alsamixer, and sound properties. The only thing I can think of, is that the computer isn't reading my mic.
Sorry if this post is kind of scattered, but I've gotten 2 hours of sleep last night, and not able to sleep again, Also, if anyone can point me in a direction of IM services that allow AIM, MSN, and YIM chat support through my friends on the windows OS. I've heard of Skype, but I don't want to seem too demanding to ask them all to download a program just to speak with / see me.
I am using ubuntu 10.04 on a desktop PC. I have connected my 17" Dell LCD monitor with webcam (using the monitor's USB cable).
Ubuntu does not detect the webcam at all (I tried Skype and Cheese, both say no device found). (The monitor webcam works fine in Windows).
How do I make the webcam work?
Step #1: Generate DSA Key PairUse ssh-keygen command as follows:$ ssh-keygen -t dsaOutput:
Enter file in which to save the key (/home/vivek/.ssh/id_dsa): Press [Enter] key
Enter passphrase (empty for no passphrase): myPassword

View 1 Replies View RelatedJust purchased a webcam and it worked immediatelly with kopete. This was in the configuration dialog, a small window showed me moving around in all my gloriousness. Now realise why those horror films show this sort of footage.
Thing is: how to make the image bigger, fill the screen? Is there a program? Don't say rtfm, I don't know enough to do that.
I installed Fedora 10 few days back in my laptop (dell inspiron15) and i had problems with wireless connection and webcam. I have a WLAN (UTSTARCOM) Had no problems connecting to net using lan cable. But wireless was a problem.I tried changing the settings in the Network Connection window using the settings wit my ISP. Still no luck. And with my webcam like i updated wit "yum update". and i got some software application named "digikam" but tat did not detect either my lap webcam or the usb (logitech) webcam that i had.
Sorry that i could not give more details about Wireless Driver. I also would request to know the command that i should use to actually know what driver is in my laptop and also for the video driver.
