View 2 RepliesHas anyone ever streamed video and audio using VLC before? Try as I might, nothing seems to work (get garbled video or lots of buffer underrun messages from VLC server). The videolan website claims that all the documentation on streaming is outdated too, so there's no help there.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for Webcam Streaming software that can stream over HTTP.I've done a bit of looking on google and can't find a good solution.Ideally it would be streaming video with sound.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a USB webcam connected to a server (dmesg output below). It is currently running Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS server edition. So it has no X, and I don't want to install any. What I am looking for is a command line program to capture video from this webcam and store it. Also, something that can capture just pictures would be nice (but once I have a video file, I know how to get individual pictures from that). A nice plus would be setting this up as a video stream for other computers to stream the video from (to do what they can do with a stream, like view it in real time, capture individual pictures, save it). If setting up a stream makes the capture part easier, I could go for that. This camera works in the cheese GUI program on a desktop. Colors are bad in bright lights, but then, it's a cheap camera.
I prefer the output/stream in a free/libre video format (vp8/webm, ogg/theora, or dirac), but other formats that Linux software exists for (to record and play) can work if the free ones can't be done. Google finds lots of GUI ways to do this (mostly references to cheese). I did find one page that suggests "mencoder". But it doesn't find this webcam. I found a camera stream server called "camserv". It seems to find this camera, but then freezes. When I start camserv, the camera's blue light goes off, but no video is ever delivered from a web page reference. When I stop it, the camera is in an unusable state and has to be unplugged to reset it (so it can be used with "cheese"). So I'm looking for other software.

I'm trying to use a Panasonic DVCPro HD camera as a webcam to stream live video from the camera to services like ustream.tv. Currently, the only way I can find to connect the camera to my computer puts the camera into a special pc connect mode (which does not allow recording) and makes the cameras p2 cards detected as drives. Obviously, this doesn't help me do live streaming (I don't even need to record on the camera).I've seen that on Mac OS X a program called camtwist can be used to do what I want, but it would be nice to find an ubuntu/linux solution.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an apache server here that i would like to add a webcam to, to stream video to a webpage hosted on said server. Now i hit some trouble using 10.10 with v4l2 not being able to make use of my webcam.
So this is where i stand right now:
I have ubuntu 9.10 Server installed Apache2 (good install, shows default page on networked computers) Static IP of 192.168.1.4 openssh (works fine) Samba sharing /var/www to my windows machine Logitech C120m connected via USB 2.0
I have tryed 2 guides using both webcam-server and VLC, Neither worked however one would show a single frame when i connected to the webpage when i tryed on other ubuntu desktop, but wouldn't refresh unless i rebooted. I tryed the webcam on my other 9.10 computer and it worked fine with cheese (Video0 is there on the server)
The server has pretty much a clean install with nothing on it (yet). I have 3 empty 40GB hard drives, so installing and testing another release of ubuntu.
I successfully installed darwin streaming server .. I stream Audio through internet well but videos I can stream locally in my network only .. when I am connected to internet outside my network .. it doesn't stream I think their must be ports opened for that .. or any 1 have any ideas .. the audio is streamed on port 8000 .. video is streamed on port 7070 but locally only .. I opened those 2 ports in my router only the audio is working .. also I opened ports 554,7170 disabled the firewall of the router .. is it a problem of ports or something else .

View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to get VLC to work streaming RTP audio/video over my office network. The goal is multicast a/v streaming. In all test cases, we are streaming from VLC to VLC. I am able to stream from Windows to Windows, and from Fedora to Windows, but not from Windows to Fedora. Additionally, I am unable to receive a LOCAL stream from one instance of VLC to another, within Fedora.
I don't see any reason why this would be. The buffer indicator (where the elapsed/total time is normally displayed) never shows any connectivity, so it would appear to be a network problem, but since I am able to stream from Fedora to Windows (same IP, same port) I thought it would be something else.Does anyone know of a solution to this issue?
EDIT: Correction to previous edit: the IGMPv3 protocol was just not being picked up by Wireshark. Reverting to IGMPv2, I am able to pick up the Membership Report, Join, and Leave group packets from the Linux machine. I'm using the GUI to configure the following:
CLIENT
rtp://@239.255.12.42 :rtp-caching=1000
SERVER:
screen:// :screen-fps=30.000000 :screen-caching=300 :sout=#transcode
{vcodec=mp4v,vb=800,fps=30,acodec=mp4a,ab=128,channels=2,samplerate=44100}
:rtp{dst=239.255.12.42,port=5004,mux=ts}
:no-sout-rtp-sap :no-sout-standard-sap :sout-keep
MOST of this is default settings, for the given methods, which I haven't really changed. I've also tried adding the :5004 to the client URL to explicitly give the port, but received no different effect.

I am so fed up with my Sony HDR that is already obsolete. As I am a linux geek, I have been thinking on building my own media central. Reading various hardware support list gives some information about if a card works or not, but not if its good. Also, I would like to buy a card from a vendor that actively supports linux. Can someone recommend a really good DVB-T card?
I would need: DVB-T support.Radio as an option.Two or more channels, three seems like the maximum that I would ever need, but who knows. Doesn't matter if its one or two cards, as long as it works. CAM support. Additional card or built in. I have no idea of how this works actually, but I think the CA module must support mpeg4 too? HDTV/Mpeg4 support (Software is fine, I guess.) I would also need a good remote control (bluetooth) that not neccesarily needs to come with the card, and a decent fanless graphics card that handles hdtv on linux...
I was wondering if anyone knew of any [client] software that takes an audio stream from an input - the mic - samples it, optionally codes it with a codec, and then packetize it to send over the network to an IP address and port number.And on the same machine and other machines can be [server] software listening on a port that would take any packets arriving on that port from another IP address, depacketize it, optionally decode it, and output it - to the speaker.

Is there a way to instruct mencoder to stop streaming/recording after a specified period associated with a loss of signal?I use mencoder to record over-the-air television recordings. Most of the time there are no problems.Occasionally a station's transmission signal disappears, caused by quirky atmospheric conditions, usually at night.Noticing these signal outages is easy by the mencoder error message:dvb_streaming_read, attempt N. %x failed with errno %y when reading %z bytes"Lengthy outages are unbearable because mencoder silently waits forever rather than quit.
The significant problem with lengthy signal outages is mencoder continues recording for the time specified by the -endpos parameter. Thus, for example, if the recording is scheduled for 2 hours and there is a 20 minute loss of signal, the recording does not end until 2 hours and 20 minutes after starting.Generally, when the interruption is lengthy the recording is ruined and I don't care to watch. I would like to programmatically tell mencoder to stop waiting and quit.Is there a way to do this? Say, after ten minutes of no signal, just terminate do not notice any parameters that might offer that option, but I could be overlooking something obvious. I tried the -skiplimit parameter with no success.
I'm trying to capture a video from a site in Japan. Unfortunately, most of the video downloader tools don't seem to work. Since I'm using Firefox I'm guessing I can't look in my local cache. Is there any way to find it?They might block you if you're not in Japan. I used to use a proxy server when I was in the US but after a while it didn't work.

perhaps it would be prudent to upgrade to 10.04 but this seems to be a work in progress and might lead me into further problems. on the other hand i could work up to ubuntu 9.10 if it would be more likely to work better the get to 10.04 when it is further along. i am pretty useless with the command line.on the whole ubuntu has worked well until this problem came up.
I have a question regarding the possibility of streaming video using an Apache web server configured as a reverse proxy. Suppose I have a local web server and areverse proxy that is abroad. I want users that are nearer the reverse proxy to be served by it and not my local web server. I know in general how to configure this and there is a lot of documentation. But can it be configured to support video file streaming without saving all the media content in the reverse proxy disk?
