I have and embedded system which apparently, due to space considerations, is missing lots of normal commands. I can get the following information by "cat /proc/version":
Linux version 2.4.19-uc0 (...) (gcc version 2.95.3 20010315 (release)(ColdFire patches - 20010318 from http://fiddes.net/coldfire/)(-msep-data patches)) #461 Tue May 24 12:06:06 PDT 2011
At issue is the fact that, after some time, the system stops responding to the Network (e.g., you can ping it, then some time later you can't). We suspect that some sort of network monitor is accessing the device and causing the trouble, but don't know for sure.
What I would like to do is log some sort of useful network status information and/or be able to reset the network if I can figure out there is an issue from within the device.
I thought I had it all working using "/etc/init.d/network restart" but I've come to find out that the command is not recognised in this system. I also can't issue a "top" command to see what services are running. I can Telnet in, so I can try commands and see if they work.
Have any of you worked with such an abbr. system and if so, what might be around that I'm unaware of to help determine network status?
I would like an old desktop box to use my laptop as a router to access the internet. Here is my setup:
I have one ethernet port in the side of my laptop which I want to use to get internet access to my desktop computer. The laptop is connected to the LAN via a wireless link. Both systems run Linux. The desktop autoconfigures itself using DHCP. The laptop is a Kubuntu system. I do not have any crossover cables, though wireshark on the laptop sees the DHCP requests from the desktop just fine, so I doubt that I need one.
What do I have to do to make this work?
I installed slackware 12.1 from files i downloaded and converted to cd (images). There are six "disks" i downloaded from the slackware site and converted to images via a homemade .cmd in windows xp and then burned using imgburn.
I partitioned my hd (canibalized from an acquaintance's emachine and connected it to my desktop (1G ram, 2Ghz processor). Booted from disk 1 and fomatted the 80G HD for 2 partitions of linuxswapable at 2G apeice and 2 partitions of bootable linux. (Because i want to try another distro later). I ran the setup installing most everything and all seemed to go well. After i exited setup and restarted, it identifed the cd/hd as normal and then went into some sort of recovery mode with the emachine logo call pcangel, after which it tells me.
STOP: c0000021a (fatal system error) The session manager initialization system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc000003a (0x00000000 0x00000000). the system has been shut down. So, is this indeed an xp error message, and if so, why am i getting it after formatting everything?
I have installed dhcp3-server via apt-get install dhcp3-server, but I couldn't find any initscript. So, how can I start and stop it properly ?
For now , I have added "dhcpd" line in rc.local.
I don't really have a reason for this currently. I recognize all the MAC address on my DHCP client list and keep it rather well locked down. I was just wondering if there was something I could run on the terminal to get more information on a given MAC address on my network. Something kind of like whois for websites.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am very interested in using CentOS as a server for diskless PXE booting and was wondering if this was a possibility. I have a working DHCP/TFTP/HTTP system set up and going and I can get my client machine to boot a linux image without any problems. Ideally I would like the diskless machines to be able to immediately load an image through PXE and store their own filesystems on the server through the use of NFS.I heard about system-config-netboot and got very excited because it sounded like something that would help me set up a diskless system. However, after doing some research I have heard from many that it is generally buggy and unlikely to work. When I tried using it I got the error: "The diskless directory must be NFS exported and contain a boot sub-directory"Even though my diskless directory WAS nfs exported and most definitely contained a boot sub-directory. Does anyone have any advice on using this tool, or using CentOS as a server for diskless clients?

I planned to get it using popen(). I was success popen("top | grep Mem", "r") with top command. But are there a way to take such information using "htop". Or are there any idea of taking current CPU,MEM,Swp usage as well as Tasks and running tasks using htop or other way to C program...

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just upgraded to Lucid on Ubuntu. I am a long time Pidgin user. I tried using Empathy with Gwibber, but I can't get Gwibber to update my IM status(es) in Empathy, so I want to go back to using Pidgin. (Additionally, I can't get Skype to work with Empathy.)I installed pidgin-microblog and pidgin-mbpurple, and they allow me to view my Twitter feed in Pidgin and update my Twitter status in Pidgin. However, in Karmic, I was also able to specify certain "status availabilities" (one named "Twitter-Available" and one named "Twitter-Away", for instance) to have the IM status message for these statuses become populated with my Twitter feed. This capability seems missing in pidgin-mbpurple in Lucid (and it seems to be the only thing missing from Karmic).
Is there a way to have pidgin-mbpurple update certain "status availabilities" in Lucid (and I'm just missing something) or is this no longer possible?Equivalently, is it possible to have Gwibber update my status message in Empathy? (I just want to be able to update my status once on one of my three computers - and have it propagate to all my other accounts (IM and social networking) and computers).
Perhaps it is not proper to post on this forum. Sorry for any inconvenience.

However, quite a large number of packages do NOT install because of missing dependencies, all of which seem to trace back to 'system-logos'. Unfortunately, I can find no trace of this package in the 'yum list available' output. Google came up with nothing. If you can help, it would be MUCH appreciated! BTW, I've also tried 'fedora-logos' and 'linux-logos' without success.
