Is there a way to add a keyboard shortcut for a terminal command in OSX. Basically most of the times i open the terminal app in MAC in order to ssh into a certain server foo. What I want to do is add a keyboard shortcut (say ^k) so that on a terminal when I do that, it runs "ssh foo" in the terminal.

After changing the hostname, you need to reboot your machine. That fixed it
For awhile I have had this issue with the command line and every time I try to complete any command that requires GTK graphics, It always returns the error "Error: cannot open display: 0:" The "EXPORT display" command that I normally use to fix this issue is not working. The only issue that I can think might be the cause for this could be my upgrade to natty (which was in fact a clean installation), or when I edited plymouth so that the startup and shutdown animations would match my laptop's native resolution (by the way I would also appreciate it if I could do the same with the startup animation, only the shutdown really works). If anybody know how I could resolve this issue I would greatly appreciate it. Oh and for specifics on my machine, I am using an ASUS N82 with an NVIDIA GEFORCE GT335M graphics card, running Ubuntu 11.04.

View 1 Replies View RelatedFor some reason my gnome-terminal is starting in / when it should be ~ I have checked /etc/profile, ~/.bashrc and /etc/passwd and everything seems fine as far as i can tell Konsole and xterm are starting up with the working dir to my home dir (as set by /etc/passwd) But im at a loss to see where gnome-terminal is starting in / if i enter cd with no argumants in gnome-terminal it is switching to ~ fine, so i dont think its mistaking my home dir for /

If I'm in a terminal window, and I open a file by typing eg :
It opens as a blank document... I know it has text in it though!
I've tried with other files and also with nano so it's not just a problem with a particular file.
How do I view the current contents of the file so I can then edit it?
I've just installed xterm, ant trying to run it from my windows machine using ssh. I have X11Forwarding yes on /etc/ssh/sshd_config when I use, MobaXterm, np, I can use xterm after I log ssh -X xxx

If I'm using gnome-terminal in a working directory whose path includes symlinks and I open a new tab, the symlinks will be expanded to their destinations in the working directory of the new tab.
Is there any way to preserve the symlinks when opening a new tab?
I have a problem that I'm not sure how best to debug. About every other time when I boot my system, I get a condition where listing the files in /root locks up that xterm session. This can be cleared by opening another xterm window and killing the listing command. This happens on "ls -a", "find", "tar" and I think "stat" also. The locked up xterm echo's chararcters but does not respond to any control sequences. This is new with FC11.This has only been seen to happen for root. And once a system is booted with this problem it seems to persist until you get it booted without the problem.

The problem does NOT show with KDE default settings with display effects on but does show in fvwm, xfce etc, and in KDE without effects.
On a system with a Sandy Bridge integrated graphics (i5-2400) the problem went away by downgrading to xf86-video-intel-2.13.0. But it was not enough for another system with 945G which needed downgrading to xf86-video-intel-2.12.0.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI used to be able to open a terminal when viewing a folder and the terminal would automatically be in that directory so all I would have to do is type the command. Now, it doesn't seem to work like that. No matter what folder I'm viewing within Konquerer or Dolphin, the terminal is always at the /home folder no matter what. Can I change this behavior and set it to the way it used to work on my old system? (SuSE 10.0)

In startup applications, I made "gnome-terminal --full-screen" open up and in the profile preferences of gnome-terminal I made it run my startup script. There are two problems though.(1) At startup, 2 terminals are opened (one fullscreen, one not fullscreen)(2) By bash script runs and keeps on running (how do I get it to display another input line?)
