I have ubuntu 10.04 on my HP Compaq laptop, and use evolution mail. Is there a way to delete an attachment I received, while keeping the rest of the body of that mail?

Yesterday I received a mail from LQ informing me about a reply to a thread named "operating system linux".
I am not able to open, delete, edit that mail.
I'm working on a Perl script that handles e-mails and attachments using MIME::Tools.
This script saves the attachments on filesystem, but whenever it finds an "&" (ampersand) into the filename (the filename is given by the "path" method of the "MIME::Body" class), it is changed into "%26" and then stored on disk.
To make an example, if an attachment is named "You & me.pdf", it is saved on disk as "You %26 me.pdf".
I also tried to change that char with a regexp and setting again the path passing the new (and working) value as a parameter to the "path" method, and if I print the value it is right, but on the filesystem is *always* stored with the "%26" string.

View 14 Replies View RelatedTrying to write a small php program to send emails using a form. I have collected all the information in php variables and I can send the mails just fine. But I need some neat and clean formatting for the mail that is received and hence thought html tables would be nice. But all the html tags are received as plain text and not html though I have mentioned in headers content-type to be html. Any links? If anyone can put some light on it? I thought that html tags would just work fine without much issue. I have tried same with asp and it worked.
PS: I am no programmer. Just trying my hands out on some php.
Edit: I am using a php mailer class from php classes to send mails. I need some way to use an external smtp server for sending mails. I have seen pear but I do not want to use pear. It is not available on the server I am testing and it is not possible for me to install it. I do not have access to install pear and can not ask to install it.
My script collects information and writes it to a xls file and should mail it across. I tested the first part of the script which writes the excel file , it does write the excel file fairly with expected data using Spreadsheet::WriteExcel module Second part uses MIME::Lite , All I get is a mail with intended subject intact but without the attachment . Following is the code , I have googled and tried out many options , didn't go any further apart from receiving a mail without attachment.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running a blog on posterous. Some friends of me post messages there via mail, mostly with some PDF attachments. These PDFs are generated mostly on a MAC with Word. The standard extension of these files is foobar.doc.pdf. Unfortunately, Posterous ignores attachments with the extension .doc.pdf.
So, I'm looking for some workaround. For example, I could my web server with some script, which receives these mails, converts the filenames of the attachment in some way and posts the result to my posterous blog. Therefore I'm looking for some mail processing scripts, which enable me to do so.
Working in a SW company. guys transfer their codes through email outside the company. mailserver running on postfix. Is there any method to filter mails according to contents of attachment not by file extension.

I managed to get my hylafax server nice and going, I also setup up AvantFax and Faxy to reach it from the web..What I still want to do it to send a mail from my blackberry device with a JPEG attachment, and have it forwarded as a FAX to the recipient fax machine...

I installed and configured postfix per the guide on help.ubuntu.com. Everything seems to work fine with smtp and it says that my emails are being sent, but I never receive them.What could be causing this problem?The local mailbox shows that the email was sent.Mail.log shows that the message was delivered to the mailbox.
View 5 Replies View Relatedso my Evolution worked fine. I was able to send and receive messages. THen I switched my ISP from a local provider to Comcast. I did nothing to Evolution and now it won't send my emails. I still receive stuff fine. I am using GMail's SMTP server.

Sendmail isn't sending mail for some reason and keeping it in the Queue. I attemped to flush them but it deferres the connection to the server in which it is trying to relay the message to. I have checked to see if there is a DNS error or anything like that. I attemped to flush the messages through webmin.

I am not finding anything in the logs to let me know their is an error. I can ping the mail servers that it is trying to send to. Now it has started delaying when ping MX servers. So I knew something was starting to mess with it. I have checked the /etc/hosts. It is correct. The server isn't black listed. Mail to root just gives me.

I am using Postfix on CentOS to send mail through a relayhost. The mail sends fine, but on certain clients such as the mail client on the iPhone or Windows Live Mail, the message is received with '(No Sender)' in the sender field. The Apple Mail client on the iMac works just fine.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have 5 mailboxes provided by my ISP, which I have been using since 2005 with IMAP.1 month ago my Thunderbird client under both 9.04 (desktop) and 9.10 (laptop) started refusing to delete any incoming mail in one of my mailboxes (but not in the other 4).
Error message: "(...) Mail server responded: System I/O Error" 1 week ago, same problem for another mailbox (but not for the other 3), again affecting both machines. Evolution does delete incoming mail on these 2 mailboxes, no issues at all. Have googled, found only one solution (imap folder corrupt), but nothing makes sense.
