General :: Capturing And Parsing Xterm Cut Buffer In EMacs
Jan 17, 2010
I'd like to make an indirect control for Emacs (in Ubuntu Linux) so that I can swipe some text in an xterm with the cursor, cutting it into the X cut buffer, then run a macro in Emacs to parse the cut buffer text to look for text saying "line XXXX" where X is all digits, then go to that line in the current Emacs buffer. I think this is possible by using emacsclient to get emacs to run a macro, then the macro parsing the cut buffer, then issuing a goto-line command to the number that's been parsed. My problem is I don't know how to write the emacs script to read the X cut buffer and parse it.. I've been going through cookbook examples but none seem to fit.
My goal is to ease development. When I have an error/information/status message printed in an xterm, I want to swipe the error message which says something like "syntax error on line 2776" then press a keyboard shortcut which Ubuntu will interpret to launch emacsclient, which causes my already-open Emacs to grab that text, parse it, and go to the line number I just swiped. Only this last step of parsing is the hard part. (Yes, I know you can run a shell INSIDE of emacs, but this is doesn't fit my workflow). How would I make emacs look at that X cut buffer and parse out the line number and issue the "goto-line" command to the current buffer?
Start xpdf or gv. Click an xterm to be active and slide it over xpdf/gv. Vertical lines from xpdf/gv under the xterm stick to the xterm window above and make it unreadable.
The problem does NOT show with KDE default settings with display effects on but does show in fvwm, xfce etc, and in KDE without effects.
On a system with a Sandy Bridge integrated graphics (i5-2400) the problem went away by downgrading to xf86-video-intel-2.13.0. But it was not enough for another system with 945G which needed downgrading to xf86-video-intel-2.12.0.
I want to capture PID of a program and kill it using the PID if the program is been executing beyond 5 seconds. The problem I'm facing is I have another copy of the same program running under different shell script, and the above code is killing both the process. How do I specifically kill the program which has started under the current running shell script.
I am capturing the response of three URLs which are in file named urls.txt using following command and write response in output.txt file.
####Code############ wget -i urls.txt -q -O - | tee output.txt ###########End of code Now i am finding the case where url is not responding and that output is not available to me in the file and on console i am getting "Could not connect to host".
Now I want to modify my urls.txt to have two fields: Name and URL Example: URL1 | http://10.0.0.2/xsc/abc URL2 | http://10.0.0.1/lkj/csv URL3 | http://10.0.0.5/sdf/plk
I want to execute each url and print there response against each name Example: URL1 : CONNECTED URL2 : NOT CONNECTED URL3 : NOT CONNECTED
I want to prefix the number of ✔ to corresponding row If I use the command :.s/✔//gn I get output written like '2 matches on 1 line' How can I extract the '2 matches' in above case ?
I want local programmatic access to ssh output in Mac Terminal. First, I tried redirecting the output of each command to a file. The file was perfect, but of course it was on the remote server, and an sftp for each command output seemed a little.. Next, I tried to Applescript Terminal, but it only gives access to the currently visible text in a tab (i.e. if half the output has already scrolled out of sight, it doesn't get returned - useless).
Last, I tried piping ssh to tee (e.g. ssh user@host | tee output.txt). This almost worked. I have the output in a local file, but there are a lot of unwanted characters mixed in. For example, every time I hit backspace, there's a ^H in the file. There's also text like "[0m[K" which is harder to get rid of.
I'm just wondering if there is a video capturing program that can, at the least record what is on my computer screen (including what is on Wine) and at the most capture what is on my webcam as well.
Minicom was running fine two days ago capturing data from a gage device via a serial cable. Yesterday, users of the data started complaining that they were not receiving any data.
The minicom status line reads offline. Is this part of the problem or is this normal (I never really noticed it before.) All settings on the gage device match the minicom settings.
I'm often playing videos from my external hard disk, and, well, it has issues. It'll often spin down and it often takes 5-10 seconds to spin back up in order to keep reading files. This is really terrible for video playback, as it'll often completely hang until the drive spins back up. Is there a way that I can tell VLC to set a larger buffer to at least give me more buffer into the future so the drive will have time to spin up when the buffer runs out?
I've just installed xterm, ant trying to run it from my windows machine using ssh. I have X11Forwarding yes on /etc/ssh/sshd_config when I use, MobaXterm, np, I can use xterm after I log ssh -X xxx
but when I use Cygwin, and do ssh -X xxx, and then xterm, I have: xterm XT error : Can't open display: xterm: Display is not set
I am having a Oracle server installed on Linux server. I want to clear the buffers after a certain time interval. I use the following command for the same.
echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches
Can I have a script which will execute the above script after certain time interval OR a script which will execute the above command when certain memory size is reached.
I need to use php to run some scripts locally. I tried it with system, exec But it only brings back on line. Ideally I want to take all the out put back on my browser.
PHP ------>shell scripts ------> error + plus out put ^--------------------------------------------| some thing like that.
I am working on the script to parsing the log message . the followings are my task:1. Read the multiple log files, such as N1-2009-10-01, N2-2009-10-2, N3-2010-01-02....2. Parse the specific message, such as "aaaa"3. If found the "aaaa" message in the log file and export to excel file PS. i use zgrep:zgrep -a --text "aaaa" * > /home/TTS/myfileand inside file looks like:
I would like to set Y and P to copy and paste directly to the system clipboard instead of vim buffer. I don't want any additional commands. Just the normal ones, but they should copy to and paste from the system clipboard and bypass the vim buffer.
I've got some high quality videos I want to run on vlc, but they require a higher buffering rate then the default for vlc. With the default the video skips every second or so and pixelates now and again. I've run the video on vlc on windows before and I found a buffer rate to change to make the video run smoothly, however, I don't remember what the value I changed was and when I looked through the ubuntu vlc options I didn't recognize it immediately.
so here's the problem : is there any way to evaluate the fakeFile's contents (in the fakeScript), so that the term "$(date +%F)" (or any other bash script) in a string , translates to it's corresponding value ? (in this example , we want to have "blah current date" instead of " blah $(bash script) blah " )
I am using nessus to scan systems, and it generates the report file without any specific delimiter. Shown below is how a typical line in the file reads (It might show up as a very long line.
Code:
xx.xx.xx.xx|cpq-wbem (2301/tcp)|49272|REPORT|Synopsis :;;The remote web server is affected by multiple vulnerabilities.;;Description :;;According to its self-reported version number, the HP System;Management Homepage install on the remote host is earlier than 6.2. ;Such versions are reportedly affected by the following ;vulnerabilities :;; - Session renegotiations are not handled properly, which; could be exploited to insert

The field of interest (for me) are IP ADDRESS, Synopsys, Description, Solution and Risk Factor. I tried the following command to parse this:
But this would not give desired results as ':;;' is not a standard delimiter and hence gives incorrect results. how to grab everything that occurs between the strings 'Synopsys', 'Description', 'Solution' & 'Risk factor' in the above example? In other words i may be asking to use multiple delimiters.. in the order of occurance.. is there a tool that supports multiple delimiters?
I'm working on a alias/script that will make it easier to look at my environment via the set command.
On my ubunto when running set it also displays some 10 pages of code pertaining to something called "imagemagik". at the end of the output. This code begins with the { character.
This is annoying if I want to look at my environment when working on scripts. How could I use something like grep, awk, sed, or whatever to ignore everything after the "{" character.
That seems to be the simplest way as long as there are no leading brackets in my environment. (And if you're thinking I should just remove {imagemagik}, I might just do that. But I still would like to know how to do this).
I'm using CentOS 5.4 servers installed in a VMWare virtual machine with no X.Org server installed, so all access is via command line and the linux terminal. I use Shift-PgUp to view the scrollback buffer, but its size is very limited. How do I increase the size of the scrollback buffer?
I need a shared buffer between user and kernel space. I read that one way is to allocated buffer in kernel and then call mmap from the user space. I searched for an example but couldn't find something useful. If you know, could you please send me any links or sample code that does this..
Im having xeltek eeprom programer but I cannot read the chip data on the buffer file, when I read the chip using programer the datas are being sent to the buffer I can just see the adress line ,hex line and ascii line then I dont know which is the exactly data ,
