Ubuntu Installation :: No Hard Drives Are Recognized
Jul 18, 2010When i try to install ubuntu 10.04 on my desktop i get through the first 3 steps which are Language, Region, and Keyboard. when i get to Prepare partitions, there is nothing there (same problem with 9.10). I followed the steps of another thread about removing the raid settings and I am sure i did that correctly but it did not work, when i try to find my drives in terminal they can not even be found.
Both of my drives are SATA, one is 250gb, other is 500gb. They are both recognized by other operating systems. I have switched the SATA headers that they are plugged into. I really am just not sure what else to do here. Im not totally stupid at linux, ive been using it for a few years and i have taken two classes for linux in the past year. I really feel dumb for not being able to figure this out :/

Fedora recognizes the other drives but it seems the data on those drives is not there anymore. The below images are screen shots from my computer folder and disk utility program. I tried to look through Fedora documentation but I did not find a solution to my case.

Jul 2, 2010I just got fedora 13 today and put it on a slightly older computer to mess around with it, and two things I realized.
1. I installed Flash player through a program called easyLiving, but when i play flash games online like on armorgames, everything will play fine, but sound will play about 2 seconds late with actions.
2. I can't play .wmv files from my MP3 player, I found some codes online and installed them, but now it just looks like I have 3 different audio players in mozilla and I'm not sure which kind to enable, and I still can't play .wmv movies. (I actually believe that problem 1 is unrelated, because I noticed it before I started downloading different audio players.)

I watch the video, and the audio is fine for a few seconds, but then the audio cuts off as the video continues to play. Sometimes, when I move the scrollbar of the screen/pause and replay the movie, it starts back up again for a few seconds then shuts off or plays the audio I just heard.

Apr 25, 2010running kubuntu 9.10 karmic koala, and my sound settings -at first glance- seem to be in order... a strange thing is occurring, is my machine haunted? my sound works when:
a. the machine boots up
b. files are played in dragon player
c. the machine shuts down
my sound does not work when:
1. i try to play streaming flash videos online (e.g. videos videos show the image but no sound will play)
2. the same goes for vlc media player: images yes, sound no.
3. i use skype *edit: additional problem*
i made no changes, that i know of, to my machine before this started happening. one day everything was working fine and i turned off my machine to go to sleep. the next day, i turn on my machine, and surprise, the sound doesn't work in some instances.

Jul 7, 2010I recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 and I've been having problems with flash player. The problem occurs when I'm trying to play a video clip on You Tube or on similar sites. Video clips do not play properly, videos run slowly and with many interruptions, while on the other hand the sound is excellent and my internet connection is OK, only the quality of the video is poor.
I am using:
intel celeron 1800MHz
512 SD ram
ATI Radeon 9550

My question is simple: How would one make some interactive online graphic like this on linux using open-source tools? ideally, I would also like it to work on the client side using only open-source tools. I also put the flashplugin.so file into /home/MyUserName/.mozilla/plugins/. Not sure what can be done to make Midori work with Flash in Fedora. I am experienced with other linux distributions but I am brand new to Fedora.

Dec 28, 2010I have 64bit Maverick installed and am using VirtualBox 3.2.12 to run 32bit XP Home. In the devices menu, nearly all the USB devices are grayed out. The printer is the only exception. It is working fine. If I plug in a flash drive (memory stick or whatever one wants to call it), Ubuntu sees it and it appears in the menu but is grayed out. When I remove the device, it disappears from the menu. This tells me that VirtualBox sees them. How do I get to access these USB devices? What have I omitted to do?
