Mar 1, 2010A recent (last couple of days) update to Fedora12 involving libunicap seems to have completely trashed VLC video player -- as in causing it to be completely uninstalled. No biggie, I thought; when I went to reinstall it, I saw that VLC 1.0.5-1 fc12 was available. Tried to install it, and KPackageKit calmly proceeded to throw up, telling me:

Wonderful. Now I don't have a video player that natively does mpg/avi; Dragon Player pretends to play them, but there's no video; same with Xine. BTW, I tried to report this via Bugzilla at Redhat, but couldn't find anything that resembled a way to report an actual bug/problem (what app doesn't work, how it doesn't work, any error messages).

Software :: Audio Player - Get AIMP2 Work In Wine On Mint 9?
Mar 21, 2011I'm looking for great audio player that has it all - sound quality, easy to use, functionality and eye-candy if possible. For Windows there is plenty great players - Foobar2000, Winamp, Apollo(sound quality isn't skinnable), The KMPlayer etc... but my favourite is AIMP2 - it's awesome for people who have lot of music files and want everything from other players.. I tried QMMP and Audacious(remade XMMS) and Amarok but they doesn't offer much.. Also i tried run AIMP2 with wine but it doesn't work in Mint 9(it did on Ubuntu Ultimate 2.8 though for some reason) and foobar2000 but some features of this program are blocked in wine like equalizer preset load + firefox addon to control foobar while browsing web can't be used aswell..i also went through alternative list(P.S.) but i don't see anything close..

Nov 30, 2010I am wanting to add Linux Mint to my computer, but I do not have the room to really do a real install on my computer beside Ubuntu and Vista, so I want to install it on a VirtualBox machine. I have a few questions before I do so. A.) Is all this reversible? B.) It will not affect my current system. Like, if something goes wrong with the install for some reason, it will not affect my current Ubuntu OS, which I will be installing it under. C.) When it asks you to create a hard drive, that is reversible, right? And it's only used when you are using VB? D.) About the hard drive you have to create. I have 2 partitions partitions that I use mainly, my / Linux partition, and OS, which is my Windows NTFS partition. If I create the hard drive on OS, will that mess up the VB?

Mar 12, 2010I've been using Linux Mint happily for a while until a couple of days ago it just died. Froze up, nothing I could do would free it up other than a hard reset. So, I tried to install it again from a Live CD, but my laptop won't even boot into Live mode. It just sits there, saying 'Loading....'. which it frankly isn't. I suspect a major hardware fault has occurred, but have no idea what. Any ideas?

I have burnt the iso to a CD and when I use it within the VM, I see the Mint splash screen start but then the VM goes into a power down state and stops. In Terminal I have tried to run it using sudo sh followed by the filename but get the message it can't find the file. Aug 11, 2010I want to install Mint 9 KDE but I need to specify some installation parameters. I need to set the default filesystem as EXT3 so I can create a disk image with Acronis True Image that doesn't support EXT4 yet.
I've done the same with Ubuntu Server 10.04 by including the parameter 'partman/default_filesystem=ext3' at the installation console. I know Mint 9 Gnome can also be installed direct from the CD, but the KDE Live DVD doesn't give me any such option - just the desktop installer.

I was wondering if I can install RAID 1 during the installation from the Live CD.I have managed to set up RAID from the Live CD and install Linux Mint 11 to it, but on reboot it will not recognize the RAID volume as mdadm is not installed. Can I install RAID drivers from my Live CD onto the installed Mint using chroot and get Mint to recognise the volumes on reboot? Is there a better alternative?
I know this would be a trivial exercise using the Alternate CD in Ubuntu but Mint does not have an Alternate CD (at least that I aware of).

I have read that the logitech c200 webcam is compatible with my laptop, and should just install as soon as i plug it in. General :: Tried To Install Mint To Flash Drive / Can't Boot From Main Hard Disk
Jan 15, 2011I wanted to install a Linux distro to a flash drive so that I can have a portable OS with all my settings, programs, etc. wherever I go. So I fired up a Linux Mint Live CD and installed Mint to the flash drive, and this seems to work OK. But now, whenever I try to boot up my system normally without the flash drive plugged in, it doesn't seem to work. It basically hangs for a bit, and then I get the following prompt:
However, when I try powering my system up when the USB is plugged into the computer, it gives me an option between using the OS installed on my USB and the OS installed on my HD. Selecting the latter, everything loads up just fine. I'm guessing that installing Mint to the flash drive somehow messed with my native Grub installation.
