View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been having some problems with online videos and my webcam. Somebody suggested that it's something to do with video drivers. What drivers do I need to install and how?

The video projector I have to use this week projects an image too large for its screen and spills over on every side.
Fixing the physical setup is not possible or at least unlikely for the moment: the only solution is to carefully resize and position windows so that they display in the visible part of the screen - using full-screen mode is out.
Is there a way around this via software, using xrandr for example?
# xrandr doesn't have a padding option...xrandr --output VGA1 --mode 1360x768 --left-of LVDS1 --padding 200
I was trying to take advantage of that new HTML5 <video> tag, and Firefox 3.5's native Ogg support, by embedding an .ogv video. Here is the references I used:
[code].....
Here was the code I put on my web page:
Code:
<video width="640" height="480" controls="controls">
<source src="http://path/to/uploaded/video/on/my/site.ogv" />
Your browser does not support the <code>video</code> element.
</video>
However, when I view it I get a video box, but it is grey and will not play a video. I keep playing with the various attributes but the result always seems to be the same. I also tried it on a Windows box with Firefox 3.5 (to make sure it didn't have something to do with my Linux config) but the results were the same.
I tried to log on to a remote computer using ssh, but I got an error:

I'm SSH'ed in to my Ubuntu 11.04 machine and trying to take a screen shot of a virtual display where I'm running (hopefully) Firefox. I get the error
Code:
selenium@selenium:~$ xwd -display localhost:15.0 -out ~/desk.xwd -root
xwd: unable to open display 'localhost:15.0'
I know that I have displayed the right display variable because in an earlier script that runs at system bootup I have
Code:
export DISPLAY=localhost:15.0
/usr/bin/Xvfb :15 -ac -screen 0 1024x768x16 &
My script is not diaplying output as it contains awk while iterating over the array. My script is as follows:

Using 2 different linux mints(6, and 8), with 2 different screen sizes. (17 inch and 10 inch) i have not been able to connect the vga laptops to a Hdmi slot in the tv. i have tried using different screen sizes for the laptop and also have tried to use different screen sizes on the tv. aside from that i don't know much else what to attempt, all of my drivers are active so i don't think that is the issue.
View 1 Replies View Relatedplymouth theme doesn't display in linux mint. i mean not even the default plymouth theme. instead of it a blue screen with white text is displayed which looks really ugly. even if i change the theme to some other, the same screen displays. any ideas on what could be the problem and possible remedies? note: when at last i give the update initramfs command it displays a warning the en_IN is not supported.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI admit that I am a noob - knows a little which makes it more dangerous than not knowing at all. in brief, I am unable to boot one of the OS out of 3 I have installed. Everything is fresh install on newly formatted partitions.
Here are the details:Two HDs - one is Sata and second is IDE. Win7 installed on IDE (sdb2) then Ubuntu 9.10 on Sata (sda2) and lastly Linux Mint on Sata (sda3). Everyone was on its place - that is - Ubuntu 9.10 on sda2, Linux-Mint on sda3 and Win7 on sdb2.
Future of the day was bright and promising until I upgraded online to 10.04. After that, I was only able to boot to Win7 (IDE drive - sdb2 - not sure if it changed at that point or not) but no nix OS on Sata sda2 & sda3. I downloaded 10.04 and installed from CD again on sda2. Well, now I am able to boot into Win7 and Ubuntu 10.04 but no Linux-Mint. Another interesting thing is that sda and sdb have interchanged/swapped. So now if I chcek it thru gparted or run boot script, Sata drive shows up as sdb and IDE is now sda. In another post, I read that grub2 does that and make IDE drive as the first drive and Sata drive as second. Well, I buy that but why I am unable to boot to second OS on the same Sata drive? Evidently, I am missing something and I take that it is mostly user error but please

I have configured an instance in AWS EC2. I am trying to set the display back so I can run x apps. I login using ssh -xy -i...

I have commented out nolisten tcp as suggested HERE I have modified /etc/gdm/custom.conf as suggested HERE Actually, the last suggested modifying /etc/gdm/gdm.conf, but that file didn't exist, so I added the line: DisallowTCP=false to /etc/gdm/custom.conf I rebooted, and still I get: xhost: unable to open display "XXX.XXX.X.XXX:0.0"

how to get the display to the TV so I can watch movies. I have a Compaq Presario V5000 laptop, AMD Sempron processor, and an ATI Radeon Xpress 200M card. I have been using this successfully on Windows XP, but would prefer to get my feet wet more with Ubuntu.

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy computer boots up but just as its about to load debian I lose video output. Where do I start with troubleshooting this?
Also there was an option to install debain as "graphical installation" or just "installation". I chose just "installation", whats the difference? I dont know if that has anything to do with why i cant get output.
I've been dual booting Lenny and Squeeze but after replacing Lenny with a fresh Squeeze using ext4, the video display has been strange. The effect is similar to running a live CD, where a click does nothing for a few seconds while the CD winds up and gets to the application, but slower than that. Sometimes the display has patches of several windows all mixed up, zig zag patterns like a TV that is too far from a transmitter to receive a good signal and sometimes the mouse freezes in moving around. When I boot and don't start X, everything works perfectly, no delays, no messed up windows.
My video is ATI x1300 with Radeon driver. What is the best way to get the system to use only vesa, to see if that works, instead of ati or radeon? is possible to use grub.cfg or /etc/defaults/grub or /etc/grub.d/ ? I couldn't find any reports of problems with Xorg used by Squeeze, so it seems to be the ATi driver or the radeon driver.
I was wondering how to enable an S-Video display connection to my TV. I'm on a Compaq Presario C700 using F13. I connected it to my laptop and TV, and it displayed the laptop screen through startup, but went away when the login screen appeared, and didn't display after I logged in.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI just installed 10.04 Lucid Lynx and have a serious graphics problem. I've attached a picture to show the problem.
Some Background:
Pentium 4 3.06GHz
1.5GB RAM
ATI Radeon 9600
I installed via liveUSB but had to choose the "nomodeset" option by pressing F6. Otherwise after the Ubuntu boot screen the graphics went like that in the attached image. The installation went fine (took less than 15 minutes!) but after the reboot the graphics problem returned. I can't see anything and the system is useless this way. I can't post up any logs (I'm typing this from the liveUSB).
kubuntu 10.04.
1. in the user I used for system installation, my monitor works fine
2. in the user I created later - same rights - monitor is set for 60Hz. This is the only option in System Settings/Display
3. there's only xorg.conf.failsafe in /etc/X11, which seems to what the second user is using
Where is the display/video card set up in Kubuntu 10.04? Why are different users use different settings? Can I copy from one to the other?
I've just watched a video (on the Australian ABC web site: [URL] with the video at [URL] from inside Firefox (3.0.15), and now my Linux (8.0.4) display is mangled.The entire display is moved left and up about 2 inches on a (I think) 15 inch screen. In the vertical direction it is "wrapped" so I can still see my toolbar. It is not wrapped in the horizontal direction, so there is a black bar down the right hand side of my screen. It is as if the wrong screen size is saved.
This isn't just in my desktop environment - it goes wrong as soon as I boot into Ubuntu Linux. But my monitor itself is OK - the display is correct in GRUB and Windows.Since the problem does not go away on reboot (or power down), I assume some file has been corrupted. Where would that file be and how would I fix it?
I am running a dual boot system. I have XP on one HD and Ubuntu 10.04 on the other. No problems. I boot back and forth all the time. Then came along Natty. Now I tried to boot over, and I get "Cannot display this video mode". I have it set up that when I restart, if im away from the computer, Ubuntu starts by default. So it eventually starts in ubuntu. But the screen where I used to be able to choose which operating system to boot into is now replaced with "Cannot display this video mode".
I am not wireless, and nothing has changed as far as hard wear. The monitor is some old Dell that worked perfectly fine with 10.04. I tried changing my resolution and settings to every different one, and restart, and still no dice.
To sum it up, after my update to Natty, when I reboot, my OS selection screen is no longer visible. Its now replaced by "Cannot display this video mode".
So now it seems, what ever setting this screen is running on, XP dont like it..... because of Natty?
I gotta get some work done in XP, so right now im screwed. My CRT is currently sitting outside in the rain. Or I would try it.
After upgrade my Ubuntu to 11.04 i have a weird problem about videos and i took a capture from my display(HERE) I'm getting the same thing with all of the players and video file types. Ubuntu 11.04 64bit ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650
