Software :: Java1.6.0_15 Symlink To Libnpjp2 - Sort Of Works (not) On Opensuse11 And Firefox3.6
Apr 6, 2010I've got a strange problem where my java is installed into firefox (v3.6.3) and firefox confirms this in about:plugins but when I go to a page that has a java applet, I get a blank page. oh I'm on openSuSe 11.x 32-bit (I know a lot of people have had trouble with this on 64-bit version).
previously I was getting errors about the plugin not being installed. so I installed java v1.6.0_15 using yast and then i created a symlink to libnpjp2.so in the firefox plugins dir: lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 58 Apr 6 12:27 libnpjp2.so -> /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-sun-1.6.0/jre/lib/i386/libnpjp2.so*

I can try a combination of downgrading versions of firefox and java but would rather only do that as a last resort.
Software :: OpenSUSE11.4 - Wire/wireless Icon In Tray?
Apr 10, 2011I know that the wireless devices are working properly as other OSs on this HD work in various forms both .deb and .rpm. In setting up openSUSE11.4, no matter which wireless device in WPA is installed, the icon will go to the wired icon, not the wireless. You can see it trying to go to a wireless icon, but then it reverts to the wired one. I'm beginning to think that this a OS problem in itself and not an install problem.

- The wiki is /var/www/htdocs/dokuwiki

Apr 15, 2010I planned to use Squid on my W2k3 network, because I'm tired of ISA2k6... it's a **** factory in itself. So, I just installed a VM with OpenSuse 11.2 and joined it to my AD W2k3 domain. After correcting the clock problems, everything is running fine except a strange feature that I was not able to solve. After a reboot, I'm not able to login with a domain account. I enter the username/password, choose the domain then it the input fields become grey for 1-2 seconds then the password field is reset and nothing happens. The most strange part comes when you logon with the local root account. You login as root, then logoff and login with any domain account : works like a charm... Kerberos is working fine, systemclock's correct...

Apr 6, 2010I had to re-install openSUSE11.2 but I kept having either black screen or mouse cursor freeze. Using sax2 to change video driver didn't work whether "ati", "radeon" or "vesa" was selected. I finally came across a solution: 1. Log in at run level 3 with acpi=off, no apic,F3=vesa, then become root 2. YAST -> Miscellaneous -> Live Installer, etc. 3. Reboot 4. If black screen, force a reboot and repeat step1 5. Autoconfig restart? Yes 6. When installation is finished, reboot 7. Boot option: 3 acpi=off noapic F3(vesa) 8. Login as normal user then become root 9. #YAST > Online Update 10> #YAST > Edit Bootloader
11. Edit Grub menu: Add the following to the end of the kernel line (under heading: kernel options...): vga=792 acpi=off noapic. Note that vga=792 is from a LILO config file example, which has the side note:"vga=792 #you need to do this so it boots up in a sane state". I came across this from "Framebuffer HOWTO: Using framebuffer devices on Intel platforms" Your Grub menu may also show vga=0x317 but this is because you might have selected 1024x768 screen resolution;it has nothing to do with vga=792. Vga=792 is what essentially solves the black screen problem.

Jun 4, 2011I've just installed Squeeze on my laptop (Toshiba Satellite C660D - adapter is a Realtek 8188CE) and was following the instructions on debian.org to set up WiFi. I've changed the source list, done the firmware update and the modprobe, but when I get to step 5 where it says to verify that I have a wireless interface, the output from iwconfig just lists lo, eth0 and pan0, all with "no wireless extensions". Does anyone have any ideas what I should do now?

Apr 29, 2011I installed Natty on a second partition yesterday to try it out, but i can't get wireless to work. Hardwire connection works fine, so does connecting wirelessly to my router. However, i cannot browse the internet or update. After rebooting a couple of times i was surprised to see internet working, but only for about half an hour. Then it stopped working again. My card is a Intel PRO/Wireless 4965AGN and i'm using the 64 bit version of 11.04.
So my question is if anyone has had the same kind of problem or maybe knows a fix?
I'm really disappointed cause Ubuntu worked out of the box for me since Hardy.

Aug 16, 2010Since I upgraded to 10.04 (from 9.10) I've been running into trouble with my wireless headset. Ever since the upgrade, I've had issues with the audio being very choppy (it sounds kind of like static) through the headset while listening to anything from an mp3 to a ..... video.
The two things I've noticed about it are that it is ONLY when using the headset, and the audio is fine running through the built in speakers. The other thing is that it only seems to happen when there is something going on on screen (for example, with a ..... video, scrolling up and down a page makes it much worse, as does having the video embedded in another page, while minimizing the page eliminates problem; or while listening to music, while the visualizer is running, it has problems, but when I get rid of it, it's fine.)
I have a somewhat old Dell Inspiron 6400 with 2 GB ram and 2 Intel core 2 T7400s, each at 2.16 GHz if that helps. I'm not sure how to check what sound card I have (still fairly new to linux).
Debian Configuration :: Apache Working But No Outside Access / Sort It?
May 23, 2011Having some memory loss i think (in my head not my pc). I have set up apache before , then changed to dsl in the last week and cant seem to get this new modem/router to work. i can get the loopback address to work, as well as the network ip. can NOT get my other machines to hit the server on the network .
also no connection from outside the network from port 80. my modem is a motorola (att) ,apache2 on my toshiba laptop, amd x2, 3gigs ram.

Mar 5, 2010I am using Ktorrent 3.3.4 (compiled - using KDE 4.3.2) on Ubuntu version 9.10 (Ubuntu 2.6.31-19-generic)
I have tested the shutdown plugin to shutdown when all torrents stop downloading and also tested by selecting when events below happen and manually selecting the torrents.
I have the shutdown button selected.
However on both occasions my PC does not shutdown after the downloads have completed.
What am I doing wrong? Or is it because I am on Ubuntu and using the Gnome desktop and this only works for KDE?

Jul 21, 2010I am using the Fedora 13 Live USB on my Gateway MT6451 laptop. All the major things you want to work on a laptop with linux actually work! Even my Broadcom wireless card! But even though I can see wireless networks and connect to ones that are open with no problem, I can't actually connect to my Hidden WPA2 network. I put all the information in and it connects, shows a good signal, but doesn't acquire the correct IP. I have a 192.168.X.X address range on my network, but it shows a 10.X.X.X ip and no Gateway address.
If I can get this one thing working I will definitely be installing Fedora.
