View 1 Replies View RelatedI used to have Opensuse 11.0 and Vuze 4.0.2 and both were working great. Recently I upgraded to OpenSuse 11.3 and installed Vuze 4.5.10. I did not change any configuration in the ADSL router but now I could not get the smiley icon to go green. I followed all the steps given here: A Quick Bittorrent Guide (with screenshots). It doesn't work. so I modified FW_ROUTE and FW_MASQUERADE to yes in /etc/sysconfig/SuSefirewall2. That also does not work. What did I miss here? My ADSL router is DSL-2640T.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI had to re-install openSUSE11.2 but I kept having either black screen or mouse cursor freeze. Using sax2 to change video driver didn't work whether "ati", "radeon" or "vesa" was selected. I finally came across a solution: 1. Log in at run level 3 with acpi=off, no apic,F3=vesa, then become root 2. YAST -> Miscellaneous -> Live Installer, etc. 3. Reboot 4. If black screen, force a reboot and repeat step1 5. Autoconfig restart? Yes 6. When installation is finished, reboot 7. Boot option: 3 acpi=off noapic F3(vesa) 8. Login as normal user then become root 9. #YAST > Online Update 10> #YAST > Edit Bootloader
11. Edit Grub menu: Add the following to the end of the kernel line (under heading: kernel options...): vga=792 acpi=off noapic. Note that vga=792 is from a LILO config file example, which has the side note:"vga=792 #you need to do this so it boots up in a sane state". I came across this from "Framebuffer HOWTO: Using framebuffer devices on Intel platforms" Your Grub menu may also show vga=0x317 but this is because you might have selected 1024x768 screen resolution;it has nothing to do with vga=792. Vga=792 is what essentially solves the black screen problem.
Vuze downloaded an update, and now everytime I use it keeps telling me to re start for the update to have an effect. When I re start, same thing happens again tells me it needs to restart. I'm using Gnome and openSUSE 11.3. I checked older posts for a solution it seems this has happened before. Do I just wait for a new version to come out of the repos?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI upgraded from 11.2 gnome to 11.4 gnome. I have not found a way to install Vuze. It does not show up in Software Management. I have read that Packman repository is needed, which I have. I have been searching for some instructions, but only find postings about Vuze that has already been installed.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've pretty much installed Ubuntu Linux9.10, 10.04 and Debian 5 on external hard drives before, however, I just want to avoid certain pitfalls that may occur with openSUSE11.3. Has anyone successfully done this before? And, is it similar like Debian and Ubuntu installs in that you have to install the OS using an advanced option and specifying /dev/sdb, etc? Right now, I have Ubuntu installed on an external harddrive along with Debian as well and wanted to do the same for openSUSE11.3 and was wondering if all Unix derivatives share similar installation processes. I would just like to keep things as I have it currently where the system does not boot with Grub, and instead I have to go to the bios and specify which physical drive to boot from in order to change the boot order.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying for the last many days to setup my opensuse 10.3 as Samba PDC Server according to the URL mentioned below, but in vain:How to setup SUSE 10.3 as Samba PDC - openSUSE When ever I try to join a Windows XP machine to the domain setup on Opensuse, I get the error:'The following error occured while attempting to join the domain. The network path was not found'. What could be the reason for this error despite of the fact the I am able to ping the FQDN of the PDC from the XP machine, but the XP machine simply denies to join the domain because of the above mentioned error.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently installed OpenSUSE 11.2 and everything works fine except wi-fi card, of course. The problem is that after installation the system recognized the card (is was listed in network devices in Yast) but I was unable to enable it through network-manager applet. Though the device could make scanning through terminal (found article in docs but didn't fully understand wpa_gui). Then i was stupid enough to delete the device from Yast list to try to reinstall it. So the problem is that i simply can't do this cause i see no way to re-detect. That is the goal is to at least turn back to post-install system state and try to enable wifi card again.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI installed openSUSE on one of my work system. The network port wasn't working when I was installing, but works fine now (checked in Windows). But for some reason, I am not able to configure the network. I used both Dynamic and Static IPs (both work fine in Windows) but still no go. I am using Yast Control Center for this purpose. I can't even ping the default gateway when I am using custom settings. When I use dynamic settings, it says Unreachable Network.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm going to come right out and say I am a complete novice with Linux/SUSE. The equipment I'm having a problem with is a little web-server that was purchased by my employer that has, quite suddenly, stopped functioning. I was changing the IP address within YaST, at which point the device offered to update itself, which I saw no harm in. Post-update, however, I was unable to so much as ping the device.
I tried "ifconfig eth0": "Error fetching interface information: Device not found." I went into network settings via YaST and found that there are two cards now listed as: RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller Both IP addresses are "Not configured". The information pane, for both cards, cites:
RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controllerBusID : 0000:02:00.0 Unable to configure the network card because the kernel device (eth0, wlan0) is not present. This is mostly caused by missing firmware (for wlan devices). See dmesg output for details. The only difference in either of the cards is the BusID (0000:02:00.0 and 0000:03.00.0)
I can neither edit nor delete either of these cards. As I mentioned, I am a total Linux novice, and am at a total loss for what to do next, or even how to find critical information about the system itself. I know enough to check dmesg, but not enough to have any clue what to look for in the output.
I am running OpenSuse 11.2 on my desktop here in the office and when I download anything, other users are complaining over very slow internet speeds. My download speed seems to be the same as other users using Windows, but downloading from a windows machine does not cripple the network. So is there something in my network setup that can be tweaked so that I do not cripple the network when downloading ?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am unable to do my network setup. I have a lan connection. I used to easily setup it in windows xp in network connections > internet protocol > properties. But I do not understand anything in linux. I have installed latest version of open suse 11.1 and KDE environment. Secondly I am unable to play mp3 files on it and I do not hear any sound at startup too. I *945* motherboard with a inbuilt realtek lancard and it is working fine on windows.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI planned to use Squid on my W2k3 network, because I'm tired of ISA2k6... it's a **** factory in itself. So, I just installed a VM with OpenSuse 11.2 and joined it to my AD W2k3 domain. After correcting the clock problems, everything is running fine except a strange feature that I was not able to solve. After a reboot, I'm not able to login with a domain account. I enter the username/password, choose the domain then it the input fields become grey for 1-2 seconds then the password field is reset and nothing happens. The most strange part comes when you logon with the local root account. You login as root, then logoff and login with any domain account : works like a charm... Kerberos is working fine, systemclock's correct...

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to enable a VNC connection from a Windows machine to remotely connect into my openSUSE machine (11.2, KDE, 64-bit), but I cannot get any desktop environment to load up at all. It just comes up with a blank screen and a black cross for a cursor. What I want is to be able to see exactly what I would normally see if I were sitting in front of it, rather than go into a 'virtual desktop' as appears to be the case. Ideally I would want to go into the KDE desktop environment in this instance, and it would also be nice if dual monitors could enabled for each remote session. How do I go about enabling my chosen environment?
If it makes any difference at all (although I doubt it does), I'm also using PuTTY in Windows in order to make an SSH tunnel to allow secure access, and I'm quite sure I've enabled all the necessary services for all of the above under the YaST Firewall (by the way, on a lesser note, do I need PuTTY to be installed at both ends for the SSH tunnel to work properly?). If you need a screenshot or output from terminal of sorts this can be arranged.
I was trying to create boot image on my pc with opensuse to boot into it from my laptop.
I downloaded 1-click packages of kiwi, ltsp etc. First, I checked if I had all needed packages - kiwi-ltsp-setup -p. I installed everything manually, after that this check gives me no errors. Then I ran kiwi-ltsp-setup -c. Everything seems to be OK, but when I try to boot from laptop - I see boot menu, select to boot kiwi-ltsp and then get message "failed to load network module!".
I gave up and tried to make fat client-my laptop has better proccssor than server anyway.I downloaded opensuse 11.1 i586 dvd, mounted into /mnt/11.1 typed in console kiwi-ltsp-setup -fat. It completes without any errors and I get file example.img ~185mb en /srv/kla. After that I try kiwi-ltsp-setup -c and I get foolowing error - Starting kiwi-ltsp with AoE (kla) failed.I have changed kiwi-ltsp config file, but still no success.
I'm able to connect to my company's VPN network using GNOME NetworkManager but when I try to login to the remote system using SSH it is not able to resolve the DNS name, It works fine if I use IP instead of the FQDN.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using OpenSUSE 11.3 64-bit on a Lenovo G560. I'm able to establish both wired and unwired connections without problems. Now I'm in a situation where I'd like to share my laptop's internet connection with other devices. My thought was to establish an ad-hoc network that another computer could connect to wirelessly in order to get into the Internet, because I've only got one ethernet jack.
First thought was to use Network Manager, since that manages all my connections. A left click on the Network Manager icon brings up a menu in which "Wireless 802.11, Create network connection..." is an option. If I click on that I see a list of all the networks available in the area, as well as all the networks I've set up in the past. Below that are two options: "New Ad-Hoc Network" and "Connect To Other Network With Wireless 802.11..."
"New Ad-Hoc Network" seems like the right option, but when I double click on it the window closes and nothing happens. No error message, nothing. Network Manager continues to run and my connection is unchanged. If I just left click on it and then click "Connect" at the bottom of the window, the same thing happens.
When I change something in network setings using yast (for example hostname) it failes to restart the network. I have to start knetworkmanager manually from the terminal. Does anyone get the same type of behaviour ? I'm attaching the relevant yast log.I'm using 11.3 KDE 4.5.4 2.6.34.7-0.5-desktop kernel.

I installed 11.2 on an older HP Laptop which was running XP without any issues. Durring the install, the update processe failed (presumably unble to connect to respository). I am usind a wired connection and the nic is connecting to my router and is recieving an address via DHCP. I am also able to ping the workstion from the router's Web interface. However I am unbale to connect to the internet.I have turned off the Suse firewall via Yast and checked the settings against another computer running ver 11.1 .Everything appears to be correct but no joy.

View 1 Replies View Relatedbeen searching google and forums for about 5 hours now, and can't figure this one out, I have a server running opensuse 11.2 sharing various NFS directories, I have one laptop that is running 11.2 and I have no problem getting my NFS shares from the server. On my other laptop that is running 11.3, I had the shares working at one point, but changed things around and added a new HD to the server, now I can NOT get this thing to work, I have tried everything I could find to read on it. I've a little trouble: I reinstalled on my notebook OpenSUSE 11.3 yesterday and I'm unable to change the hostname. I modified it, but when I type on terminal
Code:
uname -a
it doesn't give the right answer but returns
Code:
host
I don't know where I wrong because I did this action many times with Opensuse 11.1 and 11.3 without any problem.
When I try to update with YaST2 or zypper it complains about being unable to connect to the repo's
I'm getting this error with all repo's except for one i've added manually (google chrome)
Am I doing something dumb or are the actually down?
