I'm installing LoL using Wine and I can't find where setup has put the files. When I type "wine lol.launcher" it says "wine: cannot find L"c:\windows\system32\lol.launcher". For that matter I can't find where the setup program has installed any of the LoL components

I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 and previously had a separate partition with another distro on it. I decided to delete the other distro's home and swap partitions and install XP in place of it. I've been following these instructions: [URL] and [URL] I have gotten to the point where I am booting to the XP CD and want to install it, but I get the message, "Setup did not find any hard disks installed on your computer" when I should be getting to the screen that asks me to select a partition to install XP on. This is what my HDD looks like in GParted:
I want to install XP in the unallocated partition, but I have a feeling I screwed up somewhere along the way and probably don't fully understand the whole thing. Even if I try to format the unallocated partition to NTFS I can't make it a primary partition (I assume because it's within sda2). The very last thing I want to do is delete my Ubuntu partition and start from scratch, but if that's my last option let me know.
getting this message when trying to install XP."Setup did not find any HD installed in your computer." I have Ubuntu installed on another partition so it makes no sense that XP doesn't recognize my HD.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am slowly learning Linux by bringing up a server. Using tasksel, I installed the LAMP-server, which went fine. Now, however, I have mucked about with various config files and made the setup unusable. I'd like to do uninstall all of the LAMP packages and do a clean (and more thoughtful) install. Here's the problem: tasksel returns an "aptitude failed (100)" error. I have search various forums and all of the help related to this error (which I can't actually find *explained* anywhere) is related to installing packages. I tried them anyway, without success. man pages and the stack of manuals I have don't seem to be of much help either.
- describe what the error message means?
- a way to remove the packages or the config files by hand?

I am trying to compile an android project, which requires GCC-4.3(mandatory, GCC-4.4 doesn't work). So I downgraded the gcc-4.4 on my ubuntu 10.04 to gcc-4.3.
But then the compiling process doesn't work. It says:
cc: command not found
make: *** [...] error 127
It's weird that the shell can't find 'cc' while I do have gcc-4.3 installed.
I've tried type the following command:
export CC="/usr/bin/gcc-4.3"
but I don't know what's it for.
I setup a HTPC about a month ago, and just expanded my storage by adding two 750GB drives in addition to my OS drive. I am using Ubuntu 9.10 as my OS and need help setting up a raid 1 on the two 750GB drives.
gparted shows the two drives as /dev/sdb and /dev/sdc

I would like to do something like: mysearch query ("*php") (.) It would be great if the command could accept three arguments, in reverse order:
query string, file name expression, directory If the second two arguments were omitted they would default to not being included, and the current directory. Finally, the icing on the cake would be that if additional variables were included (4th, 5th, 6th...) they would be injected as additional arguments for the find command (like I could say -type d) at the end. Attempted code I tried the example below, but I'm still having trouble setting default values. What am I doing wrong?

Is there a way to find out with what options a library was configured with when it was installed? I am trying to install a library on my system that depends on gasnet and it requires me to configure it with the very same options that gasnet was configured with. Gasnet was not originally installed by me, so I cannot tell. I can see bin/, include/, lib/ and share/ directories in the gasnet folder and no other information in it. To be specific, I need to use the same CFLAGS that were used during installation of gasnet. For example, if it was installed using '-g -O2', I have to make sure I use the same CFLAGS here.

I loaded a distro (which does not seem relevant) onto my laptop and used it for a while. Applications did whatever they do creating and saving files. I know that I have images and documents and videos and music and such on the laptop among other non-distro data files. Is there a simple (straightforward) way to identify which files on disk are NOT part of the installed distro? I know how to use find. I know that find lets me locate files based on some date-time-stamp. I know, too, that I can use any selected file as a benchmark date-time instead of some specific command line string.

For every program I've installed, I can see an icon in the applications menu. But, I'd like to be able to find the actual icon so I can use it on panels and such in gnome.

I use it for school (homework and studying), research on the net (general browsing and specific research on Linux stuff since I hope to one day open my own Linux computer store), and for listening to music and watching videos, things like that. I am not a power user, adn I don't plan to be one any time soon. But I am learning how to work in GNU/Linux, since I want to make a living that way.
Currently, though, I just need a good computer made out of new components, that will work correctly. So What kinds of components to get. Since I don't have a power consumption model, I cannot come up with a power optimization algorithm. I am currently working on Linux. Is there any way to measure/model the power consumption of individual system component?
I have already checked powertop. It doesn't tells the power (watts) consumed by a component (e.g., microprocessor). It just gives information about the power state the processor is in (However there is no way to change the power state by the user) and the processors that cause processor to wakeup.

I'm trying to use the set application to configure Apache. I'm getting a "setup: command not found" error when I type in "setup" at the command line.
However when I try to install setup with yum, it tells me that setup is already installed.

But when I put in my username and password it doesn't take it. there is no other password. How do I set up CUPS? Can I used hplip instead?
