I am not getting any sound from my computer speakers, I have two hard drives installed one with Windows 7 and the other Linux running Ubuntu 10.10. The speakers are working with Windows 7 but not with Ubuntu I have a Realtek High Definition Sound Card ALC260 is there a place that I can get this from and how do I install it. Please keep it simply as I am easily confused with Linus still.
View 1 RepliesThis problem presented itself upon upgrading to ubuntu 9.10. Any time something affects the sound system the buzz goes away. If a song plays, no buzz. If I simply adjust or mute the volume, no buzz. But after 10 seconds of no sound related activity, the buzz returns. This is a very loud and aggravating buzz, most likely made worse by the fact that I run my sound through an amplifier.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have Ubuntu 11.04 installed on my Toshiba Satellite C655 laptop. When I plug my headphones, they sometimes work, they sometimes don't, but that's not the main problem. When they do work, sound also plays out of the speakers. The only solutions I was able to find were for earlier versions, which don't work for 11.04.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI currently have pclinuxos 2007 (updated to kde4). I put on webinars, and like to record them using recordmydesktop. All is working fine by putting a splitter in my speaker out, and feeding it back into my line in. This only works when I have analog loopback not muted.My problem is that pclinuxos is now putting out there 2010 version, and there is no way I can see to un-mute the analog loopback. It does not show up as any options onkmix.... I am going to attach a couple pictures one with my old kmix, and one with the new 2010 version.My question is, how can I get back that analog loopback, or is there another way to get the sound to record from both my speaker and my mic?

I've searched all over the forums and i found one thing where you get the model and codecs and write them to a file, however, I can't seem to find what my "model" is because none of the postings have anything about Lenovo laptops. With that info, how do I get the model, and how do I get my speakers to stop playing when headphones are plugged in. Also, I don't have any software installed like pulse audio either, so it's not that.
Both the speakers and the headphones keep playing the sound with headphone plugged in.

My problem is that I can not hear any sound from my laptop's internal speakers (that works f9 in windows--so no h/w probs!) but when I connect external headphones, everything is heard.I have tried several commands from various internet sources since past one week. I don't understand many of the commands that I have run, but that has somehow helped me to run media files and hear sound on HEADPHONES.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI don't know what I did but I lost all audio. I'm running F15 with gnome 3. By opening system settings and then sound I don't find anything muted. Under hardware I have 3 devices, the first is RS880 Audio Device (Radeon HD 4200) this one has no sound at all when I click test speakers. Then I have quickcam comm STX and then I have Internal Audio which works by clicking on test speakers.. I have no clue of where to start to fix this but reinstall everything again.

The default player is rythymbox and I also have VLC media player installed. Neither will produce any sound. When I press the "test speakers" button on the sound preferences hardware tab, there is no sound.
Installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my HP laptop. I have installed Ubuntu on 2 of my computers with no problems whatsoever, but this laptop is just a problem. I already had to install the driver for my wireless card, and now I noticed there are no sounds coming from the speakers, but if I plug headphones into the headphone jack, there is sound.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running 32-bit Ubuntu 10.04 on an Acer Aspire 3050 laptop with a Realtek HD sound card. When I plug headphones in, the sound comes out of the headphones AND the built-in speakers, instead of the speakers muting as they should.
This happens on both the live CD and the installed OS which i'm running. I've tried every fix I can find on the Internet, including a setting changed in the text-mode ALSA Mixer, installing a package from synaptic, and other fixes for older versions of Ubuntu that can't be done on 10.04.
Before I upgraded to 10.10, I would hear sound on both my PC speakers and on my TV. The speakers are connected via the standard speaker out, the TV was connected via the line-out, through a stereo to RCA adapter. Video is supplied to the TV via HDMI. Now that I've upgraded to Maverick, however, I no longer get sound on the TV. This isn't the usual "sound stopped working completely on upgrade" issue, because I get flawless sound via the PC speakers just as before. I've tried most of the debugging steps recommended in other threads about audio, with no improvement.
The weird thing about all this is, when I plug other speakers or headphones into the same port, I hear audio. So I'm starting to suspect that the problem has to do with the HDMI audio out capability on my video card (an nvidia GT 240), which might have suddenly come alive (if not fully functional) with Maverick's new version of ALSA. I don't know what signal(s) my TV thinks it's getting and have no way of troubleshooting things on that side, but it seems possible that the HDMI it's getting video through is also sending a null/silent audio stream, and that stomps the analog audio signal it's getting from my sound card.
I see two output devices in Sound Preferences, "Internal Audio" and "High Definition Audio Controller". "Internal Audio", ie my onboard sound, is what's producing audio via the speakers. HDMI has never produced any audio, and I don't really need it to if I can just make it work the way it did before. I've tried completely disabling that device, even adding the "snd_hda_codec_nvhdmi" module to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist - no change.
The solution for this could be one of two things: one, I could try to get the HDMI audio out working and let that be what my TV receives, two I try to make the audio setup work as before, with analog audio going to both speakers and TV. Thoughts? I'm leaning towards the latter, ie not bothering with the HDMI audio, as having another audio source would probably mean messing with PulseAudio which has otherwise worked 100% fine for me up until now. If need be I can supply more details on hardware, CLI output etc.

I have an onboard soudcard (Realtek ALC 883).
My headset is doing a fine job, using the standard audio connections, but I'd like to be able to use speakers as well. Someone's given me a very basic "soundball" ‒ only visible identification, the word 'goobay' ‒ that's been doing well on another O/S. When I plug it in, it's on speaking terms with the USB port as far as drawing power goes: but doesn't play anything.
The options from Sound preferences don't include anything as obvious as "use USB port/ use audio connectors". Is there an easy answer?
I did a fresh install last night everything is fine but my sound will not play through speakers, but will play through headphones. My video and sound come out of hdmi video card.

After updating my kernel my sound stopped working. I followed the sound problems guide in the sticky thread at the top of this forum and I've now got it to the point where I get sound through the headphones but not through the laptop speakers. Here is my sound info (output from alsa-info.sh thingy). I've added various lines to the end of my alsa-base.conf but no luck.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm currently running 32-bit Ubuntu 10.04 on a Pentium 4. I'm currently using the LXDE desktop environment but the problem is the same in GNOME. I have new Altec-Lansing BX1220 speakers. They didn't come with a driver disk and a Google search didn't return any drivers, so they should be plug-and-play. When I plug them in, the light turns on, and with the volume high enough it returns feedback. However, they don't actually play what the computer is playing. I went into alsamixer and made sure all the volumes were turned up; it didn't help. It was plugged into my microphone jack.

Problem 1: Sound works perfectly on the laptop speakers, but when I plug in my headphones, I can't hear anything. The laptop speakers go silent, but there is no sound in the headphones. Very annoying.
Problem 2: I have wireless Internet connection, but the wired network connection doesn't seem to work. There is no activity when I connect the computer to the router.
Problem 3: The button for ejecting the CD-tray isn't the regular type I'm used to with laptops I've used before. On this laptop there is a button just above the numpad keyboard area, that's supposed to eject the cd-tray. This doesn't work, but I can eject it using a command in a terminal.
I am running Ubuntu 10.10 which is great but since yesterday i have not been able to get a sound out of the speakers?

View 1 Replies View RelatedJust installed Ubuntu 10.10 with Wubi (took forever to figure out how to get the wubi.exe to recognize the 10.10 iso) and I don't have sound coming from my speakers. Audio works fine with headphones, but output from speakers is non-existent.
I get sound when I boot into Windows 7, so I doubt it had something to be with the actual speakers. I'm really new to Ubuntu (but loving it!) so troubleshooting is a little difficult for me, especially with terminal commands.
