I am using Qmail mailing system. Now I want to block the outlook users to send mail(SMTP). I think it can be done through qmail smtp relay option. Is it the right way to block SMTP for outlook users??
I have a server with a static IP that I use as a sendmail server. The problem is that port 25 is exposed. As a result, anybody can login to the SMTP server and send mail from my domain as a user that does not exist as well as email from other non-existant domains. I'm sure there are sendmail options that I can enable to do some checks, like if the user exists on that server or if the domain is the same on the server, etc. I was wondering if you guys can mention a few that I can add to my sendmail.mc file?
I have thought about auth login, the problem is if auth login is on my public port then I won't be able to receive email from gmail because it would be unauthenticated. Also, I only have 1 mail server. I know the ideal solution is to have 2 mail servers. One for outgoing mail/internal mail server where you can enable auth login and the other for incoming mail which just acts as the relay to the internal mail server. That way spammers can't login to send mail out. That's another question I had, how do I configure sendmail to only send email out/in?
Anyhow, so I have to make do with 1 mail server for now. So I decided to add a few rules on iptables. I grabbed the IP range that gmail uses when I receive mail from then and added it to my iptables with the following command.
I want to restrict to send mail for particular allowed users of UNIX user. How can I achieve that? Which file I need to configure to allow users to send mail?
i have install and configure the qmail server in centos 5.4 and its working fine. i have created the domain (ex - abc.com)in qmail server and also create the user and its working fine. but i am not able to send the mail which user not found in qmail(abc.com) server, which are created on the web (at isp side or pop user)
I am a first timer in setting up a mail server. As I heard that Postfix is a very simple mail server to configure I decided to use it on the same server where we have our squid. It seems that it is really simple enough because immediately after configuring,I can send and receive internal e-mails and send external emails. As I replied to the external emails that I received myself I found out that all of them just landed on the mail queue and this is where my problem starts. I cannot make Postfix deliver the messages to my outlook mailbox. By the way, I am sending the emails the through outlook also.
I have got a nagios server running on my network, The configuration seems to be okay but each time there is a service alert notification, and an e-mail is sent to the contact group, Nagios continuously sends e-mail over and over again. Do anyone know of a way to set Nagios directives to only send one e-mail per alert without it flooding mail boxes.
I had configured sendmail on linux 5.2, Iam using public ip and my domain is registered[linuxforfreshers.info]. I am facing a issue that when I mail with the user sumit@linuxforfreshers.info then I am able to do it. But if somebody tries to send mail to the same user then it bounce backs. I had made the entry of domain in /etc/mail/local-host-name and also I put ok in /etc/mail/access.The mails are working properly with in LAN. But not able to work on WAN only I can send mail but not able to recieve mail. What else I need to do.
I have configured fetchmail, sendmail/postfix and mutt to act as a relay to receive mail. I can receive mail fine but I cannot send mail. Its working fine on my one box but on the one acting as a nat I am having issues. This is my mail log from the nat box.
the mail server being used in my office is qmail. now i have received some complains from people that they are getting time outs while sending or receiving mails in their email clients like microsoft outlook.
I use Windows XP with Outlook 2003 (soon to be Outlook 2010) on my work laptop, and also the same on my home PC. I copy the .PST file containing my home emails between the two so I still have access to my home emails on my work laptop when I'm away on business. So, why am I mentioning this on a non-Windows forum?
Well, I'm migrating my home PC to Ubuntu, but I still want to be able to move the mail PST file to & from the work laptop, but I don't know of any Ubuntu mail clients that will work directly on the PST file. Those that I have looked at will import from the PST file but maintain emails in their own file format, which means I can't read the new ones again using Outlook if I have updated the mail folders with the mail client on Ubuntu.
So, does anyone know of and can recommend any mail clients that work with PST files directly? The analogy is like using Open office to read & write MS Word .doc & Excel .xls files directly without any importing or exporting. I should also mention that I've tried unsuccessfully to install Outlook using Wine, but it's not happening, same problems as described in the Wine appdb test results.
I have enforced to use the Linux /etc/passwd file to authenticate myself from Outlook, Postfix will accept mail from any IPs. However, I'm not able to send mails from my Outlook via my mail server to someone else on the Internet. Am seeing the following in Postfix's log.
Code: Mar 11 21:07:39 production postfix/smtpd[16366]: connect from pcdxxxxx.netvigator.com[203.218.211.256] Mar 11 21:07:39 production postfix/smtpd[16366]: NOQUEUE: reject: RCPT from pcdxxxxx.netvigator.com[203.218.211.256]: 554 5.7.1 <someone@hotmail.com>: Relay access denied; from=<mate@mydomain.com> to=<someone@hotmail.com> proto=ESMTP helo=<Windows> Mar 11 21:07:42 production postfix/smtpd[16366]: disconnect from pcdxxxxx.netvigator.com[203.218.211.256] Here are my Postfix settings.
I use Thunderbird. I find that without using a ton of plugins I can not get Thunderbird to do remotely close to what Outlook does out of the box. Truth be told the Microsoft Office suite is a really good suite of products, especially Outlook and it's integration with Word. I hate how is Thunderbird you have to have a plugin to have a calendar, and then being able to schedule appointments with people is a whole other project.
Also if you Forward an email it just creates a new email with the forwarding email attached as a .eml file. When that happens you get into compatibility of the recipient being able to read it (mainly web mail users). It is little things like that I get worked up about, but I have found Thunderbird is the closest open source client to outlook to manage my mail. I personally would like to find a client more like Microsoft Outlook that I can run natively on Debian.
I am using Microsoft Oulook Web App. It is set to play sound whenever a new mail arrives but it doesn't play. I am using Ubuntu 9.04. what needs to be done to make it work?
I am very new to linux. I have to build a netwrok for small lab and office setup. Setup as below I have a PC running with Centos 5.4 and has 4 NIC cards. eth0, eth1, eth2 and eth3.

I am able to browse from all the hosts behind each nic cards. But mails from outlook not working (sending and receiving). I have configured gmail in the outlook with imap and smtp. I tried allowing the port 25 using follwoing command, iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 25 -j ACCEPT . let me know what should be done to access mails from outlook
I use gmail for all of my emailing needs but stumbled upon linux counter at counter.li.org. Now I registered on the site and downloaded the machine-update script from the site. So I ran it and it collected the required data. But when I run ./machine-update -m as they have told, I guess no mail gets sent as I have to configure the mail program. How do I configure it so that it sends mail from my gmail address using stmp?
so I'm really new to using Linux, and I searched the forums, but most people seem to have trouble sending mail, not receiving it. When I send mail from the CLI, it gets delivered fine (from travis@travishoward.net) But when I try to reply or mail to the server, I get this message back:
Code: ----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors ----- <travis@travishoward.net> (reason: 554 5.7.1 <travis@travishoward.net>: Relay access denied)
Am trying to configure the default sendmail program to send mail from command line but failed. Here are the steps I did while following [URL]
cd /etc/mail mkdir auth chmod 700 auth cd authCreate a file called client-info with the following: AuthInfo:smtp.spamarrest.com "U:<spamarrest.com's login>" "I:<spamarrest.com's login>" "P:<spamarrest.com's password>"makemap hash client-info < client-info
I use Evolution mail and use 2 PCs When I send mail it saves it to my current PC but not to the other PC so instead i want it to save the sent to the email server i'm using.
I have set up postfix and dovecot as per the Ubuntu anual and appear to have a functioning mail server.Using the sendmail command I can send mail and I receive mail in ~/Maildir. Using Thunderbird I can read any mails received but I can't send any mail from Thunderbird. I have tried with both STARTTLS and SSL/TLS and whilst I get the prompt for a password I keep getting the message my password for my server is wrong.I have ports 25, 465, 587 and 993. Is that all the right ports? When I ping my domain name it resolves to my router name whereas I believe it should resolve to my IP. Could there be a problem with my host file? I've had a play but to no avail. Here's the error in mail.log.
I have Microsoft Office 2003 installed through Wine. However, all applications work fine but the outlook mail setting is not working as the POP setting screen becomes blank. Same with datafile (pst) setting screen.
