Fedora X86/64bit :: Testing With Direct IO (Raw) Devices?
Dec 13, 2009
I'm using fedora 11. I'd like to do some tests with direct IO (raw) devices. I have now raw(1) command. Yum fails to find a package providing raw. There's a /dev/rawctl and raw appears in /proc/devices. Where is it? (rpm?)
i've put together a slackware box that acts as a "virtual web" to answer pings from devices that ping various pages (such as www.yahoo.com) to test their connectivity. this is for bench testing the devices to verify such complaints as "cannot connect to the internet" or "fails connectivity test". so far, so good, except for a few devices that seem to be also try to load a particular page wirh an embedded browser. this i need help with. currently, all that's needed to return a ping is to look at the DNS requests the device makes and add the requested web address (www.yahoo.com for instance) to the hosts file. what i need is a redirect to a particular html file based on the address requested (i.e. yahoopage.html for www.yahoo.com, lgepage.html for www.lge.com, etc) any deas on how to accomplish this?
./ before a command to excute it. Why can't I use direct command? What should I do so I don't have to type ./ before a command. I couldn't find any thread relating to this issue so I post it here. Could someone please explain this and tell me what to do.
I am using Fedora 13 and I have one program (wine) that I need to start grabbing for the updates-testing repo instead of the default repositories in order to get newer versions. I think I can figure out how to add that repository, but I need to know if there are any others I need to disable or any other changes I need to make to my system so that I don't confuse my set up with conflicting updates.
Also, is there anything special I need to do to be sure that only that one program is grabbed from the testing repo when I run regular updates?
Downloaded from here: [URL] then ,it is 32-bit and I need to know what all 32-bit libs are needed as dependency for skype to work. I am on Gnome Fedora and purposefully selected static version of skype to prevent installation of libqt4.
I just bought sony vaio laptop(EB16) couple of days before.I had window 7 OS. Two days before i downloaded Fedora-12-x86_64-DVD & installed in my PC.Everything is working fine except when i play any video or audio file such as .avi, .mp3 from any player such as vlc player, movie player ,xine etc , i don't get any sound.I tried to search this problem in internet but still i am not able to resolve this problem.
Im trying to set up my 3G modem to recive and send sms but I had no luck so far

Can anyone get the website below to work correctly with Firefox 3.5 and F11 64bit?[URL]...All I see is the background scrolling slowly and jerkily, none of the buttons at the bottom work. Reboot into Windows 7 and IE8: the same site is fast, smooth, the buttons work and the product details appear correctly in the centre of the screen.
I've tried disabling all adblock /pop up block options, ensured all javascript options are enabled and no change. Could this be a problem with the 64 bit flash player (installed from leigh's sticky thread) or a problem with OpenJDK?
Eventhough users know the root credentials how to restrict them from direct login as root user. They can login as non root user first and then as root userthe material or provide some url for learning the perl script.
Does a mailserver have to have direct access to WAN or can it be a LAN device with just one NIC ?
We have two WAN access points.
One is an adsl router joined to the switch and all seems fine for internet browsing.
The other is a wireless system with a linksys router joining by way of PPPoE and this appears to connect fine.
This PPPoE is direct to our ISP and where we need to downlod our mail to our pending mailserver.
When the linksys router is also joined to the switch all devices can use either the adsl or linksys to roam the net. 192.168.1.1 linksys & 192.168.1.10 is adsl.
When I join the linksys direct to the mailserver I will then need two NIC's. One for the Linksys and one for the LAN.
This is where the fun has started.
So.... Can I just have one NIC (connected to the switch) on the mailserver?
Edit: now working, thanks very much Leigh and Dangermouse.
Anyone successfully installed AIR and iPlayer on F11?
I've switched to 32 bit Adobe flash, tried Autoten for AIR and Dangermouse's advice for iPlayer: url.html but it's not working, and trying to install AIR from url results in an endless busy downloading graphic .
I assume my problem is a lack of required packages, though I searched the repositories using YUM extender for the packages listed here: url.html and can't see them either as installed or available.
i have a asus K8N-DL MB with 2xAMD64 opteron270 and 4G ram3x1TB drives in raid 5 using onboard SIL controllerand 2 SATA drives also on SIL but not raidedhad previously had F10 64 bit loaded whick workedtried to upgrade and failed (destroyed data)tried a fresh install low level formatted the 3x1TB and made them into raidleft other drives as is takes a long time to boot into the point of trying to find HDthen nothing found
As i just started to write scripts, i'd obviously like automize some actions, therefor i'd like to check the users system if its 64bit. Is there a function to check this?
were's a good start to get into bash scripting, the files i use as template gave pretty much good info, but yet i have no idea what i'm actualy doing

I am using LDAP to manage the autofs and everything works fine. I have a situation here that I can't figure out how to do. I need to use 2 direct map in auto.master, but the LDAP service doesn't allow me to add 2 "cn: /-" entries in the directory.
The following is my auto.master map: dn: ou=auto.master,ou=autofs,ou=dolphin,dc=example,dc= com,dc=my objectClass: automountMap objectClass: top ou: auto.master dn: cn=/-,ou=auto.master,ou=autofs,ou=dolphin,dc=example,dc =com,dc=my objectClass: automount objectClass: top automountInformation: ldap://ldap.example.com.my/ou=auto.iso.indirect,ou=autofs,ou=dolphin,dc=examp le,dc=com,dc=my cn: /-
I have another ldap entry auto.data.indirect but I have no idea how to inject it into the directory. Any ideas how to implement it? I am using Fedora 13.
I am using a Dell Inspiron 14R laptop that came with Windows 7 Home Basic. The partitions of my hard disk before installing Fedora 15 were: Dell (OEM Partition) OS (C: ) (Primary Partition) RECOVERY (Primary Partition) New Volume (E: ) (Logical Drive)
I tried shrinking my C: drive (which has Windows) but couldn't do so hence performed the procedure on E: instead. I did this to create a 15GB unformatted space to install Fedora in. While installing Fedora, I chose the option "Use Free space" under Disk Partitioning Setup but the OS got installed in E: drive. Currently, I am able to use both Windows and Fedora under dual-boot but the problem I am facing is that when working with Windows, I am unable to see drive E: in Computer.
Windows Disk Manager is able to detect the partition and is showing it to be healthy (1st screenshot). Its name now is New Volume and neither am I able to change its path or letter (Error: incorrect parameters) nor am I able to check it using "chkdsk" (Error: cannot open volume for direct access/ GUI doesn't work as well) (2nd screenshot). On the other hand, I am able to access both the partitions in Fedora.
Another point to mention is that after finishing the installation of Fedora, when I started Windows, the Disk Manager as well as Dell DataSafe showed that the Windows Recovery drive had been formatted (maybe inappropriate terminology!) and was no longer retrievable. To rectify this problem, I restored my Windows to before Fedora was installed and I seem to have got the Recovery drive back (1st screenshot) (before doing this, it was nameless and empty).
I have a need to start an application on bootup on the linux console and I do not have a need for any type of login or security. I do not need any ALT-F1,F2,etc virtual consoles but I would like to allow SSH access via the network port for debugging, loading, etc.
The application is a SDL graphics program running with fbcon as the SDL_VIDEODRIVER if that matters. I'm currently using Fedora 10 and 12 but any distro that supports SDL using the fbcon framebuffer would be acceptable.
I have Intel Pentium Dual Core E2180 / 2 GHz processor. i just upgraded my system with 4 memory sticks i.e. 7GB of RAM due to my requirements. Now the issue that i am facing is that my 32bit fedora system does not showing and suppoting more than 3.XX gigs of RAM when i consult "/proc/meminfo", "free -m" and "top". Now i have done two thing, first i have installed a PAE version of kernel. In result of this my system become two slow with the following error at startup. Error: starting udev: wait timeout. will continue in the background <Failed> Secondly, i installed a 64bit version of Fedora 10 but still it showing not more than 3GB of memory. Also a kernel bug system alerts me of not supporting more than 3gigs of RAM and ask me to send that bug to[URL]
Today I got update notification. I type in terminal yum update, and get this error: Quote: Error: Missing Dependency: libnetfilter_conntrack.so.1()(64bit) is needed by package iptstate-2.2.1-5.fc11.x86_64 (installed) You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem You could try running: package-cleanup --problems package-cleanup --dupes rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest
I removed iptstate.x86_64, again run yum update, and than, ibnetfilter_conntrack got installed. I tried to install iptstate.x86_64 again, but i get Quote:
Being a LAMP snob, it pains me to even think these thoughts, but .I'm running FC-9, and developing websites, mainly using PHP - well the whole LAMP thing. I now find the need to test/code for IE. To that end I'm thinking VMware, VitrualBox, etc. loaded up with that "other" OS.
I'm sure others have gone down this path. I'm guessing the answer is Win-7. My main question is: OK, I do a virgin buy and install and register it on my VM. Six months later I want to change from VM-X to VM-Y and I reinstall - what is MS's feelings on VM's.
I am interested in doing some testing for Fedora. I want to be able to test nightly builds of fedora. I currently am running F12 and depend on it to do daily work and don't want to risk breaking it just for testing. I wanted to know how fellow fedoraforum members do testing of new fedora builds? Do they have several root partitions to install a working and testing install? Do they put in a virtual machine?
It was released a couple days ago, and the Scribus team always sends new releases to Fedora, but on my Fedora 14 x86_64 computer I can't find it in updates-testing:
Code: # yum install scribus --enablerepo=updates-testing Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit updates-testing/metalink | 15 kB 00:00 updates-testing | 4.7 kB 00:00 updates-testing/primary_db | 880 kB 00:00 Setting up Install Process Package scribus-1.3.9-1.fc14.x86_64 already installed and latest version Nothing to do
I can always download the RPM and install it directly, but I prefer to use yum. Did the updates-testing people misplace it? Or did the Scribus team forget to send it to Fedora?
I am trying to automate testing of logon into a web application using "curl". as the first step i am doing below to see if i can login to the app from command linecurl --verbose --user usernameassword my.url.combut it does not seem to be working. from the output that i get it seems it only gets to the page where to enter my username/password. but does not get past that stage. below are the first few lines from the output
curl --verbose --user administrator my.url.com Enter host password for user 'administrator': * About to connect() to my.url.com port 7790
