View 7 RepliesI am trying to set up mutt with fetchmail and procmail on server space that's not mine. I have access to /home/myusername but not to /var/spool/myusername. Everything seems to work well, but I have no idea where fetchmail (or procmail) is dropping off my mail.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI installed Ubuntu 10.10 64 on my laptop with the entire 500gb setup as encrypted LVM. This has worked well for several months with no problems. During this time i have been backing up the data to an external usb drive (1tb) on a regular basis. The usb drive was not encrypted. So, I thought it would be a good idea to encrypt the backup drive too. I wiped out the backup drive and set it up as one large encrypted lvm and mbr. This seemed to work fine but immediately afterwards I decided to erase that and set it up as encrypted lvm guid instead of mbr. I couldn't delete it while logged into my desktop so i decided to do it from a bootable gparted usb stick. In gparted i erased the 1TB backup drive once again and planned on setting it up the way I wanted once I was logged back into my ubuntu desktop. Now I cant boot into my desktop with the following errors:
cryptsetup: evms_activate is not available b0d) does not begin with /dev/mapper/
Then after waiting for a few minutes I get an error followed by (initramfs)
When booting from a live version of ubuntu the 250MB boot patition is recognized and 500 partion is there but it is labeled as empty/unused.
Also, I did choose to use the exact same passphrase as what is used on the main bootable drive when I set up the encrypted partition on the external 1TB drive.
I've just started using ubuntu one. However, some of the files I store on there are sensitive so I encrypt them using seahorse. Right click, encrypt etc etc. My question is, is there a way to automatically get the encrypt process to delete the un-encrypted file when it makes the new encrypted copy?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI had good working installation of Fedora 12 x86_64 on my desktop, but few days ago, during watch movie in mplayer, sound disappeared. Till today i can't figure out, what happened - no errors displayed, no changes in configuration and no sound (both KDE and Gnome).
I checked soundcard in ubuntu live cd and it works fine. Also on login screen in my current Fedora 12 "beep" plays when i choose user, but after this i have no sounds.
I have up to date system, pulseaudio installed (i tried to remove it, but with no effect - without it also no sound).
Strange thing is, that sound disappeared during normal work, not after update or install anything.

I like to check out movie trailers on trailers.apple.com I also like using Opera I know there is some issue with apple and the code for the new streaming codec version or something of the sort. Also, I can't even download the trailers from the site to watch them from my hard drive. It's like the linking system wont function properly.

How stable is this with ext4 on Fedora 11?
After my cloning problems this morning were resolved, I have been able to complete conversion of the clone to run from an encrypted root partition. However, I have been unable to enable selinux when running from the encrypted root. /etc/selinux/config contains the settings that work on my unencrypted system
SELINUX=enforcing
SELINUXTYPE=targeted
and it is not disabled from the grub bootline, but the encrypted system always comes up with selinux disabled. Attempting to enable it with the command setenforce 1 fails, and to add insult to injury, the selinux administration-gui shows that it is enabled and enforcing. The cloned, now encrypted, system was cloned via rsync -aHXv, so the selinux contexts/attributes have been maintained as near as I can tell. I did have to disable selinux while performing the rsync of the /selinux directory in order to get it to copy and I am wondering if there was still some issue with this method.
I know some of you are running from encrypted root fs's and was wondering: Do you have selinux enabled and is it functioning properly? Any suggestions as to how I might jumpstart it or force it to run? Maybe I should boot into the system and uninstalling/reinstalling selinux?

I have a dual boot Win7/Fedora 12 laptop. I set the region to 1 on the windows side.
I want to mount my laptops encrypted root partition so I can do some maintenance on it - xfs filesystem. Is there a way to do this?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have been using fedora 12 for last 6 months, recently I bought an external USB hard drive of 320 GB capacity. I made 2 partitions using the Disk Utility in Fedora. I encrypted the first partition as it was supposed to hold a lot of sensitive data, and yes it did have. Now I had to change my OS to AV linux for some audio-video editing work which wasnt being done properly on fedora due to some issue beyond my knowledge. now the problem is my encrypted partition is not accessible in my new installation. I see an empty space on my /dev/sda1. although no change to partition data has been done and the data on the second partition /dev/sda2 is easily accessible. when putting the drive on automount, is does not ask me for the password and neither does it show me the data. I have tried fdisk and sme other utilities but have failed to get my drive unencrypted.
View 7 Replies View Relatedi installed Fedora13 a couple of days ago and also activated the encryption of the hdd. But after updating my kernel yesterday, my PC doesn't boot with the new kernel. Choosing the old one still works, so I have still acces to my Files. But how can I use the new kernel? Or how can i completely and forever decrypt my HDD? The whole hdd is encrypted, so the boot and the home stuff isn't accesible without the key. Thats pretty depressing because I felt really intelligent when enabling the encryption
View 2 Replies View RelatedRecently installed Fedora 14 64 bit on a hardware RAID 1 from distro DVD, and set up an LVM with an encrypted /home partition. I now need to resize (enlarge) the /home partition and have not been able to do it due to system-config-lvm telling me:
"Logical volume is not mounted but is in use. Please close all applications using this device (eg iscsi)"
I have tried doing this logged in as user, and also as root. I've tried with a Live CD, but an additional problem there is that the Live does not recognize the hardware RAID and tells me I have the same /home partition in two devices, which are the two disks in the RAID array, and refuses to resize.
I found this link:
< https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Re...ptedPartitions >
which details a rather complex process to achieve what I want, but I am wondering if there is an easier way ?...
PS... forgot to mention I have been able to successfully resize all other LV's within the LVM, so I am assuming it is the encryption that is causing the problem....
I used Ubuntu for years now, but since the latest decisions got public I deceided to try something new: Fedora. I installed the system as a dualboot,Ubuntu and my old data. Because Fedora got installed inbetween of two partitions,ad to do the partitioning manually. I just made one partition /dev/sda4. During the installation process I got asked about the password for my /dev/sda1 partition. Of course, I entered it. So far so good. Now, everytime when I boot, the boot process stops and asks me for the password of the /dev/sda1 partition. However, the boot process does not go on, unless i press STRG+C.After the log in, I can also not access my data, by entering the password (GUI).The only way I can acces the data on that partition is:
Code:
su -
cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/DEVICENAME luks-fedora
[code]...
I just replaced my Fedora 14 installation in which I have an encrypted LVM which contains /home and /tmp (no, I didn't back up ), when I boot I enter my password, and get dropped to the maintainance login a few minutes later. I'm wondering how I can mount my /home from the Live system so I can just back up over the network.
I haven't worked with LVM very often so I'm out of my depths on this.
This is my partition layout as reported by the installer: screenshot
Edit: upon boot the system tells me that /dev/mapper/logvol01 and /dev/mapper/logvol00 don't exist
Edit2: Nevermind, Disk Utility is smarter than I am.
Somehow my file encryption password changed so when I went to re-install Fedora it said SDA-2 will not be available during installation. Is there a way to erase the whole disk including the ecrypted portion?
