I used Ubuntu for years now, but since the latest decisions got public I deceided to try something new: Fedora. I installed the system as a dualboot,Ubuntu and my old data. Because Fedora got installed inbetween of two partitions,ad to do the partitioning manually. I just made one partition /dev/sda4. During the installation process I got asked about the password for my /dev/sda1 partition. Of course, I entered it. So far so good.Now, everytime when I boot, the boot process stops and asks me for the password of the /dev/sda1 partition. However, the boot process does not go on, unless i press STRG+C.After the log in, I can also not access my data, by entering the password (GUI).The only way I can acces the data on that partition is:

I encrypted my /home partition in my last installation F13. For some reason, I have to reinstall F13. After I login, I can not access /home. I followed some instructions like
Times like this Ubuntu makes me want to pull my hair out. When I enter my pass on the login screen, it brings up a "Could not update ICEauthority file" error and then goes to a black screen. I've tried to fix this problem for the past 2-3 hours (searching google, these forums, etc) and at this point, I just want the data off my drive so I can restart with a fresh install of Ubuntu. I used the "gsku nautilus" command to mount the disk from a Ubuntu Drive boot, but it's not letting me have access to the encrypted drive. Does anyone know of a work around for this?

I currently have a simple bash script set up via cron to backup my data (rsync) to an internal hard drive at regular intervals. I leave this "backup" hard drive unmounted, and it is mounted and unmounted as needed with the bash script. If I were to encrypt this "backup" drive (via Luks, or some other means), is there a way to get my backup script to work without me having to be there to enter a password?
I'm having a problem auto-mounting a new luks partition. I have crypttab and fstab entries. I already have my primary encrypted partition (root) mounting at boot (from the install), but after creating this one manually, it does not open on boot. I have 2 identical disks originally configured as a pair for a server. Each of the disks has 2 partitions dev/sdb1,dev/sdb2. The sdb1 partitions I had configured as a raid1 mirror. The sdb2 partitions were non-raid and used as extra misc. Space. Further, the raid setup is also encrypted using dm-crypt luks. Now I want to redeploy each of the disks for new purposes. One of the disks i want to deploy exactly as before (keeping the partitions and content), however without being part of a raid array.
I've successfully deployed this disk into a new system and I am mounting the dev/sdb1 partition as dev/md0 because the disk is set to autodetect raid. Actually I am using cryptsetup and mounting with mapper. Can I get rid of the setting for auto detect on this partition without losing the data, or breaking the encryption? I just want to mount the partition as a standalone encrypted disk. Is it as simple as doing crypt setup luksOpen /dev/sdb1 then mounting it with mapper? Or do I need to change the partition in some way. Or do I simply continue to operate it as a 'broken' raid array?

It mounts, but when I cd to /media/Ubuntu/home/dean all I see is a blank README.txt and Access-Your-Prive-Data.desktop files. Is it possible for me to mount my ubuntu partition to be read / written to in gentoo? If not, how do I go about removing the encryption? (I still have access to the ubuntu install)
I just replaced my Fedora 14 installation in which I have an encrypted LVM which contains /home and /tmp (no, I didn't back up ), when I boot I enter my password, and get dropped to the maintainance login a few minutes later. I'm wondering how I can mount my /home from the Live system so I can just back up over the network.
I haven't worked with LVM very often so I'm out of my depths on this.

I updated through yum tonight had to reboot but it hangs on reboot.Now I can't use my computer.here point me in the right direction to fix this.I have no clue.I really need to mount this encrypted drive but it won't let me this way I can get my files and move them to another os that is working.I put in the password but it will not mount for some reason.My first venture in fedora land does not seem to be going well at all right nowor a page I have work to do and I really don't have time to be reading hundreds of pages to find the right answer.
I have been using fedora 12 for last 6 months, recently I bought an external USB hard drive of 320 GB capacity. I made 2 partitions using the Disk Utility in Fedora. I encrypted the first partition as it was supposed to hold a lot of sensitive data, and yes it did have. Now I had to change my OS to AV linux for some audio-video editing work which wasnt being done properly on fedora due to some issue beyond my knowledge. now the problem is my encrypted partition is not accessible in my new installation. I see an empty space on my /dev/sda1. although no change to partition data has been done and the data on the second partition /dev/sda2 is easily accessible. when putting the drive on automount, is does not ask me for the password and neither does it show me the data. I have tried fdisk and sme other utilities but have failed to get my drive unencrypted.
Somehow my file encryption password changed so when I went to re-install Fedora it said SDA-2 will not be available during installation.Is there a way to erase the whole disk including the ecrypted portion?
I have no idea what I'm doing so here goes: I installed Fedora and clicked the "encrypted" box during the process. What I want to do now is "browse" the volume using "File Browser" but I only get messages like, "Unable to mount location, org.freedesktop.DeviceKit.Disks.Error.Failed: Not a mountable file system". Why cannot I not see the files? I have the password. I would like to be able to move, delete, rename, etc files but that seems impossible because I cannot access the drive.
I keep my /boot partition on a usb stick, where i keep the keyfile as well. I already generated the keyfile and added it to the LUKS LVM partition.Right now, on bootup I get a nice GUI to enter my 40 character password which is nice but a little tedious What do i need to modify for the system to automatically unlock the partition with the keyfile that is stored on the /boot partition
I need to access /etc/modprobe.d on an encrypted LVM LUKS partition. I m not sure how to go about it though. Mount usually handles my mounting needs, do I need to decrypt the physical volume first? LIst of commands need would make my day.

I created a encrypted volume on top of software raid1. These are my steps:
1. Create logical partition on sda
2. Create logical partition on sdb (same size)
3. Change type to partition to 'fd' for both partitions
4. Check that the both partitions are same size and type fdisk -l /dev/sda && fdisk -l /dev/sdb
5. partprobe
6. Make sure there are no remains from previous RAID installations on /dev/sdb by running: mdadm --zero-superblock /dev/sda6 mdadm --zero-superblock /dev/sdb6
14. Mount the encrypted volume: mount -O noatime /dev/mapper/ftdata /ftdata
It mounts successfully this first time. When I cd /ftdata, I can see the lost+found dir
Now, I unmount the volume cd ~

Anyone had any experience with unlocking a LUKS encrypted root partition via ssh? It is ok to leave /boot unencrypted.
There are a few pages from google with the debians variants, archived by putting dropbear into initrd.
I like to do that with my fedora/centos remote servers, but struggle to find any resources specific to it. Anyone has any suggestions and thoughts as to what might be a suitable way forward?
I need a FREE solution that can image an entire Luks system encrypted volume and the rest of the used HDD, the MBR and /boot partition. Note: MBR and /boot are not encrypted. Note 2: I want to be able to restore entire drive from image with only a couple of steps. Note 3: Destination HDD space is a factor. Image file must be compressed and the image file must be around 40 to 50 GB or less. The smaller the image the better.
I have used clonezilla live cd before but not for encrypted volumes. I know you can install it in Linux. But, I don't know how to configure it after installation. I would be very happy if someone could tell me how to configure clonezilla in Fedora. How to guides are also welcome. I have one more question. If I image the encrypted volumes and all the stuff I mentioned above while logged in to Fedora, and I restore the drive from the image, will the recovered drive still be encrypted?
I installed 15. I have reformatted the 500mb /boot partition, didn't touch the swap partition, formatted the / partition. Trying to boot, I receive a "cannot mount selected partition". This is a fresh install. I rebooted into the Live CD to do some FS Checks, and got kernal crash, black screen, lots of kernal output while in live CD trying to do FS checks. The only line that looks like it holds any info that may be relevant is the last of the lines that says: Kernal Panic - Not Syncing: Fatal exception interupt PID 1161, comm:irq/21-0000:01: tainted: g d (kernal version) Panic+0x91/0x19c
I did an FS check on /boot and it came back fine. I did an FS check on /, and it came back fine. But then I told it to do an FS check on swap and got the warning that swap is currently mounted, and that if I proceed, it could cause serious system damage, and asked me if I wanted to proceed. I chose no, and it crashed.

Nope, i explicity made sure i installed ext3 on boot this time, and it still gives the same boot error, AND i KEEP getting that kernel crash.
I just made a new storage partition and formatted it as Ext3. Now, this particular partition is shown and can be read at the terminal "fdisk -l". However, unlike in my Mint 7 partition, it does not show in my Fedora 10.

This partition can also shows be seen in gparted in Fedora. However, even in the "Places" tab, it does not show.
Currently I have a dual boot system it consists of Fedora 12 and Windows Vista, at this time when I am logged into fedora 12 I can select the windows vista partition in the f12 file manager, I am than prompted for the root password and after entering the password, the drive mounts as read/write with no problem. How can I automate this mounting process so once I login as a standard user the NTFS partition mounts without any input? I would like this to auto mount without prompting for a password or having to double click on the vista partition each time.
I have a cluster of linux boxes that authenticate with ldap, and a few windows boxes. I have been asked to make the windows boxes mount or map one of the linux partitions on the server.Any ideas or search terms that could shortcut the research process on this would be great.
