I'm having trouble understanding how to verify the download of the Fedora iso-files. know how to do this on a Windows system. I have been looking in the help section for checking the iso-files, but I'm not sure where to find the right hashes, like MD5, SHA1, and etc.
View 6 Repliesi tried to install f13 from live cd and failed. i have 2 questions. i do not understand how to setup partitions according to scottro's message. It says you need small ext3-formatted /boot partion and a ext4-formatted root partition. Does this configuration have to be setup before you boot into the live cd? If so, please tell me how to set this up. my pc is pentium d with 2 hard drives. The master hd is has xp, ubuntu8.04, and swap partitions. I would like to use one-half of the slave drive for f13.
Second question. I would like to be able to verify download of fedora-13-i686.iso. I downloaded it to my xp partition and installed Windows MD5summer. Where or how do i get the md5 file for this iso file?
All of the discussion about slackware and kde prompted me to rsync alien's kde 4.6 packages (thanks for these by the way!).Each directory contains the .txz packages and associated .asc (all same signature)and md5s.I want to avoid doing gpg --verify whatever.asc individually for multiple files. Likewise for md5sum -c whatever.md5.Can anyone tell me a nice way of running run gpg --verify and md5sum on all files in the directory? I have been playing with wildcards but can't get it right.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for a fast way to verify a copy of a folder with 150Gigs of data, in 33 files. Some of the files are a few kb, while a few are 20-30Gigs. I've done a file count, which is quick, but doesn't verify that all the files are intact. I tried running md5sum on them, which works, but will probably take as long as copying the files in the first place. Diff works too, but is slow too.

I want to verify the root password. I am using rPath linux and my use case is like this: 1. There is screen in my application through which user can change the root user's password. He provides 2 information in the screen
i. existing password
ii. new password
2. I use a shell script in the back end that uses the "passwd" command to do it. And it doesn't ask for the existing password. But, my business use case is if user enters wrong existing password, I should not reset the password and throw some error message. How do I verify the existing root user's password? And also keep in mind that I am already in that linux box (logged in as root). Also let me now if there is any smarter way of doing it other than "passwd" command.
I was happily running F10 and against my better judgement when it offered to upgrade me to F11 I decided to give it a try. The F11 install hung at 893 of 1626 packages installed. Some SE Linux package was in process of install. On the next boot the installer fails to upgrade for a corrupted root. It says I can backtrack and do a full install, but crashes with a bug when I choose backtrack.
So here is my question - Can i edit the command line and tell the installer to full install rather than upgrade? Or am I stuck with downloading a DVD ISO and doing a full install that way. I've done F8, F9 and F10 so full install from DVD doesn't bother me.
I just downloaded the "Fedora-11-i686-Live-KDE.iso" and "Fedora-11-i686-Live.iso". I want to check if the downloaded files correct or not. I can use a tool to get the md5 sum of the downloaded files. But I want to compare them with the original ones.
