Does anyone know of any good software to record videos with a webcam? I tired cheese but it does not work . I am look for software that will record good quality videos with my webcam. I have been having to use windows for recording videos with my webcam and I hate it! (I hate having to use windows, not recording my videos).

But I'd like to record a video from it and save it to a file. How can this be done?I tried Cheese and no audio was recorded.I tried GUVCView and it was fine except for slow video & audio delay.I can't find any other programs for recording webcams on Linux.

This used to be possible back in the day before PulseAudio was installed by default (by using Mencoder, following guides such as [URL] and [URL] ) but that method doesn't work any more: /dev/dsp doesn't exist. I've also tried Cheese and that again just records a video with no audio. All the articles I can find on the topic are from the good old pre-Pulse days.
I've tried messing about with the commands a bit to use the Alsa Pulse device (defined in /etc/asound.conf) since neither mencoder or ffmpeg seem to have built in Pulse input support:

- this works, but the audio is more than a second out of sync with the video, which is a bit useless (I'm trying to record myself playing guitar), and the video is very slow (<1 fps) for the first few seconds.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem using cheese to record video from my webcam. The image is extremely slow to update. Especially when there is lots of movement it sometimes freezes for about a second.
When I use the webcam in Skype it works fine. Does anybody have a clue what might cause this and better yet, how to fix it.
Is there any software other that zoneminder that will allow me to view/record multiple webcams at once? I have 4 uvc compliant webcams and have not been able to find some software with that type of capability.

I was not able to config neither use the webcam with any application. After lots of test and forums reading I could not do my webcam to work, and now when I do a lsusb my webcam does not appear.

I've got audacity, and i've tried all the different input settings, and i can't get it to record from the sound that comes from applications, like games, etc. I checked the sound preferences and alsa/internal is selected as a sound source. I'm kinda stumped as to how to do this...

Basically i want to know if it uses the SHA-1 or SHA-2 hash function. Some might say im wearing my tin foil hat but the SHA-1 was cracked in 2005 and as far as i know SHA 2 is much more secure.
Wikipedia states it's SHA 1 and the authors of the OTR plugin mention both SHA-1 and SHA-2 in their documentation, and i couldnt find an active pidgin forum (could only find the archived pigdin forums on sourgeforge)

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running Fedora 15 XFCE spin, Audacity 1.3.13-beta and my sound is ALSA/Pulseaudio (I'm not totally sure what these are anyway, are they drivers?) Anyway, when I'm in Audacity and I go to the record options I can choose from default, pulse, and HDA ATI SB:ALC268 Analog (hw:0,0). If I try any of these three options and press record I get static. Here's a screenshot of what it looks like to press record for each of the three options in order.

The last option won't even record nothing, it just doesn't work. Also, if you look where the little picture of the microphone is, the option to drag the input volume is greyed out.

I installed the normal suite of tools using yum, including gcc. However, I cannot even build and run Hello World, so now I really feel like I don't know what's going on.

I know for certain mplayer2 supports the 10-bit encode, but whenever I try to play, only a second of audio plays with no video. Instead of video, I get an "Unsupported PixelFormat 72" error. I updated my FFmpeg libraries to 0.8 after that, however nothing has changed and I still get the error. I am currently running Fedora 15.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi installed ubuntu inside windows but someone instead of uninstalling it directly deleted the ubuntu folder inside windows ,thinking that the partition will be deleted. but when i restarted the system and command prompt came and said unable to find boot record and i couldn't boot windows as well and a grub prompt came like grub>, then i inserted the windows boot cd and repair the boot record error but my problem is , instead of doing this way, can i do so by grub prompt directly without using winidows cd.
