Red Hat / Fedora :: Unsupported Version 30277 Of Verneed Record
Jul 8, 2011
I recently installed Fedora 15 on a new laptop (after, of course, deleting the pre-installed virus that came with the laptop). I installed the normal suite of tools using yum, including gcc. However, I cannot even build and run Hello World, so now I really feel like I don't know what's going on.
Code: #include <iostream>
int main (int argc, const char *argv []) {
std::cout << "Hello, world ";
} Build: Code: g++ -o main.o main.cc -g -Wall -pedantic
g++ -o hello main.o -g -Wall -pedantic -nostartfiles
/usr/bin/ld: warning: Cannot create .note.gnu.build-id section, --build-id ignored.
/usr/bin/ld: warning: Cannot create .eh_frame_hdr section, --eh-frame-hdr ignored.
/usr/bin/ld: error in main.o(.eh_frame); no .eh_frame_hdr table will be created.
That doesn't look too promising, but they are warnings, and an executable was created, so try running it:
Code: ./hello
./hello: error while loading shared libraries: ./hello: unsupported version 30277 of Verneed record. I have not had any success understanding what is wrong from googling, so I am now trying it here.
Let's see:
Code:
> uname -a
Linux readingj 2.6.38.8-32.fc15.x86_64 #1 SMP Mon Jun 13 19:49:05 UTC 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
> g++ --version
g++ (GCC) 4.6.0 20110530 (Red Hat 4.6.0-9)

My setup is: Debian Lenny 5.0.4 I have an ATI Radeon X1200 series (embedded in the motherboard).What version of the ATI official drivers do i need? I recall that i was having troubles with the latest drivers, because ati has dropped support for these products. Another question is: Does Lenny 5.0.4 will work with the previously mentioned graphics card, or they had upgraded the version of Xorg to an unsupported one?

I'm absolotly not sure, if I'm right here. During start I see the message "unknown (unsupported) BIOS version Acer/Aspire 6920/V1.14 , please report, aborting!"but I did not found any Mail or URI, where I can report this one. So I paste the partof the boot.msg here. Hopefully it will be on the right place. If not :
Acer-6920:/var/log # cat boot.msg |grep 8.82

I have a raid5 on 10 disk, 750gb and it have worked fine with grub for a long time with ubuntu 10.04 lts. A couple of days ago I added a disk to the raid, growd it and then resized it.. BUT, I started the resize-process on a terminal on another computer, and after some time my girlfriend powered down that computer!
So the resize process cancelled in the middle and i couldn't acess any of the HDDs so I rebooted the server.
Now the problem, the system is not booting up, simple black with a blinking line. Used a rescue CD to boot it up, finised the resize-process and the raid seems to be working fine so I tried to boot normal again. Same problem. Rescue cd, updated grub, got several errors: error: unsupported RAID version: 0.91. I have tried to purge grub, grub-pc, grub commmon, removed /boot/grub and installed grub again. Same problem.
I have tried to erased mbr (# dd if=/dev/null of=/dev/sdX bs=446 count=1) on sda (ide disk, system), sdb (sata, new raid disk). Same problem. Removed and reinstalled ubuntu 11.04 and is now getting error: no such device: (hdd id). Again tried to reinstall grub on both sda and sdb, no luck. update-grub is still generating error about raid id 0.91 and is back on a blinking line on normal boot. When you'r resizeing a raid MDADM changed the ID from 0.90 to 0.91 to prevent something that happend happened. But since I have completed the resize-process MDADM have indeed changed the ID back to 0.90 on all disks.
I have also tried to follow a howto on a similar problem with a patch on [URL] But I cant compile, various error about dpkg. So my problem is, I cant get grub to work. It just gives me a blinking line and unsupported RAID version: 0.91.

I am using bind for DNS services on RHEL 5. The forward lookup is working fine. When I try to do a reverse lookup at the server, it shows the correct output but when I try lookup from Internet it shows something like - "mysite.com points to a.b.c.d, which has no d.c.b.a.in-addr.arpa PTR record"
Here are the files:
/etc/named.conf
options {
directory "/var/named";
statistics-file "/var/named/data/named_stats.txt";
};
controls{
inet 127.0.0.1 allow {localhost;} keys {rndckey;};
};
// Declaring reverse lookup zone
// Declaration of domain name resolution
view intranet {
zone "mysite.com" {
type master;
file "/var/named/mysite.com.intranet.hosts";
}; .....

I'm posting an E-Mail I sent to Pidgin Support, which didn't get answered. I'm doing this because I believe it is a general SSL problem. I've even tried a different chat client (Instantbird) - same error message. Since a week or so I'm not able to securely login to ICQ any longer with one of my accounts. Only if I disable "Use SLL" in the advanced settings, it works. With SSL I get the error message "Unable to connect to BOS server: SSL Handshake Failed". In the debug window the reason for the failure is "A record packet with illegal version was received". If I enable the setting "Use clientLogin", I get a different error: "Received invalid data on connection with server".
I get this error for all of my ICQ accounts if I enable this, but the other ones work just fine using only "Use SLL". I can login to the ICQ website with the "bad" account too, the settings are exactly the same for all 3 accounts. I was using Pidgin 2.7.3 when this happened first, upgraded to 2.7.5, but no change. I'm running RHEL 5.5 x86_64. I've attached the Pidgin debug messages for the "bad" case of the not working account and for the "good" case of one of the working accounts. I've tried a lot of things, like deleting the account and adding it again. I deleted the cached certificates. I changed the password on the ICQ website.
From the attachment I'm only pasting the most important part - the error message:
(20:27:14) gnutls: Starting handshake with bos.oscar.aol.com
(20:27:14) gnutls: Handshake failed. Error A record packet with illegal version was received.
(20:27:14) oscar: unable to connect to FLAP server of type 0x0002
(20:27:14) connection: Connection error on 0x9bf19f0 (reason: 0 description: Unable to connect to BOS server: SSL Handshake Failed)
I doesn't get into my head why 2 accounts work perfectly, but one doesn't. The login-server is exactly the same, so also the used certificate should be the same.

It's now working... if any of you have this problem:
I'm not sure but I think it's how it worked...
HTML Code:
Last night I updated system including kernel (2.6.32.9-70.fc12.x86-64), then my system couldn't start, I fixed it by booting into a previous version of kernel and:
Code:
Then I was able to boot in newest kernel, nothing blurry or so, but my Desktop Effects won't work ( want compiz to work :P )
When I try System->Preferences->Desktop Effects it says 3D isn't hardware supported.
WHen I tried "compiz --replace" it says:
Code:
I get this at boot.log:
Code:
I went to /etc/rc.d/init.d/functions and in line 520 I found some action() ( I suppose it is the same for everybody...
Now I look at my xorg.conf, and it has only this:
Code:
How could I have my effects working again ? I know a lot of people had problems with newest kernel and nvidia drivers but they all seem to be working after installing akmod ...

I recently did upgrade from F12 to F13 using preupgrade, and I was following the guide from the Fedora project website [URL]
On the section Removing unsupported packages it shows how to find orphaned packages and sugest you remove them. I tried that, found a bunch of packages that I promptly erased. But then I
came across
ModemManager-0.4-5.git20100720.fc12.x86_64
I thought "well I don't use a Modem" so I tried to yum erase it. I stopped when I saw that it was trying
to also remove the dependencies, a bunch of NetworkManager packages.
My question is, why is ModemManager flagged as an orphan if it has packages depending on it, isn't that wrong?
And also, the recommendation on the guide to remove these packages can be dangerous to people who don't pay attention (imagine someone accidentally removing NetworkManager, no internet).
I will keep the "orphaned" package out of necessity, but something is wrong in this whole deal.

My USB ntfs external hard drive mounts fine when I plug it in and I can often copy files with no problems.However, I have some large folders on my machine (~10 GB with ~ 200,000 files) which begin to copy to the external drive but then stop with the error "Unsupportes operation while copying <filename>." The file currently being copied when this happens appears to be random. Does anyone know what the issue is and/or how to fix it?

My older motherboard is a MSI K7D Master which had two AMD Athlon 1800 MP's installed. My new motherboard is a HDAMA Rev G which has two AMD Opteron Socket 940 CPUs 2.4Ghz installed. When both chips are installed, Fedora will freeze when putting the system under load (i.e when transferring data). This has now happened to both the motherboards, once I remove the second CPU the system will run perfectly.
I think it may be a kernal problem as this also happens on other linux distributions. I have posted here for several reasons, a) to allow any other person searching for a fix a solution (all be it not a good solution), b) to request help on fixing this issue or request to who and where I should report this bug, c) to see if any other users are having the same issues. I should add that I once had the MSI mobo used in conjuntion with Windows Home Server which never had a problem when both chips were installed.

I replaced the old WIFI card (Intel PRO 3945ABG) in my Dell D620 with the new Intel Ultimate-N 6300.
According to intel's website the driver is integrated in the current kernel (mine is 2.6.34.7 61.fc13.i686.PAE) and I have the latest firmware installed as well (iwl6000-firmware-9.221.4.1 1.fc13.noarch) however it does not work.
I tested the card with Windows XP and it works perfect.
The output from "dmesg" is:
Code:
Code:
But with my previous card "lspic -v" will show the driver in use but the new card does not:
Code:
So it detect the card for some reason does not assign it a driver!
And i googled this "Unsupported (too old) EEPROM" and found some results related to Ubuntu but were not useful.
So am I missing something? what does that message mean "Unsupported (too old) EEPROM"?

I have a fedora 11 with kernel package: kernel-PAE-2.6.29.6-217.2.3.fc11.i686
I would like to install the devel package for this kernel version, but I can't find it, because in the fedora repo there is only the original kernel (2.6.29.4....) and in the updates repo there is only the newest kernel package (2.6.30....)
Where can I find the packages which are between the fedora and update repos' versions?

I managed to successfully upgrade FC11 to FC13. While doing the post upgrade steps, I made a HUGE mistake. After identifying the unsupported packages, I used "yum remove package1 package2" command to remove the obsoleted ones without realizing the yum was also removing many FC13 packages! Here are the cmd sequence used:
# package-cleanup --orphans
...
# yum remove compat-db45-4.5.20-5.fc10.i386 flash-plugin-10.0.32.18-release.i386 gnome-spell-1.0.8-5.fc9.i386 ifd-egate-0.05-21.i586
[code]....
I simply typed Yes and left unattended for a few minutes after yum prompted there were # of packages to be removed as I blindly believed it would do the job. After returning to the computer, I found many installed icons were disappearing, the wireless suddenly turned off etc. I killed the yum process right away but it was too late.
-Is there anything I could do to undo the yum remove process?
-How to safely remove supported packages?

Ive being digging around the net for some clarification about the Off-The-Record plugin for Pigdin (and other IM's). Basically i want to know if it uses the SHA-1 or SHA-2 hash function. Some might say im wearing my tin foil hat but the SHA-1 was cracked in 2005 and as far as i know SHA 2 is much more secure.
Wikipedia states it's SHA 1 and the authors of the OTR plugin mention both SHA-1 and SHA-2 in their documentation, and i couldnt find an active pidgin forum (could only find the archived pigdin forums on sourgeforge)

I'm running Fedora 15 XFCE spin, Audacity 1.3.13-beta and my sound is ALSA/Pulseaudio (I'm not totally sure what these are anyway, are they drivers?) Anyway, when I'm in Audacity and I go to the record options I can choose from default, pulse, and HDA ATI SB:ALC268 Analog (hw:0,0). If I try any of these three options and press record I get static. Here's a screenshot of what it looks like to press record for each of the three options in order.
[URL]
The last option won't even record nothing, it just doesn't work. Also, if you look where the little picture of the microphone is, the option to drag the input volume is greyed out.
