OpenSUSE :: Magnify The Desktop's Appearance?
Apr 12, 2010I am working on a quite big desk where my computer is located on the left side of it. Sometimes is needed to pull the keyboard and the mouse away from the monitor when for example I want to study some papers.
I do not want to change my monitor's position I just want to be able to increase the way my desktop looks like (font size, MOUSE POINTER size, taskbar and windows size) so to be able to view th e monitor's content from a bigger distance. Of course size should be easily restored back to normal when I decide to work "normally" on my computer.
Do you know if that is possible with opensuse 11.2 and kde 4.3.X version?

Jan 11, 2010I'm getting ready to install Fedora 12 and I've been messing around with the live cd. I have a HP F4280 all in one printer. I currently am running Fedora 10 and it works fine. I remember I had to yum install the newest version of hplip and after that run the hpsetup command. My question is do I need to run the hpsetup command before using the gnome printer configuration tool or vice versa.
Also do I even need to run the gnome configuration tool at all?

I change the properties of some effects, and even after reboot, no change can be seen.Then there is the tiny Fedora-Compiz-Tool. Jul 21, 2010I'm trying to upgrade from F12 to F13 via preupgrade tool.The tool appears to be divided into 5 actions.
(1) Download release info
(2) Download installer images
(3) Determine wich packages to download
(4) Download packages
(5) Prepare and test upgrade
The tool has a tip too : "Tip: If you quit right now, your download will continue the next time you run this assistant." Well, after a long night, the tool runs until the almost finish of step 4. Then, the connection goes out, and i decided to continue in the following day. I just closed the tool and shutdown.
In the next day, i restarted preupgrade. But the application restarts from the very beginning of step 1.But, i think, the step 2 is very heavy. The file "install.img" is very very big. Re-download it is not desired.

Feb 23, 2011I have just attempted to upgrade my system from fedora 12 to fedora 13 using the preupgrade tool. It seemed to go through fine and eventually asked me to reboot, which I duly did. Does anyobe know if there is any way I can confirm that the upgrade was indeed performed successfully? When I use yum to install packages it is still installing fc12 packages, not fc13. Does this mean the upgrade did not work or do I simply need to manually update the repository conffiguration?

Sep 10, 2009When logged in as my standard user in Fedora 11 gnome desktop the installed ntfs-config tool will not open and gives an error which says this; "no authentication program found", and to run that ntfs-config as the root in a terminal. So then the only way to open that tool is to type that in a terminal, and it did open, but how can I fix this ? Can this issue be related to ownership and permissions of it ? Also the num lock does not come on during boot up, is there a easy fix for that too ? This is a recent fresh updated install from the DVD with the ext4 file system. All the ntfs-3g applications are installed as default, so I just added that enable ntfs write support tool with the package manager.

Mar 23, 2010I just done a brand new install of fed12 and did all the yum updates. Apache seems to start ok and I always liked the http config tool but it won't run on Fedora 12. I downloaded and installed system-config-httpd.noarch 5:1.4.6-1.fc12 and it all went fine but when I try to start it I get the usual box asking for my root password, I type it in and press enter, the box disappears and then....nothing. If I run system-config-httpd in a terminal I get the same box asking for root passowrd but when I enter it I get a long scroll of text which ends with:
line 4: 2137 Aborted (core dumped) /usr/bin/python /usr/share/system-config-httpd/ApacheConf.py
I don't know what causes this. Is there any way to get the http config tool working?

Apr 2, 2010I just installed Beagle and I have it indexing (by launching the indexer and checking its status via the terminal) but I can't figure out how to launch the actual searching GUI. I did some research online and found that this is done by clicking on the "search" icon under Applications > Accessories but there is not icon entitled Beagle nor search there? How do I access it?

Aug 22, 2010F13 just installed for me on a server back in the states for me. I VNC into it to setup my personal website. The GNOME menu listings do not have the tool I am familiar with that tells me which process are running, allows me to stop and start them, and to install them I believe if they are on the machine. I can see that MYSQL are on the machine with the Add/Remove tool. I also see myphpAdmin. I need to get both of these up and running. I should be able to do this with out going back to 1980's terminal commands right?

And sometimes the computer will start up and after login will go to the nice blue desk top with no icons or bars???
I had a hard time installing this os on my computer as it did not want to use the sata on board. Got a IDE to sata adapter and things went well from there. I also tried to install it on a 4 Gb CF card that was adapted thro the IDE but that was a bust also.

Sep 3, 2011I plugged in an LCD to my x41 thinkpad's VGA port and GNOME was smart enough to add it to my laptop without much prompting. A little fiddling around gave me a large spanned desktop so the cursor can pan from side to side of the two joined screens.I was wondering if I could somehow make my other window managers use this configuration, but there is hardly an xorg.conf, only the things I had in xorg.conf.d. I would like to somehow 'grab' this config and share it across WM's. My second best option would be to grab someone's dualhead xorg.conf for an intel 915GM graphics chip.
