i'm using Fedora 13 and i have a digital camera Canon IXUS 870 IS. When i plugged that camera on USB port automatically starting DIGIKAM. If possible change from DIGIKAM to a file manager as Konqueror or Dolphin? how to doing it, because DIGIKAM is very, very slow.
I used to plug in my camera into the USB interface and was able to open the picture storage with the KDE file manager - the file manager came up automatically.
Now since I have installed openSUSE 11.2, digikam insists to take over.
How can I configure SUSE 11.2 that it offers me the file manager option again? It would be great (but not necessary) if it offered a selection "Open with ..." when the USB cable is plugged in.
I am using Ubuntu 9.10 and have been using digikam to get my photos and videos in order. A lot of the creation dates are messed up, but I have been using the "adjust time and date" tool in Digikam to ge the photos set to their correct creation date.
However, when I try to do that on a .mpg or .avi I get an error that reads "Unable to adjust metadata in ****.mpg" I've tried opening the videos in other programs, like avidemux and cinelerra, I even tried opening the properties section of the videos. I haven't been able to find a way to modify the creation date of videos.
Is there a way to change the creation date of videos on Ubuntu? I would prefer to use digikam, but at this point I'm open to anything. Do I need to download a plugin? A program? Use a command line command?
I need some help on changing my desktop to ICEWM. Want my laptop to run light as possible by using thunar, icewm panels and themes. I got it to change to ICEWM as the default window manager instead of compiz, but can't figure out how to change the panels, themes and file manager?
How can I change the default file manager in GNOME? I've got these notes but neither methods work:
GUI Change under 'Session control' in 'Ubuntu Tweak' Delete nautilus and type in pcmanfm or another file manager such as thunar Apply Quit ubuntu-tweak Reboot
Non-root user cannot launch "shortcuts" (sorry I grew up on windows, don't know the right term) from the file manager or plasma desktop manager. They have full permissions to the shortcuts, even ones they create do not work.If I log in with root permissions they work fine
Using Fedora 10. I want to try different file managers for a while but can't find how to specify the default. I can open each one via the apps menu but can't find the "set as default" option.
I installed digikam 1.4.0 I guess it's the last version on ubuntu 10.10. I can browse my photos but I cannot edit for example I have a jpg file, click edit all the menu like disabled, gray for example menu color, color balance is gray like curve /black and white and all the menu.
$ uname -a Linux inspiron 2.6.26.8-57.fc8 #1 SMP Thu Dec 18 19:19:45 EST 2008 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
How do I change the window manager? At the moment when my laptop finishes booting I'm presented with a username prompt. There are no other controls of any kind. After logging in I'm using the twm window manager. I would rather be using fvwm. I've tried putting "fvwm" in the files .xinitrc, .xsession, and .Xclients, to no avail.
I have googled this and all the answers involve doing something in Gnome (don't have it), KDE (don't have it), or the clicking a button in the session manager (no buttons). There must be some configuration or script somewhere that it is telling xdm to run twm, but so far I haven't found it.
I've been using kde environment in fedora 11 but I get the login screen gdm instead of kdm. Is there any way to change the display (login) manager from gdm to kdm.
I spent *#@$ hours trying to figure out how to change my default window manager to "compiz-manger".I tried using gconf-editor and .gnomercAnybody has an idea how to do this?
I currently install mysql-5.1.53 on my fedora 13 Linux. After I configure all files the mysql service can not start.in the Termial shows:service mysqld start Starting MySQL. ERROR! Manager of pid-file quit without updating file.

1 week ago I updated my box, and after the reboot and installation of the new kernel 2.6.31.6-166.fc12.i168.PAE the desktop background and the icons of it disappear, and when i click to open the home dear, it loads and than do nothing.I can't right click on the desktop and when i shot down the system it pop's up to me "A program is still running" File Manager Not Responding Sow, first i think is a bug (spread) , and with the next update it will bee fixed but now after 1 week, i updated my system and nothing changes. I can't browse anything, and for now bash is the only friend for me.For info, the same thing happens when i boot with the old kernel
Yesterday I install f12 into my laptop, installation is goes fine, I successfully boot into my desktop all thing is good, after that I update some packages and then reboot my system, after reboot I cant see any thing on my desktop, and when is logout or restart my f12 system a popup messages comes up in which I got the messages file manager is still running but not responding even I also cant right click on my desktop, I reinstall my nautilus but the problem is still there.
I'm using F11, KDE, and Dolphin (primarily) as the file viewer. Is there any quick and easy way to be viewing a giant folder of images in the file viewer and then just highlight a few that you want to resize to 800x600 (or whatever)? Currently I have to pull them into GIMP and then resize each one. Alternatively, I can pretty easily do a command line to resize the whole folder, but I don't really need every image resized. I'm mainly going through and thinking "oh, be fun to send this one to so and so" but I don't want to send them the eitire 18Megapixel image. A nice quick resize to 50Kb and 800x600 or something would be perfect but this just hasn't appeared for me yet.
I have a file that was created in Virtual Machine Manager and I need to get it out of the virtual operating system(windowsXP). Writing to a USB would be ideal but that hasn't been working since I upgraded to Fedora12.Is there anyway I can mount the image to retrieve the file?wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/loop0, missing codepage or helper program, or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so mounting as fvat doesn't work either.
I recently decided to install xfce-desktop as a fallback alternative whenever Gnome 3 has problems. Now I have the Thunar file manager opening up by default even when logged into Gnome (for example when using Alt-F2 and typing in a folder name, or when plugging in an iPod.) I've searched around for days but can't find any place to set a default file manager. The Default Applications dialogue doesn't include file manager, only web browser, video etc.)
I don't know what I did differently before this happens. Now I cannot access files or see icons on the desktop. The "starting file manager" continuously loops in the bottom panel, continuing to load forever. in the system monitor, if I kill the process "gnome panel", it resets itself, then continues the process. Only thing different I did was install that one thing that gives you System->Preferences->Windows by hitting "yum install control-center-extra".
i need to change a file that keeps coming up with a error how can i log in as root i can logging in as user and i was doing everything though terminal but now i need to login ass root
I've seen it every where with zero resolutions, I have extremely high ram usage with nautilus .
[code]...
Just opening folders with lots of directories takes forever. I would have assumed it all as normal but I just build a windows 7 machine and have it on the same network. Windows 7 SMB scan of the same shares is virtually instant where as my Fedora machine creeps along. Also it never give back the ram used. It ramps up and up, leak? Almost the same hardware. Both with tons of ram. Nautilus previews are all turned off but still same slowness. Network speeds are the same. Both on gigabit with about the same download speeds. Is there ever going to be a revamp/change/fix or do I need to start looking for other file browsers?
So I have created a Bash script with the intent of the program to change the names of the files in a folder's subdirectory. The code recognises the individual subdirectories, then is able to enter into one and list the files individually, but when it tries to change their information it says;' cannot stat ' : ' No such file or directory 'As if it is looking in the directory that contains the Bash script, not its subdirectory. It is essentially saying, I see a file here called FILE but sorry, I can't change FILE because FILE doesn't exist. kweh?Is this something outside the capabilities of Bash? Am I asking too much of it? Can Bash only manipulate files that are in the same folder as the script?
I recently upgraded to Fedora 15 and am super-happy with it. Unfortunately, I have a minor issue that I haven't yet figured out how to fix: I can't change the default applications or the file type associations. For instance, I'd like to set Chromium as my default browser. When I first login, I tell it to set itself as default. But after I end my session and log back it, Firefox is back to being the default browser.
I have the same issues when trying to change what applications open filetypes. .rtf files have been opening in Wordpad in Wine. When I try to change it to Writer through the "Open with" dialog, it retains the change for that session but resets after I log out. I actually ended up having to uninstall Calibre because it was opening .odt files instead of LibreOffice and I couldn't change it permanently.
I really need to burn my 64 kbps uncompressed A-Law PCM file to Audio CD uncompressed as is and make this 8 hour file appear on CD Players. What app does it for me? It must fit on CD! Goldwave makes a-law / u-law wav files BTW. I can do this with linux or windows with any application. tell me how or where to download. I have the wav files already.
My clock needs to be set to usa time with am and pm But I don't see any option to select that? So I read online that I need to edit /etc/adjtime and change it from UTC to LOCAL
Problem is when I'm in the terminal it tells me I'm not in the sudoers file? So how do I fix my clock? its insane that I cant change the option in the clock options, and its also nuts that even though I created a root password I can't seem to just sudo and change it?
