How is it possible to store and backup our files online? I don�t know that how this concept actually works. is there any kind of device needed while storing data at another location
View 2 RepliesI am adding inventory control to our online store here at work and I'm not sure of the best approach.Let's say Customer A and Customer B are both looking at the product page for Product X at the same time, and there is only 1 left in stock. What should happen if both click "add to cart" at (more or less) the same time?hould the last Product X get put "on hold" for one of the customers, and then decremented once the sale is complete? Or should the database decrement the product count, and then increment it if the sale doesn't go through successfully?Is it still possible for both to add it to their cart? Are there any mysql features I can use to ensure both cannot purchase the last product?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI Acer aspire 3620 and would like to backup whole system. My laptop has a 40Gig hdd. Is there a way I can either create an image or copy(clone) to another computer just in case I need it. If it matters I have a spare 40 gig drive on the other computer. The reason for doing this is so that I can try a system restore and if anything goes wrong I want to be able to transfer back. Also if it is posible how could I put it back and be bootable.

Even though I had set my system proxy settings - including authentication - to pass the proxy, my online backup service (Jungle Disk) stopped connecting. I finally figured out that I had to include proxy port in the Jungle Disk Desktop tool's configuration (like this: 192.168.0.1:8080). That worked fine until I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 - with the identical proxy setup. This time I can't get any connection at all. Here's the Jungle Disk report:

I am writing my own anacron script that backs up my most important files from my laptop to my office pc regularly using rsync. However, sometimes my laptop is on when anacron starts the back-up job but my laptop is offline, so that it cannot rsync with my desktop. Is it possible to tell anacron to re-schedule the task to either the next time I'm online again or to some later date (preferably not the next scheduled time, but some time before)?

- Online : Ideally, I would like to send a sync to all VMs before pause and snapshot, but it seems that it's not possible with KVM (it was with XEN). The save command seemed to be an option, but it crashes some VMs. So, what do you recommend to backup these VMs online ?
- Offline : Is there a command to shutdown all vms, and start them back after snapshot/backup ?
I install and tested Restore EE Backup server on a test PC with basic configuration and its working fine.

The issue i have is where is the location these backup snapshots or files are saving? I want to add a separate Storage to save the backup?
I'm just setting up a partition on a seperate HDD in my system. I plan to use the partition to backup the important files on my main HDD (to guard against HD crash).
The question I have is about where would be the typical location to auto mount this partition? Which would it be normal to go for:
1. /backup/
2. /media/backup/
3. /mnt/backup/
4. /home/chris/backup/
I'm going to be launching my website soon, and I found a company to host it on one of their dedicated servers. I think I'm going to go with fedora as to OS, and well my problem is I'm having trouble finding a company to backup up my files, that both supports fedora and well is reasonably priced.

The HD has been partitioned so that the computer can run Red Hat Scientific Linux. Using Grub I can dual boot to either Windows 7 or Linux on start up. I want a simple way of backing up the entire contents of my HD (both partitions - everything) - so that in the event of my laptop being damaged I can reconstruct my set up and data as before with all my files and settings in both Windows 7 and Linux intact. Is there a simple program that will enable me to copy everything to an external HD for back up. Can anyone recommend a package that will do this?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have two students whose windows laptops are riddled with malware and not working properly. They want me to help them install Linux (which we use in school), but they are concerned about their iTunes.
Having avoided iPods as "defective by design", I know nothing about iTunes whatsoever. However I remember reading about DRM locking and such problems that have me concerned that I won't be able to do it.
Where does iTunes store its stuff?
Can I copy its data store to an external drive, and then into a linux home?
Then will it work on wine, or can another manager (rhythmbox etc) access the itunes data?
Alternatively, if I partition the drive and install linux, can rythmbox/wine/something access itunes data on the win partition?
Supposing they are buying music through iTunes, what will happen to that account?
Finally, one of them has an iphone. Does that work with linux?

I need to transfer some email off of an IMAP server. But there will not be an MTA available to make the transfer to at the time I need to do it. I'm looking for an option to configure fetchmail so that it merely stores each piece of email into a separate file in a designated directory.
If it wants to make a complex path of more than one directory layer, that's OK. Or all the mail can be in one directory.
If a different program other than fetchmail would be better for this kind of purpose, that, too, is OK ... provided that program has the option to keep all mail on the IMAP server it fetches from.
I just finished getting a semi-old desktop computer up and running with ubuntu server edition. It's running subversion and samba for my office of 5 people. I was wondering if there was a simple online/cloud based backup service to automatically back up my subversion repository and samba shares in case of any hardware problems?

I have a Firefox tab open to the rsync manual page(s) and have been reading man rsync and running experimental rsync operations.I've been doing this for the last 3-4 hours. I've used rsync for this purpose in the past with disastrous results. What was and is once again (due to a month and a half of file pruning) a 9000 file music collection had mysteriously grown to over 25,000 music files and 80GB of data! This was likely due to the fact that I didn't really know what I was doing with rsync and had never spent too much time learning about all the parameters, what their functions are and how they may relate to my goal.Here are the particulars:
* Source drive is a 500GB disk, /media/sata500/music/.
* Destination drive is a 250GB USB disk, /media/FreeAgent/music, connected to the same computer that houses the 500GB disk.
* I want to copy or backup files from /media/sata500/music to /media/FreeAgent/music.
* I do not want to create ANY duplicates of files that exist.
* I only want to add files to the destination drive if they are new on the source drive, like if I rip a CD and add the contents to the source. I want them copied over next time I run rsync.
Here's the rsync command in it's most recently used form, and probably very immature at this point.

This appears to have copied all files and folders and I'm satisfied that my goal has been met with some success. To convince myself of this I ran the command and then once it was complete I added 2 new songs putting them in their respective folders on the source drive and ran the same command again. Two files transferred. Exactly what I want.Both folders now house 20,931 files and use 40.6GB. Identical as far as I can tell.What I'm concerned about are time stamps and play count data, etc. Anything that changes the original file. I don't want this data to cause a file to be transferred as I'm afraid that the new file will be created along side the old file of the same name thereby starting this whole music collection expansion thing all over again. I've invested a lot of time and effort to get it pruned down to where there are virtually no duplicates and albums are correct in that they contain the proper songs in the proper order.
Does anyone know where the files downloaded from the Ubuntu One Music Store are stored?They are not in the Music folder or anywhere else in my home folder that I can determine, yet Rhythmbox sees them. I noticed that in the Rhythmbox preferences I can no longer specify one specific folder as a watch folder (it defaults back to "Multiple Locations Set"). I'd like to transfer the files I bought to a flash drive, but cannot find them.

One of the things that bugged me, was that bash/ssh/screen and other settings weren't synchronised between those new computers. And that I had to go through the hassle of having to recreate all those files when using a new computer. So I decided to start using Dropbox for this as well.

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my computer from Windows 7. Originally my Hard Drive was Split into two separate partitions. One was for the OS and the other was basically a storage drive. During the install of Ubuntu I deleted the OS Partition, Installed Ubuntu in that Partition, and used my Storage partition as a Swap.
After the install was complete Ubuntu loaded great and works just fine, the only issue is I can't find the other Partition where all my files were stored. Is there any way to locate this partition and access it as you would with Windows Computer>D:>etc or is there some other way to go about this?
I recently got a new laptop and I'm trying to figure out how to divide up its partitions. I was thinking that I would install Ubuntu on a relatively small partition and store all of my files on the NTFS parition, linking them back to Ubuntu.
What's a comfortable size for an Ubuntu parition?
Also, I've tested 64-bit Ubuntu and it doesn't seem to have any major problems. Though I might upgrade, I only have 4 GB of ram right now. Should I install 64- or 32- bit?
I'm using CentOS 5.5 with smbclient 3.0.33-3.28-el5 (latest version in repo), and I can't overwrite files in my Samba store. I am not the admin for the Windows server that hosts the share, so there isn't anything I can do server side. But I do have write permission to the server. I know the server runs Windows XP or Server 2003; I don't know which. I can delete the file, and then copy the new version over, but I can't overwrite it. Using the cp command I'll get this error:

And if I edit a file on the server using vim, I can save it once, but if I save it again I get this: "/mnt/si_storage/foo.txt" E212: Can't open file for writing This is my /etc/fstab entry for the samba server: //192.168.1.2/SI_STORAGE /mnt/si_storage cifs username=myuser,password=mypass 0 0 I can overwrite files just fine on my XP machine. The CentOS box is the only one having problems.

Edit: All user config files is usually stored somewhere in /home/$USER/. And since all the programs, kde, xfce and gnome stores their config there, this question is about what files belong to the xfce desktop.

I am writing a script, in that my requirement is, if all the fill types stored in one directory from that we need to separate different different directories based on the file types.
for example in a directory(anish). 5 different types files
1- directory
2- .txt files
2- .sh files
like that and my requirement is the (1- directory is moved to one new directory(dir) which we are given in the script)and (2 .txt files are moved to another new directory(test) which we are given in the script)and ( 2 .sh files are moved to another new directory(bash) which we are given in the scrip)finally the directory anish should be empty..using bash script.how it is possible !!
