How to add something to start when you are logged in (System -> Preferences -> Startup Applications), but I want to know, where this parameters stored.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI It does not start when the system boots. The smbd daemon is present and there are no suspicious messages in the system log, dmesg or the samba logs. The nmb service *is* enabled at all of the relevant run levels and does start if I issue the command "service nmb start" as root after I log in. This particular box's networking is 802.11n via a usb port and is under the control of the network manager. I have another fedora 12 box with an internal intel 5100 802.11n card and it does not have this problem.

I think that's some configuration problem. Where are the data of of the startup applications stored? (i suppose it's .xx file that I could just delete to restore defaults)

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just installed linux Mint 9 and having problems with the system tray icons. Im missing the netowork manager icon, mintupdate icon and more. They are checked in the startup applications and I dont get them until i run manually for example nm-applet etc. Its like many of the startup applications are not running. But i do have for example a network connection even if i dont see the applet icon.

Wanted to access the session manager, but when I scroll to System/Preferences, there is no entry for it, or for the startup programs manager. Also, I'm getting the following error when attempting to open the "windows" entry: Failed to execute child process "gnome-window-properties" (No such file or directory)
Did I somehow botch something in gnome which is now leading to the absence of the session manager as well as the inability to launch the "windows" manager?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've used linux systems before, but the last time I actually set up a server was when fedora core 4 came out, which was, to say the least, quite a while ago. here's my core dilemma: atm, I have fedora 13 set up, and i'm looking to be able to vnc into it WITHOUT already having logged on as a user. I've tried various things and I'm having little to no luck. I uninstalled tigervnc and installed the original vnc package (With server) from realvnc.com. I've also installed xinetd and tried to get it to incorporate vncserver as a startup service, to no avail.
I have not been able to connect to the vncserver regardless of how I try. I AM able to connect to the base remote desktop functionality provided by fedora (Also vnc based). However, as soon as I disable that, I am not able to vnc into it at all. Long story short, here are the current goals:
1) be able to vnc into the computer without having logged into the system physically
2) have those logins be un / passworded. i.e., be able to login as whatever user
3) complete disable the normal graphical startup that fedora provides, since I don't think there's ever going to be a person physically at the computer and I'd like to maximize system resources
Also, if VNC is NOT the easiest way to do something like this, please let me know, I'm completely amenable to taking another route. In short, I'd like non-physical per-user graphical access to the server. I'd also like it to be more than one single vnc session, as I may have it open from either multiple locations or multiple users.

How do I set startup applications in fedora 15? In fedora 14 I used to have this wizard to which I could add an application that I would want to run on startup.
my Conky needed the Coretemp, and a friend of LQ told me to run modprobe, and it works greate! no every time I start my system, I need to run the modprobe to add the module to Kernel. How can I put the coretemp to start every startup? (I think there is somenthing to do with a file on the rc.module at /etc/rc.d/, but I'm afraid to do something stupid...) I want to make the conky running after start of the system. How can I do this?

It looks as if, regardless of what I set, I get daily checks. Is anybody else experiencing this? Anybody got a fix? I like the idea of having the system check for me, so I don't want to just pitch the program.

I am running ubuntu 10.4, windows 7, and I had ubuntu 10.10 on a single hard drive. I upgrade the 10.10 system to 11.4 and now my grub menu which is on the 10.4 system shows two windows and two 11.4 installations.
How can I clean this up? Also I have tried to start with the grub 1.99 on the 11.4 system and all I get is a black screen at startup. I am happy with grub on 10.4 except for the extra lines.

View 4 Replies View Relatedas audacity comes without MP3 support I tried to compile audacity for Fedora 13 myself. The compilation works fine (configure/make/make install) but there is no sound system to choose at preferences/devives/host.
Does anyone ahve an idea what went wrong with compilation or where I can finde rpm files including MP3 support?
Every time I open "sound preferences" from either the sound applet or the preferences menu pulseaudio CPU usage goes right up to 100% and proceeds to lock up the entire computer. pavucontrol, paman, and all the other pulseaudio utils work fine, except for ubuntu's sound preferences. It affects a new account.This is my 10.04 desktop that is affected. I have just the default pulseaudio config.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've found mentions of this problem in Lucid Lynx, but this is a recent development for my system, since I've been running Ubuntu since Gutsy Gibbon.On start up my gdm theme/icons appear for a second, but by the time I've entered my keyring password the theme reverts to the system default (what Synaptic package manager looks like). It also does not load my start up programs Gnome-Do and Screenlets. My theme only appears if I go into the Appearances menu, and Gnome-Do only starts if I pick it from the Accessories menu (and I've gone into Gnome-Do's preferences and clicked on "start GNOME-DO at login"). About once in a blue moon it will load everything correctly.

I just need to know what that program that manages startup applications is called. I used to use it in fedora 14 for a keyboard fix(a key wasn't assigned to the right symbols). I just need to run a xmodmap script to fix it but I don't know how to make it run everytime I start the system.

From the many distros I tried with KDE ( openSUSE, Arch, Gentoo, Mandriva ), only in Fedora 12 worked this option, and I hoped it will in F13 too, this is one of the reasons I installed Fedora. View 2 Replies View RelatedI am facing problem with the fresh installation of Fedora 11. (I have moved from Fedora 9). When I try to view videos on ..... or use the Cheese Webcam Booth, I get blurred lines on the screen and I am unable to see any video or pic.
Also I noticed that the when i go to System > Preferences>Display, it shows me UNKOWN MONIOR.
However, if I got to System>Administration>Display and enter the su password, it shows me correct monitor and the graphics driver.
I am not sure if my original is related to the Unknown Monitor.
I also tried to install Nvidia driver but it crashed the xserver and I had remove the driver.
My Monitor is LG 700E and Graphics card is from intel. as I am not able watch any video.
