Fedora :: Xorg Hangs On First Run?

Aug 9, 2010

Does not matter if I first start Xorg from GDM or from console (runlevel 2 then startx), but after I upgraded to Fedora 13 Xorg is hanging on the first run.

I have to always kill Xorg and then start again. Second run works fine.

Ubuntu :: Hangs At Install Screen - Then Reboots And Hangs At HP Logo

My PC is x64 compatible, although ubuntu will not install.

I don't get to any gui, it says ubuntu will continue install in 5 seconds, at 0, nothing happens. The CPU light is flashing, but nothing happens.

After about 10 minutes, it reboots, but when the HP splash screen shows (Before the boot selection screen) it just hangs. I have to do a hard shutdown to boot back up.

I am using wubi for install.

Software :: Xorg-server-1.7.1 Shows Only Blank Screen After Update From Xorg-server-1.6.3?

Jan 5, 2010

my laptop is running Slackware64 13.0. Today I tried to update to X.org 7.5 (version 1.7.1) from version 1.6.3 shipped with Slackware. I downloaded the relevant source tarballs from www.x.org and compiled them with no errors. The compiled packages are:

xorg-server-1.7.1
xf86-input-synaptics-1.2.0
xextproto-7.1.1
xcmiscproto-1.2.0

[code]....

My laptop has an NVIDIA graphics card and I'm using the proprietary driver from NVIDIA. Thus I reinstalled the driver after the update and tried to launch X.org with "startx". After a short while the NVIDIA logo appears for some hundred milliseconds and disappears then. But now the screen is blank and it is not possible to switch to another VT via Ctrl+Alt+Fx. But it is possible to login from another computer and restart everything, so that I conclude that the system does not hang.

It is even possible to do work normally with the laptop from remote. If I try to kill the X-server, it ignores SIGTERM and has to be terminated by SIGKILL. But the laptop's screen stays black and empty and does not allow to switch to another VT (chvt terminates with "interrupted system call."). dmesg does not give any errors.

/var/log/Xorg.0.log:

X.Org X Server 1.7.1

Fedora :: 11 Xorg Is Very Slow ?

Sep 1, 2009

Why is X in F11 so slow. I have worked with fedora laptop since spring 2006. The first one was F5 and then F7. The X ran always very quickly,. well, at least quick enough. I did not feel any need to upgrade to F8 F9 or F10. I heard from my friend that new F11 is awsome. So I decided to change form F7 to F11. Result was quite big disappointment. The only good things were speed of Firefox and Opera. Specialliy Opera was like like greased lightning. But raw X applications were like snails. I mean applications compiled with lesstif or motif for example.

My machine is Acer TravelMate 2410. 1.5GHz and 512 MB RAM. Yes its old, but not too old. Can I tweak F11 somehow to make it work ?

Fedora :: How To Downgrade The Xorg

Aug 22, 2010

I am using Fedora12 and I'm running the radeon graphics driver, my card is ATi 8500 Radeon and I can't play hardly any games or use applications that require 3D Acceleration. The catalyst driver that I need for my ATi is too old to support Fedora 12 Xorg.is there a way to downgrade Xorg so I can install my cards drivers?

If there is how can I do this. If I run a 3D game of any kind It either works for a while and locks up the system where I can't even telnet into it to shut it down, or it won't start the game or App. I know I have some acceleration due to my glx gears, I could get into great detail of what I can and can't do.

Bottom line is since the video card is too old, not even the generic radeon driver allows me full freedom so there must be a way to install the other X.org without breakage

Code:

GL_RENDERER = Mesa DRI R200 (R200 514C) 20090101 AGP 4x TCL
GL_VERSION = 1.3 Mesa 7.7.1-DEVEL
GL_VENDOR = Tungsten Graphics, Inc.

[code]....

The R200 Radeon driver for my ATi in Fedora12 is not fully compatible with my video card, I was told this on an IRC channel a while ago, I think it stopped at Radeon 9600 ATi.

Fedora :: Changing Driver In Xorg?

Sep 7, 2009

I am setting up fedora 11 for a home theater. I installed fedora on another computer and figured out how to get the sound working for a Claro Halo sound card. (NOTE: you need to update the drivers for alsa to the same version of the utils that came with fedora alsa-drivers-1.0.21)So I went ahead and installed Fedora on my home theater box. Now I have a problem with the x driver. Fedora installed the nouveau driver by default. Because I have a Panasonic wide screen tv the EDID is bad on this TV so I get severe overscan (Means I can't see the top and bottum menus) I need ti install th nv driver. I looked for xorg.conf but it's not there.So my ig question is how do you change the driver for xorg? And how do I make sure I have nv installed before I try and install it with x?

Fedora :: So Many Xorg-x11-drv-* Files, So Little Space?

Nov 19, 2009

I can understand installing so many xorg-x11-drv-* files being installed, especially from a livecd. What I don't understand is why I can't remove the ones for hardware I don't have. For example, if I try to do a yum remove (or use yumex to do so) xorg-x11-drv-cirrus, it wants to remove xorg-x11-drivers.Now I understand that the -drivers file is a way to force all of them to be installed. Will it break anything if I go ahead and remove it along with the extra -drv- files?It is more than an academic exercise. I have installed Fedora 12 Constantine on my EeePC 900. Given the limitation in storage space, I would like to free up as much of it as I can so these superfluous video drivers need to go away. Since I don't want to break my setup in the process, I have not executed the command.

Fedora :: F12 64-bit And ATI Catalyst 9.12 - Downgrade To XOrg 7.4?

Jan 27, 2010

I've recently installed a Radeon HD 5770 graphics card, but it currently doesn't have support from any open source drivers (including MESA's experimental DRI drivers). The only other option would be ATI's Catalyst drivers, but 9.12 doesn't support Xorg 7.5 at the moment (the drivers disable Xorg; leaving a terminal only setup).

The question I've got is that is it possible to downgrade Xorg to 7.4 as a temp workaround and if so, how easy would it be to revert back to 7.5 afterwards.

Fedora Installation :: Porting 9.04 Xorg To F13?

Jul 7, 2010

My problem is I own an HP2133 with via graphics. These drivers are very poorly supported, both open-source and proprietary drivers F13 runs quite nice on that machine, but playback of videos or flash lacks much perfomance.Proprietary drivers are only provided for Ubuntu and that only for 9.10 by VIA until know. With these drivers Ubuntu 9.10 is able to playback flash/videos quite good. But Ubuntu (9.10) brings a few annoying bugs, which do not seem to be fixed, that is the thing I do dislike with this ditstro. I pushed my luck and tried these drivers with F11/F12, but they did not work due to differences in xorg version. In F10 it was possible to use 8.04 VIA drivers, but F10 has EOL and is besides flash playback considerably slower than later Fedora releases.

So I thought using alien or similar tools to convert the xorg packages from Ubuntu 9.10 into rpms and install these to a F13 release.... (Like downgrading to an older xorg like it was necessary in F9 for ATI cards ...) As the VIA drivers did not work with earlier version of Fedora, I had the idea porting Ubuntu's xorg to Fedora that way.Before I start spending a lot of time on this, I would like the freaks and neerds around here, if this to your opinion could have any chance of success.

Hardware :: Xorg.conf Is Replaced With A Default Xorg.conf After Reboot ?

Apr 9, 2010

I have installed Kubuntu 8.04.2 on a USB stick with persistence to keep any changes I make after a reboot and it works fine. I then installed the 185 Nvidia driver to give me higher resolutions and it works fine.

But each time I reboot, my updated xorg.conf is replaced with the default xorg.conf that ships with that version of Kubuntu and a backup is made of my updated xorg.conf (the correct one) which looks like xorg.conf.20100409135913. I have to put the backup xorg.conf back in place to get my Nvidia driver to work with the correct screen resolutions again. Otherwise my screen resolution is too low.

What could be causing this behavor? I'm sure it not the persistence feature of the USB stick failing since a backup is made of my original xorg.conf.

I might add more information. The xorg.conf that gets changed after a reboot says "This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using # values from the debconf database." #

Now, I boot into a black screen with a flashing prompt in the upper left hand corner. Normally, I would jump to the console using ctrl+alt+F1 to fix the problem manually.
