Fedora :: Folder Icon - Desktop - Document - Music - In Home Dir - Do Not Change With Theme
Dec 19, 2009I was playing with some gtk2 themes and , unaware of the consequences, i manually changed folder icons from folder properties for some of the folders (desktop, document, music, etc) in my home directory. The problem now is that these folder icons do not change when i change the icon theme. how can i bring it back to normal?

Namely habak, trayer and rox-filer (the last one is optional though). Is there any way to download these programs and install them independantly?

Feb 21, 2011I updated my laptop from F12 to F14 via preupgrade. After doing so, the standard mouse theme was active. So I installed the one I like again and set it as mouse theme. For some reason it is now a mixture of the one I installed and the standard theme. If I open a place in nautilus the displayed symbol is the right one while waiting, if I open something in control center I get the standard icon. Same problem with drag and drop, I always get the hand from the standard theme. I also tried the former standard theme Bluecurve and it was the same problem.Can anyone tell me what goes wrong with the theme? What has changed in F14, that the older themes won't work?

Jun 27, 2009I'm running Fedora 11 x86_64 (GNOME) and I'm having a problem installing ANY themes from http://art.gnome.org. Any time I try to install a theme I get an error that it's "appears to not be a valid theme" When I first click the install button and navigate to my theme packages, I don't see the [dot] theme file, which is a red-flag. I change to "All files" and I tend to see an "index.theme". Is this the correct file?

May 15, 2010The upgrade appeared to go smoothly, but now logging in to a normal session just gives me a desktop wallpaper and nothing else.If I log into Gnome-Failsafe then I get a panel and desktop icons back, but still no window managerI have to initiate metacity manually.Wondered if it was something to do with my messy personalisation settings, but a new test account I created has the same problem.

Jun 28, 2011I recently preformed a full update to my openSuSe 11.3 x64 + gnome install. Everything was running fine before the update however post a number of features have stopped working or have changed. I used the command zypper up to update everything. The errors I've been recieving are as follows, Wastebasket
Won't open on via Desktop or Places menu. Gives the following error "Could not display "trash:" File Is Of An Unknown Type". If I drop things on the Wastebasket the files do go to /home/USERNAME/.local/share/Trash/files but I can't Empty Wastebasket upon right click as the option is highlighted out.
Computer Icon If I try to open it from link in Places menu I get the error Nautilus cannot handle "computer" locations.. The link to it has also disappeared from the left hand panel if I have a Nautilus window open.
Mounted Icons Previously I used to have 4 drives mounted;
1 network (NFS),
1 encrypted (TrueMount),
2 Windows (partitions of main machine)
Out of these only the encrypted and network drive showed on the Desktop and two Windows drives would stay mounted under /windows but have no icon on the Desktop. After the update, all these drives are on the desktop and but the only way to not have them appear on Desktop is to set Gnome config not to show any of the icons on Desktop. Although these are independent errors, they are all related to folders (at least indirectly) so I felt it was better to group them together to give a better picture of the issue.
Ubuntu :: Different Theme On Each Desktop ?
Aug 26, 2010Is it possible to install a different theme on each of the multiple virtual desktops? For example, I thought it would be interesting to have the default Ubuntu theme installed on the primary desktop, on the secondary desktop have a Windows 7 theme, on the third desktop have a Mac OSX theme, and perhaps another theme on the fourth.
After looking at sites like these I am interested in finding out if this is possible:

I realize switching between themes may be a tough thing for a computer to do quickly, but if it is possible I'd at least like to try it on my desktop, which has enough processing power to at least make the transition time bearable. Does anyone know if/how I can set virtual desktop specific themes?

I want to create my own theme. When I used IceWM I LOVED theming my windows and taskbar, but the window manager had little capability as far as functionality went.Does anyone know how to customize the desktop theme with a little more than just the themes manager or can someone refer me to a good resource for doing so?

Jun 25, 2011I am running 11.04 on a Dell Inspiron 1500 series laptop. I updated my computer yesterday, and now my desktop theme is different. In 10.04, changing the theme was easy, just go to appearance settings and choose. For some reason, when I go to appearance and select a theme now, the only options I get are customize and install, neither of which do anything to help me change my theme. The install button takes me to my home directory...presumably to pick a theme file. But I can't find any themes in my home directory.

Oct 27, 2010Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on a Dell XPS Studio 8000 - I find that on occasion the desktop theme seems to change itself. I have selected Clearlooks. The desktop generally looks correct as shown in the first attachment. Then for some unknown reason the desktop changes - most obvious are the buttons which are now square cornered rather than round cornered. See the second attachment. Appearance Preferences usually still shows the Theme as Clearlooks although I have had it change to "Custom" a time or two. Logout/login does not fix the problem. A reboot will fix the problem and return to the correct Clearlooks Theme

Everything works great, but I am encountering an annoying, and regular problem: almost every time I update my system (through synaptic) and reboot, my desktop theme gets reset to the more "blocky" default gnome one.
What I do is run "gnome-settings-daemon," either as normal or super user, reboot, and get back my chosen original theme.

May 2, 2011I have assembled an "old" PC I want to attach to my 32" Sony TV. Mainly for browsing, watching videos, playing casual games. Is there a special Desktop theme suited for big screen ? In other words: Big icons, big text? Not sure if Unity helps out here. I would be willing to install another desktop manager (e.g. XFCE, KDE) than Gnome if it provides such features. Firefox for examples supports increased font size for browsing. For shell I've played around with guake and font sizes around 20 pix. It just would be nice to have "enlarged" menu entries.

Everything used to work fine but then the server ip changed and I can no longer access it with the web name and have to use the ip directly
I am using tortoise svn with vista on my work machine

OpenSUSE :: Display - Desktop Appearance And Theme Settings Not Working
Aug 14, 2011I've been trying to get familiar with this over the past 24 hours or so. I assume I've been somewhat successful in what I'm attempting to do, as I can work my way around a bit now and use some terminal commands. However, there is this display problem I seem to be encountering with certain windows which is extremely putting off. When I click options like 'File' or 'Edit' in a window, this is what I get. Here are the screenshots below.
This is what I get when I click the 'Volume' button in the Panel at the bottom of the screen. I have tried changing the Desktop Appearance Settings, Theme Settings but nothing seems to work. Although this is not a performance issue, it is hampering my vision of the various available options, and I would like to resolve it at once.

Ubuntu Unity Netbook Edition, the desktop just turns into a plain brown screen with nothing on it -- no icons, nothing. Sep 28, 2010For some odd reason, I cannot post on the ubuntu forum and the LinuxMint forum. Yea, I know.... the irony... I am using Mozilla and have tried Chromium, but that did not fix my problem. When I click on "submit" to post a thread, the page will just say "loading..." and nothing happens for a really long time. Does anyone know what is up? I tried posting on one other forum that I go to often and it seems to work out fine. I haven't tried any other forums though.

Jan 2, 2011Got a gigabyte ga-ma78g-ds3h mobo with an amd athlon dual core 5050e processor that occasionally causes this warning at post. Removed and replaced the processor but still occurs, possibly slightly less frequently so it might just be a bent pin and this will be tried again. However i am curious as to whether others have seen the warning in case it is software although i am assuming it must be hardware. I guess it could be a bios bug, the bios was updated about a year ago. Log files and system monitor confirm the missing cpu.
