Now the situation is: My laptop can connect to Internet (i.e. ping debian.org from laptop is fine), my desktop PC can connect to my laptop (i.e. ping 192.168.1.1 from desktop PC is fine). However, the desktop PC cannot reach the Internet.

It seems I must install and configure ebtables before sharing my wireless connection to ethernet port. Is it true? (But why the article on Ubuntu community doesn't mention it?) Or I just made some mistakes?
I have a Dell WLAN 1397 Half Minicard, 802.11 b/g card in my laptop, and I can't seem to get ubuntu to work with it. I tried this method:
1. Synaptic Pack Manager
2. Check "Install from Boot Disc"
3. Reload
4. Install and apply bcmwl-kernel-source
5. Reboot
This didn't work for me, so I tried entering sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source and that also didn't work. Another thing I tried is formatting my Ubuntu partition and reinstalling, and retrying both of those methods. The ethernet port does work, however.
i have an embbeded hardware that uses bootp for booting from a Network Managemnt Host (NMH)on the same ethernet. The embedded hardware has both kind of ports i.e ethernet as well as E1/T1. I would like ask, what do i require to establish a communication-link between the embedded hardware and the NMH throuh E1/T1 ports of embedded hardware, so as to make it boot through from E1/T1. Further, NMH possesses only ethernet port. Just to refine my questions i'd like to know what additions do i need to do on my NMH , like may be i have to put an E1/T1 port or is it possible that the E1/T1 port can be directly connected to an ethernet port on the other host.
pardon me if i am not making absolute sense here as my knowledge is limited on Layer 1 and layer 2.
After some fiddling around, I have come to the conclusion my current wifi access point hates my other computer's Broadcom chip or the drivers thereof. So, my current idea is as follows. I would like to use my netbook to connect to the wireless network, and then connect my other computer to it through ethernet. My netbook is dual boot XP and Ubuntu (think Ubuntu is a version behind) and I would be fine to set up this sharing in either and just leave it on as a repeater station. My other computer is dual boot XP and Fedora and I would prefer this work to allow me to have network in both. I have a straight-through cable and have verified that my network card supports the automatic crossing over behavior.

while my brother was browsing the web on my windows partition he had a blue screen pop up, one of the soft/hardware error ones, not a true BSOD, anyways, ever since my lan port on the computer seems to not be activiating as no wired connection is recognized. The lan port/card is directly attached to the Mother Board, it's a gigabyte motherboard in a self-build computer. I'm just wondering if there's anything I can do to troubleshoot this and see if it is truly a hardware problem or if its something else.

My question is , is it possible that when a connection is received on a port say 123, i redirect this connection to a different port and use the 123 port again for listening connections. ncat has an option -k which u can add with -l , it will force fully listen on the port. It can accept multiple connections on a single port but i want that once a client connects on to 123 port, he is forwarded to some other port and no longer on 123.

I have two ethernet connections and one wireless connection on my netbook. I want to share the internet connection that is going into one of the ethernet cards through the other ethernet card and the wireless card.
DSL-->1sr Eth --> 2nd Eth (currently works)
DSL-->1sr Eth --> Wireless Card (Adhoc) <--(connects with limited connectivity AKA no internet)
The 2nd Ethernet card already has working internet, but when I connect to the Wireless card (through an Adhoc network), it cannot get an IP (I believe).
I recently got a laptop computer and installed 64 bit fedora 11. I can make wireless connections fine but for my ISP I require a dial in using an username and password. On my desktop this is easy I just make a DSL connection under network manager and select eth0 my wired network card as the hardware and away I go. But now I can't select the wireless card as my hardware connection so my DSL keeps on trying to connect through eth0 which is obviously not plugged in. How do I go about making this connection? I have searched google and other people have this problem but I haven't seen any replies. I have tried using pppoe-setup and manually setting the hardware as wlan0 but this doesn't seem to work as under network manager it just defaults back to eth0.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI installed Fedora 14 yesterday via the installation DVD with 3,3 GB. Everything worked fine and when I connected to my wlan and entered the WEP key I got access to the internet. But after about 5 minutes, to connection just got cut and I was again asked for the WEP passkey. But when I entered it this time, the connection failed and I was just asked again (with the same key entered, it even got it saved from last time). As you can think, this is quite annoying, since the time I have internet is not even enough to get some updates done.
Ah, and by the way: The time I have internet it just is unbelievably slow. On my Windows partation, I don't have this problem. I do have a small hint what might be the problem: When I was using Ubuntu, I always had a similar problem, but it did not even connect to my wlan once. The solution was to blacklist some driver, but since I don't know if this might be the problem on Fedora too and if the drivers are the same as on Ubuntu and since I really have no idea about the syntax of the terminal here, I was not daring to try this out.
I can't figure this out for the life of me. I am new to Linux too. Wireless works fine. I plug my Ethernet in and turn off wireless and I cant surf the web, download, etc...Network Manager finds the wired network under eth0 and it works perfect on my non-linux desktop (nervous to even mention Vista around here). Firewall was set up with basic setup (I didn't make any changes). I have a Sony vaio VPCCW21FX with fedora 13. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I have put 10.04.1 386, 32bit, on a Toshiba C650 laptop. Took Win 7 off. Install seemed good. The only cd daily I could find was from August 16.I have a cdrom/dvd showing up but not much else. Currently I'm running Ubuntu 10.10, Kernel 2.5.35-29-generic. I have a Broadcom 4318 for my WLAN and a Broadcom 4401-B0 for my ethernet. I followed the tutorial and I managed to get packet injection working on my WLAN; however, my ethernet connection isn't working. I tried sudo modeprobe b44, but I get the following message:

I just fresh installed Fedora 11, and tried to connect via ethernet. I connected the cable and connection was started (in the network managed the two gray circled turned green) but then instead of connecting me the connection was aborted. I am behind a router if it helps and made sure eth0 is enabled. PS this is the output of "service network start":

I installed Fedora to a desktop with a hardwire ethernet connection to my router. When I ran the live CD it connected fine. When I boot now I have no connection, and when I try to connect I get this "AVC Denial" message and some mumbojumbo about SELinux is preventing nm-dhcp-client to read libdbus-glib blah blah blah. The troubleshooter app is no help to me at all. This is extremely frustrating. A couple of weeks ago I did an install to this same computer and had no problem at all. The only difference is that this time I wiped all of my old distros from the HD, and made separate /, /var, /boot, /tmp, and /usr partitions (in addition to the old /home partition which I kept.) I don't know how that could be causing this problem, but it's the only thing different about this install. Should I just go back to putting everything but /home on one partition?

Then, I was playing around with VPN for a good while (trying to set up the VPN connection to my University), and now, I suddenly lost my connection to the internet!
But only Fedora can't connect anymore, the Windows PC has connection as well as my Mac OS X (I dualboot Linux on my MacBook). The Ethernet connection works as well, when I unplug the cable, Fedora gives me a message, but I just don't get into the internet!
Does anyone have an ides what I have to do? I don't know anything about network connections and I'm new to Linux...
I already restarted the Computer, but that didn't work, and Google didn't really held either.
After using fedora 11 for a month or two now the ethernet gave out on me tonight. However if I switch to my ubuntu or windows XP install it runs fine. I made no recent changes to network connections, and no installed programs that should effect it.

I have tried, restarting, older kernel, restarting services, and clearing the DNS Cache. The specific error I get is that "Firefox can't find the server", and most other applications return similar. I can however ping websites still. All other computers on the network are running fine, and booting into another system the internet will work. Just not for fedora.
The GUI for network configuration of Fedora is marvellous such that the configuration is almost fool-proof. But how can I make the connection by hand in the command line mode? It goes okay except the very last step. When I disconnect the eth0 interface from the right-hand side of the desktop GUI, I tested how to bring it back by command line but I failed. When disconnected, the ifconfig still shows the eth0 interface, with just the ip address portion changed.
I tried "ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.xx" to give it an ip address but the connection is still down even if the ifconfig shows an ip address for the eth0 interface. Then I tried "/etc/init.d/network restart" and "ifup eth0" and also "route add defaut gw 192.168.1.1" but none of these could accomplish the same work as a single click on the GUI to connect. I am very curious about how to do it in the terminal.
I'm running an up-to-date Fedora 12 machine with the Gnome desktop (meaning with Network Manager). My network connection is a wired ethernet to a switch which then connects to a Netgear router. For some reason, this machine can't renew its leases with DHCP, so NetworkManager deactivates eth0, taking my machine off the network. I have to click Network Manager and enable eth0, which seems to work every time.
How can I fix it? Here are the relevant bits from /var/log/messages showing a failed DHCP request and then the successful renewal.

I have done this before on Windows however I am having some trouble doing this on linux, I have tried using Squid Proxy however I am having some trouble using configuring/using it.
I am using Yellow Dog Linux however I am willing to change to any other distro as long as it is compatable with PS3 (as this is what im using linux on)
I have two Desktops. Both running Fedora 9 and connected to each other with a crossover cable. I have a GPRS connection via a USB bluetooth Dongle. I can connect thru rfcomm on Kppp. Assigned static ip's 192.168.10.1/2 and can ping from one computer to the other. So far so good but now I want to share the internet connection between the two computers and run into a maze of gateways and DNS and iptables and am spinning around with no clues. Some of the things I do not understand are
1. What gateway does one assign when your computer directly connect to the internet through a GPRS and not through a NIC or router??
2. When I try to load the shared NFS folder, why does it say "could not load the location: internal error"?
3. Is there somewhere I could get a step-by step instruction??

My Intended Setup is as follows;
The Problem: So far I've not been able to get an internet connection from any computer connected to the HUB. I currenty have Fedora 13 on PC1 but have also tried with both Ubuntu 10.04 & Debian Lenny. I am open to using any Linux based distro on PC1 as long it has a Gnome Desktop. eth0 on PC1 can be Static or Dhcp, but I would prefer to set Static IPs on eth1 & all of the Client PCs
To the best of my knowledge I have enabled ipv4 forwarding in sysctl.conf (& some other changes);

I have my desktop computer (running F13) configured to accept ssh over port 22 via the firewall configuration tool. If I type ifconfig -a, this computer, which is running on my wireless network, tells me:

However, if I go to my laptop computer (also running F13) and try and ssh into the desktop, i.e. ssh icthy@192.168.1.100, I get this response:

I guess I am confused to what is blocking the connection? Is there another means on F13 other than the default Firewall? I haven't really messed with the network at all. For what it's worth, I am hoping to set things up so I can just ssh into the computer name, (ssh icthy@desktop) eventually, but want to start with the IP. So, can anyone offer a hint as to what I can look for that is blocking port 22?
