View 14 RepliesI just fresh installed Fedora 11, and tried to connect via ethernet. I connected the cable and connection was started (in the network managed the two gray circled turned green) but then instead of connecting me the connection was aborted. I am behind a router if it helps and made sure eth0 is enabled. PS this is the output of "service network start":
Quote:
[root@Gal-PC subsys]# service network start
Bringing up loopback interface: [ OK ]
Bringing up interface eth0:

I installed 10.3 (after buying it a couple of years ago and letting sit on the shelf) and can't get it to configure my ethernet connection or my wireless card. Yast doesn't include a list of available cards, and the error I get in installation-network setup is that the kernel isn't present. The machine I'm installing this on is a Lenovo, in which there isn't a discrete ethernet card (it's in the motherboard), but my wireless card (a Cisco LINKSYS 802.11G) is a discrete card. Because I'm divorcing Microsoft for a number of valid reasons, I don't have Windows available on that box.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI installed Fedora to a desktop with a hardwire ethernet connection to my router. When I ran the live CD it connected fine. When I boot now I have no connection, and when I try to connect I get this "AVC Denial" message and some mumbojumbo about SELinux is preventing nm-dhcp-client to read libdbus-glib blah blah blah. The troubleshooter app is no help to me at all. This is extremely frustrating. A couple of weeks ago I did an install to this same computer and had no problem at all. The only difference is that this time I wiped all of my old distros from the HD, and made separate /, /var, /boot, /tmp, and /usr partitions (in addition to the old /home partition which I kept.) I don't know how that could be causing this problem, but it's the only thing different about this install. Should I just go back to putting everything but /home on one partition?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed Fedora today, and I automatically had internet connection, I never had do configure anything myself. Then, I was playing around with VPN for a good while (trying to set up the VPN connection to my University), and now, I suddenly lost my connection to the internet!
But only Fedora can't connect anymore, the Windows PC has connection as well as my Mac OS X (I dualboot Linux on my MacBook). The Ethernet connection works as well, when I unplug the cable, Fedora gives me a message, but I just don't get into the internet!
Does anyone have an ides what I have to do? I don't know anything about network connections and I'm new to Linux...
I already restarted the Computer, but that didn't work, and Google didn't really held either.
After using fedora 11 for a month or two now the ethernet gave out on me tonight. However if I switch to my ubuntu or windows XP install it runs fine. I made no recent changes to network connections, and no installed programs that should effect it.
kernel version: 2.6.29.6-213.fc11

I have tried, restarting, older kernel, restarting services, and clearing the DNS Cache. The specific error I get is that "Firefox can't find the server", and most other applications return similar. I can however ping websites still. All other computers on the network are running fine, and booting into another system the internet will work. Just not for fedora.
The GUI for network configuration of Fedora is marvellous such that the configuration is almost fool-proof. But how can I make the connection by hand in the command line mode? It goes okay except the very last step. When I disconnect the eth0 interface from the right-hand side of the desktop GUI, I tested how to bring it back by command line but I failed. When disconnected, the ifconfig still shows the eth0 interface, with just the ip address portion changed.
I tried "ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.xx" to give it an ip address but the connection is still down even if the ifconfig shows an ip address for the eth0 interface. Then I tried "/etc/init.d/network restart" and "ifup eth0" and also "route add defaut gw 192.168.1.1" but none of these could accomplish the same work as a single click on the GUI to connect. I am very curious about how to do it in the terminal.
I'm running an up-to-date Fedora 12 machine with the Gnome desktop (meaning with Network Manager). My network connection is a wired ethernet to a switch which then connects to a Netgear router. For some reason, this machine can't renew its leases with DHCP, so NetworkManager deactivates eth0, taking my machine off the network. I have to click Network Manager and enable eth0, which seems to work every time.
How can I fix it? Here are the relevant bits from /var/log/messages showing a failed DHCP request and then the successful renewal.
Code:
Aug 1 04:00:08 ironton dhclient[12452]: DHCPREQUEST on eth0 to 192.168.1.1 port 67
Aug 1 04:00:08 ironton dhclient[12452]: DHCPNAK from 192.168.1.1

View 9 Replies View RelatedThe symptom is that NetworkManager repeatedly ask for password to connect to my AP.My AP is secured with WPA-PKI. The problem even happens with Fedora 11 live cd if I'm not quickly configure wireless connection using NetworkManager right after Fedora completes booting up. It means if I promptly configure wireless connection, i'm still able to access Internet. Same thing happens for the first boot of Fedora from hdd. For the second boot or when I dont quickly configure wireless connection when system finished booting up, NetworkManger repeatedly asks for password for AP.
I did try several approaches posted in this forum but problem still persisted. Some of approaches I tried are:

It's not a hardware or connection issue, as it works perfectly fine in Windows 7. I haven't had this issue in any previous version of Ubuntu (or any Linux distro for that matter). The weirdest part is I booted from the installation CD as as LiveCD, and everything worked perfectly fine. It only stops working after I actually install it. Here's the results of ifconfig:

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to set up a shared Internet connection that had been broken by a previous update, I believe. Eth0 is connected to the Internet, whereas eth2 should be the connection going to my Roku set-top box. Under the nm-applet icon, an entry exists for "Auto eth0" for the first card, but there is nothing under the second card except "disconnected". How do I make a connection entry under my eth2 card so that I can share my Internet connection with my Roku box?

When the ethernet network connected, it will go into the else loop at line no. 13. The system will send status and display the status at control panel screen. If at this point, the ethernet disconnected, it will go back to the if loop at line 1. The system will keep trying to connect to the network and keep loop the if loop until it is connected.
Question now is I need the system to test the connection too after going into the operation loop that is start from the line no. 47. If the system went into the for (int c=0;c<cCOL;c++), it will need to do all the operations as indicated by cCOL times before it exit that loop and go into the previous loop.
I need the system to detect connection everytime an operation is going to happen or ended and if there is no connection, it will trying to connect. Before it is connected, it will not continue the operations. I tried to put the function "Connect (szPort, szAddress)" into each loop. Yes, the operation stop everytime the network disconnected. However, it shows on control panel screen "New Connection...." everytime it execute the statement. In fact, the network never disconnected.
I tried to look at the Connect function code, it is as below, I cannot figure out any statement that can stop the appearance of that "New Connection...". It may be hidden at the library source code, it is too hard for a beginner to modify the library code.
Code:
int Connect (char *szPort, char *szAddress)
{
/* Set the remote port */
int port; /* port number */

I have a Sun server that could be only configured via serial interface. It has one serial port with a RJ 45 connector. Although my laptop has not serial interface. Is there a way to use C-Kermit or any software to establish a serial connection via the ethernet port. It should be some kind of virtual serial port that should transmit the information over the ethernet port, without encapsulating it in ethernet frames.
View 11 Replies View Relatedit is possible to tap off your phone lines with ethernet connectors. As an example. I take a phone jack in the bedroom, I splice off the line of the phone and insert an RJ45 connector along with the phone connector. Hopefully the line will be 4 wire. I can't imagine it would work with only 2 wire. I don't know for sure. Would that work?
My thoughts are the problems with the entire phone line connections. I know the phone line runs out of the house. Would it not work because of that when I attach a switch to it? If anyone has accomplished this or tried to, I would like to know. I'm guessing that the house would have to be pre-wired with CAT-5 because of collisions that can occur.
I'm trying to connect my newly installed CentOs 5.5 to the network. But although there is a cable connection that has worked well before with other distributions, the network configuration keeps telling me:"Determining IP information for eth0... failed; no link present. Check cable?"Here are the results of the /.getinfo network script:This is a university network that is working well for thousands of students, so the problem is not on the side of the network or the DHCP server. The wireless card is also not shown in the network configuration.
