Fedora Servers :: Use Dhcpd To Assign Vpn Clients Their IP And Configuration?

Jan 24, 2009

Is there a way to use dhcpd to assign vpn clients their IP and configuration?

I'd like to have dhcpd listen on br0 (already set as 10.0.0.1) so that devices conecting through eth1 and tap0 (should I be using tun?) will get the same address pool.

Fedora Servers :: Can't Install Dhcpd On F12/13?

Sep 26, 2010

I am trying to install dhcpd on my Fedora 13 VM. I'm using VirtualBox and I installed using the i686 image. I did yum update and everything was fine. When I do yum install dhcpd , I get the following error.

Quote:
Loaded plugins: presto, refresh-packagekit

No package dhcpd available.
Nothing to do

I also tried yum clean to clear cache but that didn't help either. I installed Fedora 12 in a different VM and tried but with no luck. Also tried installing using i386 DVD but same error. I should also mention that what I'm trying to do is that I'm trying to set up a relay agent on my Fedora gateway.

Fedora Servers :: CUPS And LPD Clients - Cannot Add Printer?

May 12, 2009

I'm working on CUPS server here now, I am new to the whole Fedora area, I'm starting to like it, tackling one service after the other. I have cups, which I don't recall installing but was there guess its a default. So I added a printer on my server, that was on a 10.0.1.1 block, added it as lpd://10.0.1.1/lab3printer. Ok that worked and printed from my server, but my problem is when other machines try to add the printer. I continue getting this problem
Alberto "recoverable: Network host '10.0.11.25' is busy; will retry in 30 seconds..."
On the computer it was added as printer lpd://10.0.11.25/alberto because my server has that IP and printer well named it alberto. I followed what this said with the xined.d [URL].

Fedora Servers :: Samba Will Not Allow Any Clients To Connect ?

- setup the samba shares
- have a samba user/passwd
- authentication = users
- punched in the samba stuff for firewall
- workgroup is set right

What the heck? I cannot get any client to connect. Not even the server machine can connect to itself through a client. What am I missing here???

Just for the record, I'm trying to connect to \SERVER:

The server is currently running FC14 (64 bit) and I'm in the process of updating all the clients nodes to the same OS. Currently, all the client nodes are running FC8 (32 bit) and are capable of mounting /home on the server. However, the one client node that I have updated to FC14 is having problems mounting /home. I can ssh to the node with no problem however I get the following message:

General :: Dhcpd Can't Create Dhcpd.pid Ubuntu 11.04 (natty)

I've found a lot of pages of how to fix the issue on older releases of dhcpd and ubuntu.

#> Can't create PID file /var/run/dhcpd.pid: Permission denied.

I have tried creating the file and giving it permissions to be accessed, but that isn't solving the issue. I tried to go through some of the older fixes, and one was really close to working but lacked the same folders as I have.

EDIT: one solution that worked was to use ln -s /var/run/dhcp3-server/dhcpd.pid /var/run/dhcpd.pid dhcpd3 -cf /etc/dhcp3/dhcpd.conf at0

Debian Configuration :: Dhcpd Server Behavior Seems To Have Changed In Squeeze?

Aug 9, 2011

I've been using dhcpd for address assignments to PCs for a very long time with no issues. I recently upgraded from lenny to squeeze and now dhcpd seems to have new behavior which I can't seem to change. Here's what I want to do. First, I have a simple situation and don't want to get involved with dynamic DNS updates. I have host statements for each of my PCs and a range statement for cases where I install a new device and don't yet have a host statement for it. Previously, I could discover the ethernet address for the new device from the dhcpd log and add a host statement with an address of my choosing for the new device.

I'd then restart dhcpd and do something like reboot the device or issue an ipconfig /renew statement on the new PC. What would happen is that the old dynamically assigned IP address would be NAKed and the device would do a DHCPDISCOVER, etc. and get the new IP address I specified in the dhcpd.conf host statement. In squeeze, this no longer works. The client asks for the old address it got dynamically and the server just says yes. I can't seem to find a way to get it to NAK the dynamic address and use the new address I've specified in the host statement. I'd appreciate any enlightenment on how this is now supposed to be done. Here's my simplified dhcpd.conf file:

authoritative;
log-facility daemon;
ddns-update-style none;

[code]....

Note that the address here was assigned based on a previous range statement and isn't consistent with the above config file.

Debian Configuration :: Assign Devices To Pci-stub

Apr 24, 2016

I'm trying to assign pci devices to pci-stub at boot before any of the kernel drivers can access it. I've successfully managed to do this on a Ubuntu system but I cannot get it to work on Debian. I've set pci-stub to load as a module in /etc/modules. I've then tried both these methods:

Add pci_stub ids=8086:100f to /etc/initramfs-tools/modulesSet GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="pci_stub.ids=8086:100f" in /etc/default/grub.

Both give the same result after updating grub/initramfs and a reboot: when I check "dmesg | grep pci-stub" I get:

Code: Select all[ 1.522487] pci-stub: add 8086:100F sub=FFFFFFFF:FFFFFFFF cls=00000000/00000000

The actual device id's are not claimed by stub. Same for lspci -v which shows that the devices are still using the kernel drivers.Again, this configuration works on Ubuntu. Also issuing the following commands successfully assigns one of the devices to pci-stub but I need it to work on boot before the kernel drivers load:

Code: Select allecho "8086 100f" > /sys/bus/pci/drivers/pci-stub/new_id
echo 0000:02:02.0 > /sys/bus/pci/devices/0000:02:02.0/driver/unbind
echo 0000:02:02.0 > /sys/bus/pci/drivers/pci-stub/bind

Debian Configuration :: How To Assign Specific Local IPs In Home LAN Using DHCP?

Apr 29, 2011

I have some beginner questions about DHCP, Avahi, and configuring a small home LAN.Suppose I have a dynamic IP address assigned by my ISP, which requires DHCP be enabled in my dsl modem/router/"firewall" [sic]. Suppose for simplicity I have just one PC behind the dsl modem.I think "enabling DHCP" in the modem/router means that a DHCP client runs on the router, which communicates with a DHCP server run by my ISP when I boot up a PC on my LAN. Is that guess correct? Can I get DHCP to assign a particular local IP, say 192.168.1.10 (which is not the one taken by the router--- for this discussion, let's say that is 192.168.1.0) to my PC each time I boot it up?

Now suppose I want to build a stand-alone firewall, so that my LAN will have the firewall and the first PC behind the modem, with the first PC virtually behind the firewall. By default, I think these will both have DHCP clients running which I need to configure properly. The firewall should also have a DHCP server which should control how local IP addresses are assigned, correct? I should try to arrange that the LAN has only DHCP server, only one NTP timeserver, only one DNS nameserver, correct?My first PC seems to have installed an autorun client called Avahi, which performs DNS multicast services and incorporates something called zeroconf which seems to have something to do with remote desktops, which I don't need and which is a potential security hazard. But it seems that Avahi is an intrinsic part of the KDE desktop and cannot be removed. Just want to be sure that Avahi can coexist comfortably with dhcp3-client, which is also installed on that PC. They perform different tasks, correct?If I can get the stand-alone firewall to work, I know I need to turn off the commercial firewall in the dslmodem/router/firewall device. Should I purchase a bridge and try to turn off the routing function also?

Ubuntu Servers :: Assign The Static IP Address Of Internet Connection

Jan 14, 2010

I was trying to assign the static IP address of my internet connection to my home server and managed to make a mess of it. I've configured the router to assign it the address every time but when I rebooted everything the server is cut off from the network completely (rather unfortunate with a headless server...). The only file I've edited on the server when trying to do this is /etc/network/interfaces, everything else network related is default. My intention in editing the file was to make the server accept the IP address assigned by the router since the router was already configured to assign the right one. I put in

Code: inet dhcp in the /etc/network/interfaces file, is that wrong? What is that line supposed to be?
