Fedora Servers :: Localhost Ties Up Port 80

Jul 25, 2009

I have an installation of Fedora 10 that has been running wonderfully for months, ever since I bombed my 9 installation trying to install Apache Tomcat (I really just wanted Apache, live and learn). I finally decided to brave the attempt to install Apache 2.2 again because I have a little more instruction to go by. Apparently not enough to deal with this snag though, at least not the way I want.

Install went fine, but I couldn't start the service. Following the error trail I found that it was binding IPv6 to port 80 and wouldn't allow any other ip or localhost to use it. I disabled IPv6, don't need it, I'll learn about it later.

Fedora :: Connect To The Localhost At Port 6667 Using Irssi?

Aug 18, 2010

I want to use bitlbee-irssi to IM using gtalk.. I have installed bitlbee and edited /etc/bitlbee/bitlbee.conf with

RunMode = ForkDaemon
User = bitlbee
DaemonInterface = 127.0.0.1
DaemonPort = 6667

Now when I try to connect to the localhost at port 6667 using irssi, i get the following error message saying it cannot connect to localhost port 6667

13:48 -!- Irssi: Looking up localhost
13:48 -!- Irssi: Connecting to localhost [127.0.0.1] port 6667
13:48 -!- Irssi: Connection to localhost established
13:48 -!- Error: bind: Permission denied
13:48 -!- Error: listen: Bad file descriptor
13:48 -!- Irssi: Connection lost to localhost

A similar looking error comes up when I try to telnet localhost at 6667. Also, I get a selinux warning saying SELinux is preventing /usr/sbin/bitlbee "name_bind" access .How do I check if bitlbee is listening to port 6667? Btw, I am using fedora 13, I have selinux running in enforcing mode and the firewall running. I have set the port 6667 in the other ports tab of "system-config-firewall" (I am hoping that this will open that port).

Fedora Servers :: Postfix Only Listening On Localhost ?

Oct 27, 2009

I am trying to get my own email server set up, and so far its been going pretty smooth, The only thing that is not working right now is receiving emails. I can send email just fine, and when they are sent they are even sent from the proper addresses, but when I try to send an email to my domain, it does not go through.

I have the port forwards set up on my router to send all traffic on port 25 over to my mail server, I can telnet to the smtp server from the localhost just fine, but when I try to telnet from another computer on my network it gives me this message

Quote:

So I ran a netstat -an on my mail server to see what ip address smtp is listening on and I get this result

Quote:

Now most guides I find for this problem just say to un comment the line in the master.cf that says "smtp inet n - - - - smtpd", the problem is that line is already uncommented and I am still not able to telnet to port 25 from any machine on my network.

Here is my main.cf, tell me if there is anything that I can do.

Fedora Servers :: Squirrelmail: Can't Access Localhost

Jun 1, 2010

I'm running Fedora 12 on x86_64. I've installed squirrelmail, along with dovecot on my office server, and cannot access it through http://localhost/webmail. I have followed all the configuration steps I could find (including http://www.server-world.info/en/note...12&p=httpd&f=7).

I know that everything else is working (I can send and receive mail, access IMAP mailboxes, webserver is working), browsing to

http://localhost/webmail

just gives me

"Problem loading page"

in Firefox. Sometimes, however the message is "Unable to connect."

I will add that I already tried installing Squirrelmail on another (i686) machine and had exactly the same problem.

/var/log/httpd/error_log says:

File does not exist: /var/www/html/squirrelmail

This makes it seem like aliasing is not working somehow.

General :: Localhost Port 25 Not Open ?

Nov 6, 2010

Made some network and hardware changes, and now I can't get the mailserver to work. It seems that sendmail can't loop to itself on 127.0.0.1. When I nmap localhost, I find that port 25 isn't open.

Naturally, nothing has changed on my system except for different routing, interfaces, etc.

So the question for sendmail gurus,is where should I be looking?

Debian Configuration :: How To Remove Package That Ties With Core Ones

Aug 7, 2011

I have this package dependency question for a while. I have brand new Squeeze system. I selected desktop during installation. Gnome is default system but I turned off gdm3 and uses fluxbox as window manager. I understand if two packages are tied together funtionally so that removal of either package terminates one feature. Above cases, many small packages only depends on the core packages. The core packages work fine without games, other programs.

There are so many programs that I want to remove in the system. For examples, ekiga is a VoIP program that I never use it. When I tried to remove it using apt-get or aptitude, it suggests entire gnome packages will be removed also, which is illogical. The only solution I found is I need to manually remove the package files. I haven't tried it yet.

Fedora Servers :: Can't Send My Outgoing Mail Using Port 587 / Why Is So?

Dec 10, 2009

I have installed a sendmail server on fedora 10
I try to configure my sendmail server as a mail server to send outgoing email using port 587( because port 25 is blocked). after finishing configuring my sendmail server, i checked out my sendmail server using telnet localhost 587, and it worked fine as below code...

I have tried two different ways for user name: name, or name@mail.mydomian.com, but not working at all, the two results are the same.
PS: I have test port 587 and can use port 587 and Kmail to send outgoing mail using other external relay server

is my wrong configuration for sendmail server or kmail?

Fedora Servers :: Syslog Listening On Port 514 For Both Firewall And IDS Logs?

Jan 17, 2010

Currently Im having a syslog server that consolidate firewall logs on port 514 udp. Im also having a IDS device that I wish to push its logs to this particular syslog server so that I can retrieve my IDS logs on this server as well.

Is it possible to do so?Having syslog listening on port 514 for both firewall and IDS logs? If it is possible will the logs be recorded in a single log file?Or will it be recorded in a separate log file ie. firewall.log, IDS.log etc?? I wish to have them in separate individual log files or else there will be hard time segregating the log entries in a single file. Can anyone advice on how to achieve this??

Fedora Servers :: Different MX On Port 25 From The Fedora Box And Each Time?

Jan 15, 2009

I have a Fedora 10 box I am using as a web development server. I have most everything working. I am trying to use sendmail as an MTA for sending out emails and I am having problems having the messages delivered. The error always comes up as connection timed out. I have attempted to telnet to many different MX server on port 25 from the Fedora box and each time I try I never get a connection.

This made me think that it might be something with ISP doing port filtering to prevent SPAM or something, however I can telnet to port 25 from different computer on the network. I also have stopped IPTABLES in an effort to try and resolve this issue and am still getting connections timed out.

I have run TCPDUMP while trying to telnet to port 25 to an MX server from the Fedora 10 server and all I see are out bound packets. I also explored the idea that I might of had some kind of weird routing issue on my firewall. I am currently using a Juniper NetScreen 5GT with an ANY/ANY outbound rule. I do not currently have SMTP open on the firewall as I am not planning on accepting mail here.

The best I can figure as telneting to port 25 from windows computers on the same network as the Fedora server works just fine, yet it does not work from the Fedora Server is that it must be some thing on the Fedora box itself, but I have no clue as to what I could be.

Ubuntu Servers :: Bind Phpmyadmin To Localhost Only?

Mar 18, 2010

Have basic LAMP setup on 9.10 box. I want to have a publicly accessible website AND I want to have phpmyadmin available. The only thing is I would rather not have the phpmyadmin interface available on the internet. I usually open a ssh port forwarded tunnel when I need to use phpmyadmin on this server. I want to add a directive to make phpmyadmin bind only on localhost. I have found the phpmyadmin config file in /etc/apache2/conf.d

phpmyadmin.conf -> ../../phpmyadmin/apache.conf

I have tried adding some LISTEN directives, but apache does not like my directives-- I am obviously not doing it right. I have looked for a bit on the internet and can't find out how to disable external access to a configured site in Apache.
