I know that the question is as old as yum, but still I can't find solution. There is package-cleanup tool, which supposed to do the job with "--leaves" key, but it doesn't seem to work. Right now I have F12 installed. I installed rosegarden with `yum install rosegarden`. Then I removed it with `yum remove rosegarden`. If I understand right, `package-cleanup --leaves` must show all of 12 dependencies that was installed with rosegarden, but it shows none of them (although it shows few packages). Is this a bug? For years I used Ubuntu and Debian and I was completely satisfied with apt.
how to non-destructively convert a FAT32 HDD into something generally better like NTFS or Ext2/3/4 and etc? Also, what filesystem would you recommend?

I've found a couple suggestions to make the drive 'forget' that it is a RAID drive by "zeroing out their md superblocks", but I don't know enough about superblocks to know if this is destructive or not. I used this guide to create my RAID-1 and it is working fine. This is my current setup:

Do I need to boot from a live CD and perform the same commands on an unmounted filesystem?
These should be my last pleas for help with regard to Fedora 13. I've been unable to turn off the notifications that appear in the top right corner, despite a decent amount of searching on google. I can't remove any notifications package without removing a bunch of important software along with it. Also, F13 refuses to "Safely Remove" either of my external disks. I have to yank out the usb cord, touching wood each time.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a linux server with RHEL5.4 which has a pkg which is not properly installed. I have been asked to remove the pkg so they can re-install it properly but it fails at %postun.
this is what I get:

I'm trying to re-install tomcat6 after removing it and all it's dependencies, but it got corrupt when trying to re-install. I'm on Ubuntu Sever Lucid 10.04 LTS with command line only.
I started with:

Then I deleted the /etc/tomcat6 directory manually since it contained file settings I didn't want. I assumed it would automatically install the missing files.
Then I tried re-installing tomcat6 as follows:

How are you supposed to completely remove a package and re-install it normally?
I need to remove libgl1-mesa-swx11, as after I installed it, it has slowed down all my graphics. However, in SPM, it says in order to remove it, I have to remove most of my system, it seems as though it's "dependencies" involve everything to do with graphics, which I was running fine and much better before. So, how do I remove this package without removing dependencies?

View 4 Replies View RelatedIn an attempt to minimize my system when I mark for removal libcups2 using synaptic it asks to install 7 not authenticated packages, however if I choose mark for complete removal it asks to install the same 7 packages and remove every single installed package from epiphany to gimp to zenmap. Any ideas as to whats going on with that?

Has anyone had this issue? Tonight, when I started KMail I got a crash of the Akonadi maildir resource agent. Everything was fine in the morning, I didn't change anything or mess about, just a normal session.The crash report will go away if I close it 5 times or so. I have seen the problem in a couple of fora, apparently the best workaround is to rename the relevant file in /usr/bin (the file named akonadi_maildir_resource). Kmail is now functioning properly (I gather it is not yet fully integrated with Akonadi, so it shouldn't matter too much). I would like to know if anyone else has had this problem, and any solutions you might have.
I tried submitting a bug report via the automated process; unfortunately, when I tried downloading the debug tools I got stuck on an error in downloading the repo data from the update repository:

I used mail_uid and mail_gid in dovecot.conf to set the permissions, I'm not using local system accounts, instead accounts specified in MySQL. I can dump all the output of doveconf if requested.

The ../cf/cf/sendmail-slackware-tls-sasl.mc config file has Procmail sorting as:

I don't understand the arguments ($), but know the -Y forces mbox. The /var/mail directory is hardlinked to where ever the spool directory is. I want the Dovecot MDA server to use NFS or UNFS to grab user's mail from the MTA/LDA Server. Problem is the hardlink. Can't nfs share a hardlinked directory.
Is there a way to change the MTA sendmail mc config file above to have LDA promail send to /home/mail, so I can nfs that directory? And preferably in MAILDIR format? BTW: I can't find any procmailrc config file on this Slackware Server. I should have all the settings in my /etc/mail/sendmail.cf config.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently made the migration from mbox to maildir.I use postfix, spamassassin, dovecot for imap and procmail for delivery.I made the changes for Maildir to postfix main.cf, dovecot's dovecot.conf and procmail's procmailrc.All good, working well.Just noticed though, that mail marked as spam and filtered by procmail to be put in the users ~/Maildir/.spam/new folder are owned by root. Not allowing the users to even see it (600 perms)
So postfix sends all mail to Procmail:
mailbox_command = procmail -a "$EXTENSION"
But not all mail is effected, only mail picked up by this receipe in the /etc/procmailrc:

I'm using 'Adobe Flash plug-in 10.3.183.4ubuntu0.11.04.1', installed from the package repos on kubuntu, and since the last update, it has broken all flash functionality in both rekonq and firefox.I have tried removing and reinstalling the package multiple times, both with and without the browsers open. Can anyone suggest a way to restoring functionality?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI configured my server to have the virtual mail authenticated and stored through mysql DB.Now the authentication works, but then I got the dreaded -ERR chdir error.After research and testing for ohurs I finally got it working on ONE account after I created the maildir with maildirmake.Now I am able to login and "list" messages, but nothing else. When I use postfixadmin to setup a new user, the maildir does not get created so I have the same problem.I'm trying to troubleshoot what is happening.Here are the relevant config files:

I got a weird postfix setup question? This is a separate server to the one I posted about earlier today.
I need to setup a postfix server which will accept emails for local know address (full addresses) and deliver them straight to the users maildir.
Any unknown addresses (however for the same domain), needs to be relayed to another server.
This is a bit of a special setup as there is no fixed Internet connection to the server. So the plan is that local email get delivered straight away whilst emails to the same @domain, but that doesn't exist in the user tables get put in the hold queue and is later relayed to server number 2 when a connection is available.
I am using mysql to retrieve all my settings into postfix.
I know a bunch of commands and I am comfortable using the terminal, I even set a powerpc server but I can't figure out how to remove epiphany on this new computer I'm setting up. I didn't install anything with tasksel. I installed gnome and xorg afterwards... I load it up and 'startx' just fine. then I check around for the programs that were installed. I lik'em gimp, lot's of utilities. gedit. anyway I find epiphany, which I have already established that I dislike, I immediately go to the root terminal (another nice program that comes with gnome) and type apt-get remove epiphany-browser-data the output says it will be deleting gnome... however I have researched and found these are simpy meta packages that don't really matter.... however under the section that states all the packages that will be removed by autoremove there is a huge list... I doubt these packages are safe to remove. how to remove epiphany without removing a huge amount of probably needed software
View 14 Replies View Relatedwhat i did was, remove evolution mail from synaptic, what i wanted to do was just remove the indicator applet from the task bar. i read a bunch of bad stuff about removing evolution from synaptic vs just removing the applet.
im worried. did i break anything or put my security at risk. after, i used a command (older) (sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop)to install ubuntu desktop. because i thought that it would fix evolution. then i went to synaptic and installed a package called evolution. i rechecked evolution in applications menu. however, i notice that i have both a checkable evolution and two evolution icons. nothing 'seems' broken. im not sure if it ever was. and evolution calender pops up as normal, as does the the installed plain evolution. they both seems to be an exact copy of the other.
all i really wanted to do was remove the indicator applet. did i make a serious mistake. since ive had ubuntu, ive reformatted a lot because i was worried i made a mistake of some kind. however now im into the more "make a mistake and fix it stage' as im pretty happy with my current desktop and have worked hard to customize it. the command, sudo apt-get remove indicator-messages removed the mail icon. i still am worried that i broke something, or put my security at risk. also, now i have two mail icons. evolution mail and calendar, and another just called evolution.
Sometimes i have on some magazines or Internet Zip packages that are the answer of what i am looking for.
Wich tool and how can i do it? c Well, i am in position to say that i had downloaded from Internet or located the package in the Cd or DVD that comes with the magazine.
But now comes the big question. How can i put this package ( install) on my distro ???
Do i have to be a normal user or should it be root or su (superuser) ?
The packages that come with the distro is easy, because i select them and everything is done
As i told before, maybe this is a silly question, but i simple don't know how to install them and i need some of them to leave MS for good.
Fedora 12 64bit. Is there an easy and reliable way to install *.tar.gz package after extraction? Instead of going through ./configure etc.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm running a Debian LAMP server and I am adding postfix. The initial config is working and I can send and receive mail both locally and over the WAN. The problem is that I cannot get mail delivered to the user's home directory using Maildir/. I have set the:home_mailbox = Maildir/ parameter in main.cf but mail still goes to /var/mail after Postfix reload. The system is now using Maildir/ instead of mbox but in /var/mail. I really want to get mail into the user's home directory.

I've recently spent a lot of time (read weeks) pruning my music collection, basically by hand. and now I'm moving on to my family photos. Most of the work with the music was done under Windows XP. As for the photos, I have a fantastic Windows application, D'Peg, that I had actually purchased some years ago. This app rocks for Windows. In my opinion it's so good that I would happily pay double the asking price. However, I'd prefer to use Linux if possible, so, what's out there, anything that is worth it's salt? Currently playing around with Picasa.

What would haven if i removed the gnome desktop elements? Would it function and only be a single boot kde system? Or would it kill the whole thing?
