View 3 Replies(Ubuntu LTS 10.4) I have multiple mail accounts on Thunderbird (TB). All worked fine with no issues whatsoever. A few months ago it suddenly started giving me this alert message related to my yahoo.fr pop3 account
Quote:
The POP3 mail server (pop.mail.yahoo.fr) does not support UIDL or XTND XLST, which are required to implement the ``Leave on Server'', ``Maximum Message Size'' or ``Fetch Headers Only'' options. To download your mail, turn off these options in the Server Settings for your mail server in the Account Settings window.
Obviously I checked if these settings were somehow changed. They weren't. It should leave messages on the server indeed, but I don't use no max message size or fetch headers only options. The original settings are what they used to be and how they have always worked.
The thing is: everything works normal if I start up TB. It downloads the messages, puts them in the folders where I want them to come etc... The problem seems to appear after a while (mostly a few hours, or overnight). It just stops downloading the messages from my yahoo.fr account. When I click the Get Mail for my yahoo account the above alert message pops up.
There is only one solution really. Close TB and restart it after which all works fine again.
It might be that the problem is related to another issue reported as bug # 689453 in launchpad that started around the same time (a few months ago). That bug forces me to have to end the process through the System Monitor where Thunderbird-bin uses almost 100% of the CPU and doesn't shut down.
Obviously it doesn't avoid me from using TB, but it starts to work on my nerves to have to close down TB (sometimes through the End Process in system monitor) and then restart it so frequently.
Everyday i initiated a download on my ubuntu pc and lock the screen and leave, i notice that the internet connection gets cut within 10 to 15 mins after i leave. I am connecting to internet via reliance data card - usb modem. what are the odds of my ubuntu responsible for this ?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell E6500 with and Intel 5300 wireless agn card running Lucid x64. Wireless works fine and speeds are great except when I download with either the browser or thru a torrent or even updates. Once I get to around 100 megs in to the file wireless stops working and the only way to get it working again is to disconnect and reconnect to the AP. I have installed the back ports and tried several other fixed to get this to work but nothing has helped. One more note this happens on 2 other wireless routers that I have tried so I know that it's not limited to my Linksys.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently came back to Ubuntu after a long hiatus. In the last week I've installed and re-installed 10.10 several times getting things the way I want them. Although I've installed on 3 different machines and updated them all almost completely, I'm having a problem downloading the package "openoffice.org-core" On every install on all 3 machines it stops at exactly 20.5 MB out of 27.3 Is anyone else having this problem? I'm thinking it is an issue with the repo, unless someone can think of something I'm possibly missing. This problem has been continuous over the last week, isn't a temporary connection issue.

View 4 Replies View RelatedNote: Not upgraded yet, still using Ubuntu Lucid Lynx.Recently I've had a strange problem with my internet connection. When downloading something I am unable to use the internet with other net clients. An example, this morning I was downloading a very large set of backup files from an online server where I store backups. The files totalled 1.5 GB and I was downloading them using a SFTP client called FileZilla - during the download I was UNABLE to access the internet using Firefox, pages did not load at all - NOT slowly, but NOT at all, the "can't find the server" message was displayed by Firefox.LikewiseThunderbird was not able to check/download email. Confirmation that no internet access (other than FileZilla) was possible was shown by trying to 'ping google.com', the response "ping: unknown host google.com". During all this FileZilla was downloading very happily and quickly and as soon as the downloads finished everything worked as normal.
The problem is not limited to FileZilla, when downloading a file with Firefox the same problem occurred. It is as if when downloading something all other net connections are put on hold including DNS lookups. In the past my internet connection might slow down as a result of downloading but I'd still be able to access the web and email just slower as a result of the download. This problem has only started happening in the last week or thereabouts.
I was downloading the Android SDK when, mid download, I lost my internet connection. Now I cannot connect to the internet via hardwire connection. I can still connect on Vista, and I can connect via wireless, but I cannot have a hardwired connection.
I was following these instructions [URL]
I've been tinkering around with Linux over the past couple weeks. I've played arodn with both Ubuntu 10.10 and Linux Mint 10 and it's been a 99% positive experience. I have noticed an issue regarding my internet connection.
I've noticed when I download a file in Ubuntu (either from the software manager, BitTorrent or just a regular download in Firefox), browsing the web on my computer becomes near impossible. The download itself runs at a good speed for our DSL connection (around 200 KB/sec) but anything else near a standstill. Just loading ESPN.com on my PC can take a minute or two. Someone else playing a game in the house will go from a regular 100-200 ms ping to 5000+ right when the download starts. When I stop the download, internet browsing and gaming speeds go right back to normal.
The weird thing is the same thing happened when I installed Linux Mint 10. When I boot into my Vista partition, this isn't an issue. Downloading a file in Vista doesn't affect anything, but it's happening every time in both Ubuntu and Linux Mint.

My concern is to get only one copy, not many copies of the same file and not abled to find out where it's actually downloading.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just recently erased my hard drive and installed ubuntu 9.10 all over again. I updated as expected and everything was going well, until, my internet stopped working after maybe 40 mins or so after a successful boot. Now this same thing happens every 40 mins and I have to reboot the computer by forcing my laptop to shut down by holding down the power button. This also made me aware of another problem when restarting or logging off my laptop. The laptop hangs at that terminal-syled screen and the underscore blinks and fails to shut the computer down/log off. I resort to holding down the power button to restart. I am using a wireless connection with WEP key protection.
Atheros network chip
Laptop Acer Aspire 5532
It just happened again..... I am typing now in tomboy notes....
Time to restart again......
I also try to open terminal and it fails to function (after the internet stop working), any reason for that? I would also like to note that the signal strength decreases as time passes by.......
Internet connection has been very unstable on my system latley. Think it was because of last update.
Basically for example i watch a video on ..... and it never fully loads. Even when i browse pages dont fully load and i must wait a few seconds before i press reload.
I am connected through cable. Network is working fine on other OS
My PC is connected to an modem (DHCP) with IP 192.168.1.21 on eth0 Internet works perfectly I have installed an additional LAN card and configured it as eth1 with IP of 192.168.0.1 When I connect this LAN card to a LAN switch which in turn is connected to 6 other PCs, the internet stops working. As soon as I switch OFF the LAN switch, I am able to access internet. The IP addresses of the other PCs are configured as 192.168.0.2 etc. with gateway as 192.168.0.1 and DNS same as the DNS on the external interface. I can ping 192.168.0.1 from the LAN but neither LAN nor the main PC can access net. I was planning to Masquerade and NAT the other computers without using squid
My setup is as follows
ISP - Modem(192.168.1.1) - Ubuntu desktop 9.04(external interface eth0 192.168.1.21 & internal interface eth1 192.168.0.1) - switch - LAN (comprising of Ubtuntu 9.04, 9.10, 10.4 & XP machines with IP 192.168.0.2 - 8 and gateway of 192.168.0.1) I did NAT as per [URL]
This worked perfectly well 1 day Next day onwards whenever the LAN switch is "ON" the main Ubuntu wudnt get internet and the internet connection would work only when the LAN switch is turned "OFF". Even if all the PCs in LAN were to be switched off, the main Ubuntu would behave similarly i.e. internet would work only when switch isn't connected to it or switched off.
I've installed Fedora 10 Gnome from DVD. How do I let yum and "Add/Remove Software" first check the DVD before downloading packages from the Internet?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a very simple php web application deployed on linux (centOS4) machine. It creates a file and stores the file in /tmp folder on my linux machine. The path for this file is specified in the href attribute of the link. Ideally when we click this link the download manager should pop up so that the file can be downloaded on client machine.
When i access this website remotely from my window xp machine on firefox it downloads the file properly but when i run on internet explorer (i have IE7 on my windows XP) and click the link, the download manager does'nt pop's up. even when i right-click that link and select save as, an error message pop's up saying "file path not found". possibly IE is not able to determine the linux file path .so how do i work around this. is there some specific way for specifying the linux file paths to be downloaded by IE?
This holds true in Transmission and NOT in Vuze. UPnP is enabled, ports are randomized and open each time. Pings to outside still work fine, but I cannot browse to websites (404 errors) when the app is running. I'm stumped, is Transmission locking all other in bound traffic/ports except the one it wants to use?
View 2 Replies View RelatedNot sure if I've listed the specs of this machine before, so I'll do it again. 'm running an HP Pavilion 760n with 512MB of RAM and (I think?) a Pentium III processor... not sure on that one right now. It's currently running a laptop version of Ubuntu 10.04.I went to log into my online classes tonight only to find that the computer wasn't responding at all. I did a hot shutdown and restarted it, and now the system isn't detecting the internet connection at all. It should be noted that the connection was working perfectly fine earlier today, perhaps 6 or 7 hours ago.I know it's something to do with my computer and not my router, as I'm on my wireless network from a Windows 7 laptop and it's connecting just fine.
In viewing another thread,..lems+-wireless, I found a bunch of commands that it was said would be helpful diagnosing this issue. That said, below is the output of all the commands that I could think of.
Sudo ifconfig -a

inet addr:192.168.2.1 Bcast:192.168.2.255 Mask:255.255.255.0

Im having problems with Ubuntu 10.04. My wireless disconnects frequently and firefox seems to stop working. it seems the connection times out sometimes when firefox stops. other times the connection just disconnects. When I was running 9.04 everything worked and nothing disconnected, so I know its not my computer.
My laptop is an IBM t40, 1.4 ghz, 2gig of ram.It does not seem to mater if Im using the wireless or the wired connection. The problem happens either way.does anyone have a solution for this?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a wireless cable modem/router and a PCI-E 1x wireless card in my desktop PC. It works perfectly until I connect my Ethernet cable to my local router and printer, no more internet connection. I am guessing there is a setting somewhere that tells the networking software that the hard wire connection is the primary internet gateway. How do I tell it to use the wireless as the primary gateway?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Linksys AG300 "Adsl gateway" router/modem. When I download files with Iceweasel, the connection to the internet drops out (the internet connection light goes off, downloading stops). It's been happening for a while with Etch (and whatever version of Iceweasel Etch has), but I've today installed Lenny and it is still happening in Lenny.
My ISP said it could be a problem with the phone line because my computer is connected to an extension, but it does not happen at all if I download with Opera, and I would have thought that the browser wouldn't matter if it was the phone line or something in the router/modem. I'm not that fussed because I can use Opera to get my downloads, and the new version of Iceweasel will let you continue on if the download stops so all is not lost if it stops (it's just annoying). I'd be interested if anyone has any ideas as to why this happens. It seems to be an "Iceweasel thing".
im using fedora 14 and i have a slow internet connection. i want 2 install some packages from the fedora 14 dvd instead of downloading from internet using add/remove packages. i tried to edit /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora.repo and /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora-updates.repo but it dint work.
View 2 Replies View Relatedmy netbook (running 10.10) has recently decided to only work with my wireless for a short while after connecting. After this time, it just won't load a page at all, but remains connected to the router. Disconnecting then reconnecting to the network allows me to use the internet again, but only for a short while. This is a recent problem, and the netbook used to "just work" with wireless.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSorry title should have been F13 installation without internet I am having a P4, 1GB ram, 80 GB machine. Since yesterday I am having some funny issues on this machine. i have fedora 12 installed on this machine.
My mouse suddenly stop working, or the cursor changes from pointer type to a line cursor and basicaly the mouse just stops clicking. I am plannning to install fedora 13 on this machine. Have downloaded the 5 iso (
CD images).
Would choosing the option upgrade on existing Linux partition do the job? Is there a chance I loose my data files when the upgrade is done? I dont want to reinstall programs like java, eclipse, tomcat etc that I done in fedora 12. I only intend using the CD's as I dont have a lot of bandwidth and a fast internet connection to use yum.
I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat 64-bit on my desktop with a wired internet connection (with no firewall). For the past 2 days, I have observed that1. Firefox randomly throws up errors like "Problem loading page" whenever I click on a hyperlink. When I click on Reload, the page loads up just fine. This has been happening a lot recently..and I do not remember updating anything consciously. By the way, ipv6 is disabled in Firefox.2. The network stops working all of a sudden (usually indicated by the Firefox error). The Autho Eth0 indication is active, but I am unable to connect to any external machine.
3. Needless to say, this error is manifesting itself in apt-get as well. I get "something wicked happened" errors all the time, and am unable to download or install anything. That this is not a problem with the ISP is obvious because I also have Windows (from which I'm typing this, ironically), which is able to access the internet. Is this a bug in Ubuntu 10.10?
Sometime after I upgraded to ubuntu 9.10 I've been having trouble with my wireless network connection. It will usually log on to the network, then disconnect a shortly after. Then try to connect again, usually successfully, then it cuts off again. Then connects again, then disconnects. FWIW, ubuntu 9.10 works on a different machine pretty consistently, so I don't think its a problem with the router.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI know apt-get has a switch to make it download only. Then, I guess the packages can be installed later using dpkg -i ? But...
Where are the packages put when using apt-get to download only? Can I specify where to put them when I use the apt-get command? What if there are required packages to meet dependencies?... are they stored in the same place automatically? If I install later using dpkg, do I have to explicitly install the dependency packages or will they be pulled in from the same directory automagically at the time of install?
