Fedora Networking :: Firefox Says "Firefox Can't Find The Server?

Sep 8, 2009

This is really odd - all of a sudden, my firefox says "Firefox can't find the server at www.google.com" , and my pidgin will not connect saying host not found.However, I am typing this on the same computer using Opera. his is absolutely insane. I have no idea what caused it.. command line nslookup works great, and resolves everything.But firefox and pidgin will not resolve anything.

The only odd thing is this in messages:
Sep 8 12:07:41 tklaptop NetworkManager: nm_ip4_config_add_nameserver: assertion `nameserver != s' failed
Sep 8 12:07:41 tklaptop NetworkManager: nm_ip4_config_add_nameserver: assertion `nameserver != s' failed

Fedora Security :: Firefox Browser Cannot Find Server

Jan 10, 2010

Browser can't find server at att.yahoo.com so no internet. My folding at home client with Stanford can't download {an upload went ok}. I have 2 other fedora boxes & 3 windows boxes thru the same router and they are all fine.

I can manually ping Stanford ok,
Add/remove software within fed. works ok.
I can type in 192.168.0.1 & get the page for my router
The only thing I did between working & not working was to install
Nvidia Cuda driver for my GTX275

My guess is something in the firewall got tweaked. but I've compared it to 2 working boxes & nothing jumps out at me.

I have just installed Fedora 15 and Firefox cannot find the server. I do have internet access, can use yum, can ping google.com, and can use google Chrome to access the internet OK. Any thoughts? It is not any big problem, since I can use Chrome, but just wondering what the problem might be with Firefox.

OpenSUSE Network :: Firefox Can't Find The Server

Mar 1, 2011

I've gotten this in the past with other PCs, but have been able to fix it by deleting my connection in Network Manager and recreating it. I'm using DHCP. This is OpenSUSE 11.3 on a HP Mini-110 Netbook.Here's the weird part, before anyone starts sending me to resolv.conf or asking for "lspci" stuff. When I'm in a terminal on this netbook, I can enter "host google.com" and it works. I can enter, "host download.opensuse.org" and it works fine. I get an IP address. If I manually enter the IP address in Firefox, I go to the site. But if I enter "www.google.com" in Firefox, it very quickly responds with, "Firefox can't find the server at google.com.""Browse Offline" isn't checked. (Think about it: if it was, I couldn't enter the IP address and go to a site, anyway.) This is a brand new install of OS 11.3, Firefox 3.6.6. But one other interesting thing: the software updater reported that common "curl" error, saying that IT couldn't resolve the addresses, either.

Fedora Networking :: Connecting To FTP Error "Failed To Execute Child Process "/usr/lib/firefox-3.5/firefox" (No Such File Or Directory)"

Aug 3, 2009

I am running F11 and I want to mount an FTP, but when I try to connect to an ftp server using Places -> Connect to Server, or the bookmarks I made I get an error that says 'Failed to execute child process "/usr/lib/firefox-3.5/firefox" (No such file or directory)' and sometimes it mounts anyway, but most the time it doesn't, and it never connects to the folder I asked it to, I just have to open the mount and navigate to it. I figure this happened because Firefox upgraded to 3.5.1 and the folder is now /usr/lib/firefox-3.5.1/firefox, but I don't know how to update this so that it looks in the right location.

Fedora :: Can't Find Libnpjp2.so For Firefox

Jul 1, 2010

I'm trying to get the java plugin to work in F13 with Firefox 3.6.4. Looking in the forum it seems I need to make a symbolic link to libnpjp2.so in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins (the last time I did this in linux was a long time ago and it was the libjavaplugin_oji.so)

I have java-1.6.0-openjdk and the java-1.6.0-openjdk-plugin both installed on my system 32-bit) but I can't find libnpjp2.so anywhere on my system with "locate" or in any of the "java" folders (/usr/lib/jvm etc.)

Fedora :: Firefox Won't Find Most Sites From Fedora 11/12/13

Jul 7, 2010

After upgrading to a new release (Fedora 12, for example), I can no longer reach most of the Web through my browser (Firefox) or mail client (Thunderbird). I've tried running a Live! installation, installing clean from a DVD, and running preupgrade from my working Fedora 10 system, always with the same result -- I can reach a few of the Fedora pages (main, documentation, some others), but nothing else (Google, for example).

What's maddening is that I know I have a good connection, because I can perform a software update, install new software, etc., but only strictly Fedora-related activities; also, I can ping www.google.com and get a good response, so I know the DNS services are working to some extent. But neither Firefox nor Thunderbird can use them in any useful way.

Red Hat / Fedora :: Firefox Will Only Show 'server Not Found'

Jul 29, 2010

I have a laptop with Redhat 5 installed and a Windows 7 Virtual Machine. The laptop is connected to the internet but I cant access any web pages in firefox - it just comes up with Server Not Found (tried all different sites). I know the internet connection is good as if i go into my windows VM firefox works normal. Ive checked the network settings and tried setting to 'no proxy' and automatically detect but nothing seems to work. Ive uninstalled and reinstalled firefox and still get the same.

Ive tried both wired and wireless but makes no difference. Seems really weird that it works in the Windows VM but not in Redhat which its booting into.

Fedora Networking :: Firefox Won't Start With Trickle

Jan 16, 2010

The following page suggests that trickle should work with Firefox for controlling up/download bandwidth, but I can't get it to work. Attempting to launch it via the shell script or directly with the firefox executable

trickle -d 128 -u 56 firefox
trickle -d 128 -u 56 /usr/lib/firefox-3.5.6/firefox

fails; firefox just never comes up. Both wget and ktorrent work with limited bandwidth via a similar command, although ktorrent always crashes after a short while (only with trickle), so trickle itself would seem to be okay. I'm running Fedora 12, up to date via yum, with kernel.org kernel 2.6.32.2. I think I must be missing something obvious, but I thought I'd ask if anyone else has this working before beating on it for too much longer.

Fedora :: Firefox Can Not Connect To Anything - 'proxy Server Refusing Connections'

May 11, 2011

I use Fedora 14 and Firefox as my web browser. I use Astrill VPN service. I have the following persistent problem: I start my computer. Astrill is not set to start on boot. I start Firefox. Firefox can not connect to anything, it says 'proxy server refusing connections'. I go to Edit>Preferences>Advanced>Network>Settings I click the radio button 'no proxy'. The problem remains. I am completely unable to connect to the net. Even on reboot, I cannot connect. On reboot, Firefox is set to use a proxy, although it was not on shutdown. Some init script is setting this. My normal connection is often faster than through Astrill, so I only really need to use it when I want to get at a website that is blocked by the govt here in China.

where Firefox is being told to use a proxy, and how to reset it to not use a proxy, assuming Astrill is not active. There must be something left in a .conf file somewhere which is overriding the settings in Edit>Preferences. Because, if I set it now to 'no proxy', I cannot connect to the net.

Networking :: Only Firefox Fails To Connect In Some Networks Using Fedora 14?

May 23, 2011

In all but one place my HP Pavilion laptop running Fedora 14 will work flawlessly to use the Internet for e-mail, ftp, http, etc. In one network there is a wireless router - Cisco/Linksys E3000 - that allows every computer to use the Internet normally for wireless or for wired connections, every computer but mine. If I use Google's Chrome I can access the Internet. I can ping any web site too, but the moment I try to access anything with Firefox 3.6.17 there is a long delay and the standard error page appears. Weather or not I use a wired connection is apparently irrelevant.The Windows 7 computers in the same network are free of this curious problem. Strangely I have noted a problem like this, possibly the same problem, with another network at a coffee shop and they both share the misfortune of using AT&T, which is proud to not support Linux ... for customers of course (it's good enough for themselves I'm sure)
