I am running Fedora 13 Gnome. When I try to create a VPN connection using Network Manager (vpnc) it says that it cannot save the connection and exits out. I can provide other information if necessary.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just removed ubuntu-desktop in favor of kubuntu-desktop. Now I can't create an ad-hoc wifi connection however hard I tried from network-manager. It simply is not visible to other PCs. And when some connection is created on another ubuntu PC, I can't connect to it.. I switched NM off and tried the CLI way.

Under DSL tab in network connection we can create DSL connections, but they only allow wired connections(eth0). I need to connect using wireless connection(wlan0). I migrated to Ubuntu recently. With windows I was able to connect with wireless connection. I'm sure there is a way to achieve this in Ubuntu as well.

What I want to do is to share the internet connected to a computer with a telephone, over another telephone which is permanently connected to the pc.The thing is, that some guys found a way of making this on windows, in fact, I already set it up on xp and works like a charm, it involves configuring in a certain way the telephone, and to use 2 programs. One is CCProxy, which redirects the internet connection to the telephone, and another one, which updates the IP adress of the telephone connection to dyndns, so that I can put that adress on my second telephone as proxy, and this way, surf on the net through my home internet on the telephone anywhere. Tricky right?
Now, the thing is I don't like at all booting windows only for sharing internet with my telephone. So I want to do it in linux. I use Ubuntu and Puppy linux home.I tried setting up the connection to the modem with wvdial, and... I got connected! But hey, when I connect to the telephone, I lost my internet connection (main, cable based, the pc connection) :-S. I mean, somehow, the "active" connection for the browsers and all the internet programs is now the connection I have made with my telephone, which is plugged to the computer.Now my objective here is that NO CHANGE of active connections get done when I start the connection to the phone, and then, get a program like CCProxy, and a dyndns updater for sharing the internet connection on the pc, to the connection made on the telephone-modem wired to the computer.
I have just taken on a dedicated server sitting somewhere in Norfolk. I have created a website that uses PHP to connect to another remote server in order to interrogate a MSSQL database. This script, running on Apache, uses a VPN connection to connect to the remote server.To test, I have Apache on my laptop at home and just used Microsoft Network Connection to create the VPN connection.I have now uploaded this site to my new CentOS server and need to create the same VPN connection. I understand this is a command level and have been advised to use OpenVPN which I have successfully installed.My problem is I only have the details remote ip address, username and password. I believe I have to use the 'client.conf' script instead of server.conf.

creating a new website project in the var/www folder. I open jedit and try to save a folder or file inside var/www using jedt and it refuses to let me create or save anythink in the var/www directory.
I have used the terminal to create a new folder and file inside the var/www directory and when i open the file with jedit or gedit and write some code into it it wont save the code either. I am used to just creating a new directory and saving files into it with ease using windows so this is puzzling me a little. I also installed lamp server through the terminal and the phpmyadmin folder installed somewhere different from the var/www file.

I can successfully connect to a remote Windows Computer using Terminal Server Client but I cannot save the profile (Fedora 12).This means I have to enter the details every time I wish to connect. I'm trying to build a dual boot ubuntu 8.10 and fedora 10.I have ubuntu sucessfully installed. with a free partition ready for fedora.I cant seem to get fedora past the beginning of the install. Once it says its loading anaconda, my screen either goes blank, or the anaconda fails and the install exits, telling me to reboot my system.I have downloaded the DVD twice. once from the website, and i think when I bruned it it didn't burn right, I then downloaded it from torrent just to be safe and reburned at the slowest speed. It passes the media test.

Used gparted to format a brand new iomega prestige 1 tb usb hard drive (ntfs) to ext4. The problem is that I can't create folders from nautilus because I don't have permission (root). There is one folder present already lost + found that appeared after reformatting. i can't access that folder because of permissions. Was any of this supposed to happen after formatting an external drive and how can I fix this? I intend to use grsync to back up important folders but can't create folders from grsync also. The only account on ubuntu is mine and i have access to root privileges.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just want to use Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) to connect to the internet. I have done a massive amount of troubleshooting, but some of it seems to contradict itself, and the only two things that I know for sure are that it used to work, and that my Ethernet cable is not the problem. When I use Terminal utilities like ifup and dhclient it seems that it can not determine IP information, but when I try to put it in manually, the "Apply" button grays out right after I finish typing it in. When I try to connect normally, in KDE or GNOME, the icon acts like it's connecting, then instead of having the connected icon, I receive a notification that "the network has been disconnected", and it goes back to the disconnected icon.
Oh, and by the way, I know that I could probably find a workaround, but I have limited resources, and this used to work. The Linux is a Dell desktop with Fedora 12 and the Windows is a Windows 7 HP laptop.EDIT: I hope that I didn't mess something up, but I accidentally used system-network-config to try putting in the IP address there, and ended up changing it back to the original settings, but the computer is now calling it Auto Ethernet in the taskbar icon, although sudo iwconfig in the terminal still calls it eth0.

I am running a server with a GRSecurity patched Kernel 2.6.32.36. I've tried to optimize the kernel as much as I can and know it (removing options, not needed drivers and so on) and compiled the modules into the kernel (no loadable modules anymore). I've started with Slackware 13.0 and the default config for 2.6.29.6-huge. Still I am not sure what to remove/optimize further now.
My question: Is there a way to boot with a kernel with loadable modules, check which modules are really needed for this hardware, (do something like lsmod) and save the running configuration modules for a next kernel compile to be the default .config instead of writing them down by hand and search for the appropriate names in .config or during menuconfig? (Note: zcat /proc/config.gz > .config is NOT the way I want, as it gives me just the current kernel config)

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm running VLC (full screen mode) on Ubuntu 10.04 with the gnome desktop. When I exit from VLC, it does not repaint the desktop. It leaves the entire screen white. I can click on the screen, and this causes the rectangle formed by the upper left corner of the screen and the current mouse position to get repainted. So, by clicking on the screen near the bottom right corner will repaint the desktop (mostly). Does anyone know how to fix this?

To test: Logging in with gnome as root, I am able to create a VPN profile in Network Manager Logging in with KDE as root, I am not able to create a VPN profile in Network Connections.
