CentOS 5 Networking :: Create A Single VPN Connection
Jul 28, 2010
I have just taken on a dedicated server sitting somewhere in Norfolk. I have created a website that uses PHP to connect to another remote server in order to interrogate a MSSQL database. This script, running on Apache, uses a VPN connection to connect to the remote server. To test, I have Apache on my laptop at home and just used Microsoft Network Connection to create the VPN connection.I have now uploaded this site to my new CentOS server and need to create the same VPN connection. I understand this is a command level and have been advised to use OpenVPN which I have successfully installed. My problem is I only have the details remote ip address, username and password. I believe I have to use the 'client.conf' script instead of server.conf.
I have a good question. I have a friend that lives in an area where he cannot receive DSL or Cable internet. He has a phone line, and physically able to get DSL, but the company won't give him service. He has Verizon wireless, but the reception is bad and his service gets dropped too much.
I however, have DSL 3.0Mbps and want to know how I could get him a DSL modem to dial up to my server at my house and receive internet. I know that I would probably need two phone lines to do this, but apart from that.
how i can use VLANs. as i have red on the web, it is possible to have a switch to allocate ports to a single VLAN. thus splitting subnets on a port allocation. since i have a pc running KVM, it is possible to create multiple subnets for DMZ and LAN. thus my question is - is it possible to have a SINGLE cable connection to a switch that carries TWO subnets? so that i can decide how to distribute then on the pc?
I've got a bit of a question. My network is laid out like this:
The role assignments are thus:
Firewall - sorts out the passing through to the 3 different networks, and acts as the traffic proxy. Windows 2003 server - Does Active Directory and DNS CentOS server - FTP and DHCP
Now, my problem is I need the CentOS server to be able to assign IP address to both networks, however, the CentOS server can *ONLY* be connected via the one interface to the firewall. It needs to assign the Windows 2003 server and the eth0 of the firewall an IP address via static DHCP, but it also needs to able to assign the clients dynamically via any address in the 10.23.1.0/24 range. I was thinking that I would be able to create static only assignments for the servers via their MAC addresses, and only have 1 dynamically assignable entry for the clients, and then get the firewall to allow ports 67 and 68 to flow freely between eth0 and eth1, but I wasn't entirely sure of the best way to do all this.
I have just installed FC11 from a DVD I created from an ISO.I also have FC10 (using here) and Windoze XP pro all on separate HDDs.I have not been able to configure my internet connection, when I try to create a new xDSL connection I get an error message; package needed 'rp-pppoe'.I don't now how to get the package without a connection.I have tried with and without Network Manager.
I just removed ubuntu-desktop in favor of kubuntu-desktop. Now I can't create an ad-hoc wifi connection however hard I tried from network-manager. It simply is not visible to other PCs. And when some connection is created on another ubuntu PC, I can't connect to it.. I switched NM off and tried the CLI way.
Under DSL tab in network connection we can create DSL connections, but they only allow wired connections(eth0). I need to connect using wireless connection(wlan0). I migrated to Ubuntu recently. With windows I was able to connect with wireless connection. I'm sure there is a way to achieve this in Ubuntu as well.
What I want to do is to share the internet connected to a computer with a telephone, over another telephone which is permanently connected to the pc.The thing is, that some guys found a way of making this on windows, in fact, I already set it up on xp and works like a charm, it involves configuring in a certain way the telephone, and to use 2 programs. One is CCProxy, which redirects the internet connection to the telephone, and another one, which updates the IP adress of the telephone connection to dyndns, so that I can put that adress on my second telephone as proxy, and this way, surf on the net through my home internet on the telephone anywhere. Tricky right?
Now, the thing is I don't like at all booting windows only for sharing internet with my telephone. So I want to do it in linux. I use Ubuntu and Puppy linux home.I tried setting up the connection to the modem with wvdial, and... I got connected! But hey, when I connect to the telephone, I lost my internet connection (main, cable based, the pc connection) :-S. I mean, somehow, the "active" connection for the browsers and all the internet programs is now the connection I have made with my telephone, which is plugged to the computer. Now my objective here is that NO CHANGE of active connections get done when I start the connection to the phone, and then, get a program like CCProxy, and a dyndns updater for sharing the internet connection on the pc, to the connection made on the telephone-modem wired to the computer.
I am running Fedora 13 Gnome. When I try to create a VPN connection using Network Manager (vpnc) it says that it cannot save the connection and exits out. I can provide other information if necessary.
trying to create something that will periodically send messages to a serial device using socat, take the response from the device and format it, then take the formated data and send it out UDP to a specific IP/Port.I tried to do something along the lines ofsocat <readline> <serial device> | parse script/program | socat -u <readline> <UDP:IP:Port> but didn't have any success.socat READLINE,history=$HOME/.cmd_history /dev/ttyS1,raw,echo=0,crnl | format.sh | socat -u READLINE,history=$HOME/.cmd_history UDP:IP:Port
I want to install CentOS from netinstall CD, but it doesn't work for wireless connection, because it just looks up for eth0 connection. Well, I connected server to wired USB connection and it's named eth1. I want to use netinstall CD but using eth1 connection. Is there any way for doing it?
Just replaced a working install of Ubuntu because i like GS over unity but i cant get my USB760 EVDO card to work. The usual fix of editing the cd.rules file and copying some information into modem.fdi does not seem to work on F15..
Also, noticed that when i attempt to create a broadband connection using network manager it allows me to go through all of the setup dialogs, but never actually adds the broadband connection.
Im following an installation guide (Oracle ASM) which requires me to create a partition on the disk and gives the following example: Code: fdisk /dev/mapper/< alias >kpartx /dev/mapper/< alias >< partition > Im struggelling what <alias> and <partition> need to be substituted for, I have tried to look this up but all that is returned are bug fixes etc generally things that dont make much sense to a newbie like me.
I would like to create a bash script that creates a single group from all users in other groups.
I've been at it most of the day, and I think I'm making it too complicated. I have about 100 lines of code, and it's still now working the way I would like. I'm starting to trip over my own feet with the amount of if statements and variables.
i'm trying to make a folder on fat32 partition named NEW by typing in console mkdir NEW, then i open PCMan file manager then go to that folder at first the folder name was NEW but after i doubleclick it and go back the folder name was changed to 'new'then i tried to rename it to NEW but it says file exist then i tried to rename it to 'not new' (this time inside PCMan) and it work then i rename it again to NEW, go into that folder and go back again... the folder name changed to 'new' again.anyone know why this happen?? this doesn't happen if i make the folder name more than one word such as 'NEW NEW'
I have an unencrypted DVD that is one big title, ie you cannot skip next / prev. What I want to do is reauthor the DVD with title at certain points, so that I can skip next / prev when watching it.
I'm installing Ubuntu to be used as an NFS storage server for my VMWare ESX servers. I've got a server that has two 2TB drives in it. The hardware raid controller isn't an option because it only sees up to 1TB of each drive. So, I'm trying to figure out to do this using either LVM or Parted. I don't know much about doing this, and LVM was the first thing I tried but it didn't seem to do much. It looks like it just created a smaller partition to install Ubuntu on. It didn't ask me what I wanted to do with the rest of the drive space. I've messed around with Parted and am not sure what to do, to be honest. I found a few blog posts but most started off assuming that I knew how to get to where they were starting from.
I've got an MSI U123 netbook that has a built-in web-cam and mic. It has a fairly stock install of Fedora 13 on it. I'm trying to get Skype working and everything seems OK so far, except when I did the test call the playback of my voice was very low. I played around with a few settings and got a little bit better results, but still not acceptable. However, I also tried booting the netbook to Windows XP and tried Skype there. The results were a little better, but still not great. So, I'm thinking rather than a settings change the built-in mic probably just isn't going to cut it.
I've got a couple of headsets that have microphones that I've previously used with portable/cell phones. Both of these headsets have just one line that I'd typically connect to the headphone jack of a phone. Can this type of headset be used with my netbook, by connecting to either the headphone or mic-in jack, or do I need either a USB headset or a headset that has two lines (mic/headphone)? If my type of headset will work is there any type of "How To" doc on what needs to be set? I'm assuming I have to toggle some capture/mic/line settings. I haven't tried anything yet, but rather than mess around with a lot of settings and start banging my head against the wall I'd ask if this is even doable.
I need to set a NAC (PacketFence) system (CentOS 5.5), i would like to set in my case eth0 to work with several different VLAN'S i created ifcfg-eth0.2 copied from orginal ifcfg-eth0 and changed the ip and append VLAN=yes but when i am triyng to load ifcfg-eth0.2 i get error
my ifcfg-eth0 goes as follow
# Intel Corporation 82578DM Gigabit Network Connection # Normal VLAN Lan adapter (Managment)(On-boad 1st NIC) DEVICE=eth0
I'm familiar with linux (Debian/Ubuntu), but new to CentOS. I recently installed CentOS 5.2 on a new server for my radio station. I can log in and do everything fine, save connect to any network. I only have a Broadcom wired nic. I know the wire and ethernet jack work fine, so that lead me to the server's settings. I'm not sure if I missed something somewhere, or a similar post (I'm sorry for double-posting if this has been done before).
There is a static IP address set, and that's done correctly.
From what I've seen, someone would like to see /sbin/lspci | grep -i ether: 03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5722 Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express
I'm trying to setup a ssh connection from to my house that way I can learn Linux on a box that won't make my boss the sys admin (Im help desk) grind his teeth. He say that ssh port is allowing connections out of the firewall but not in so I can connect to my house. However If I try to connect to my box I get a message stating that the connection has time out. I have port forwarded the 22 to my box and have even changed the port to see if it is my isp blocking me. I am able to connect via SSH internally but when I try outside my house I am running into trouble. I looked up how to disable my fire wall and as far as I know it is.
using a terminal on the server, telenet localhost 25 should connect to my mail server. It times out yet I can telnet remotely to my mailsever and get connected.I removed Iptables and that does change things.what ever is causing this started a week ago fri.I was adding to the iptables.I am still a newbie to Linux and Centos so I probably messed it up.
