Fedora Networking :: Both Cards Are Enabled And Set To Connect Automatically?

Nov 15, 2010

I just installed Fedora 13 on my desktop computer and ran into the same problems I did when I tried to install which was i could connect to a network but couldn't access the internet. I decided to install Fedora 14 since I already installed it on my laptop. I'm still running into the same issue, I can connect to my network but cannot connect to the internet using my PCI NIC or onboard NIC. Networking is enabled and I'm getting a IP address from my router. I ran "lspci" and it shows me both network cards which, please correct me if I'm wrong, makes me think that the drivers are installed.

I'm also curious if the VNC client/server could be used through a WAN. I would like to remote into my computer at home when I'm not there and see the gui. I had SSH installed at one point but it was just text. If there is better program please let me know. why I would have Services on my laptop but not on my desktop? Both computers are running the same version. Both cards are enabled and set to connect automatically. I can get a IP with both NICs. I only have one plugged in at a time.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wired Connection - Can't Connect - Dhcp Enabled Automatically

Jun 20, 2010

Since that time I moved to Archlinux and I love it. I do however run lubuntu live from a USB for my work PC. I am having a problem with it. I think it's okay to post here because the core of the system is still Ubuntu. I don't think LXDE is the problem. I start up the live environment and it says 'wired connection connected' but I can not load any pages or do anything.

I thought it may be a problem with configuration so I copied down (from Windows) the IP, Subnet, Gateway and DNS. I put them in manually and it doesn't say connected any more and still no connection at all. I am unsure what to do from here. I am not really familiar with Ubuntu enough to try much. I tried to 'dhcpcd eth0' but dhcpcd isn't installed. I guess the default Ubuntu network manager has dhcp enabled automatically.

Fedora Networking :: Wired Network Won't Connect Automatically After Upgrade

Jun 11, 2010

I just upgraded to Fedora 13 (from 10, using preupgrade), and I've gotten most things working again, but I'm still having trouble with the network. My wired connection (eth0) doesn't connect on boot (even though ONBOOT=yes in /usr/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0).Because of that, I figured I'd just leave eth0 connected manually (with ifup eth0). However, I then found that if I try to connect to a VPN like this, the system reverts to the "stalling every time I try to connect to the internet" problem that I had earlier.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Does Not Connect Automatically?

Aug 26, 2010

Hi all, a new Linux user and long time Windows user, I have added a dual Boot to my Samsung N220 netbook to dual boot to Windows 7 or Ubuntu Netbook, Very pleased thus far, I had a little trouble getting the wirless network to connect and had to update the drivers via a wired connection.

My issue now is that I have to manually connect to my wirless network each time I use the netbook, I checked the box to automatically connect, but this does not seem to work. If I use the link at the top and select 'Connect to Hidden network' (my SSID is hidden) it will then allow me to select a previous connection and then connects fine, but I thought like Windows it would have connected automatically if a listed network was in range. Any ideas what the problem might be or suggestions to get this working better?

Under Network Connections - wireless it is listed as Auto Linksys but doesn't connect automatically.

Is there a simple way to resolve this? I can't see it.

Ubuntu Networking :: Lucid Won't Connect Automatically To Hidden Wi-Fi APs?

Jun 29, 2010

I've seen other users post this same issue, but can't find anyone who has been able to solve this problem...

I have SSID broadcasts turned off on my wireless router (always a good choice for increased security). Even though I have put a check mark on "Connect Automatically" in my wireless network's configuration under SYSTEM > PREFERENCES > NETWORK CONNECTIONS, it will not connect automatically. I have to click on the network manager icon in the notification area of my desktop, and select "CONNECT TO HIDDEN WIRELESS NETWORK" in order to get online. Network manager does indeed connect automatically to APs that broadcast their SSID. (I don't want to enable SSID broadcasts on my router.)

Fedora Networking :: Fc12 Networkmanager And Multiple Wireless Cards?

Nov 9, 2010

I'm having problems getting two wlan cards to work under Networkmanager with F12. I have an old server that I wanted to move, so thought I'd get a USB wlan device for it. before setting up the server, I thought I'd try the USB (an Edimax EW-7711USn - Ralink 2870) on my laptop first. My laptop has an inbuilt ipw2200 card that works fine under NM.

So I've down loaded the DPO_RT3370_LinuxSTA_V2.4.0.1_20100831.tgz file from Ralink, and built the driver (after changing the os/linux/config.mk file for the WPA supplicant settings). I also install the rt2870 firmware (from Ralink) in the /lib/firmware directory. I also blacklisted the rt2800usb driver to ensure that that didn't get loaded.

The problem I have is that I can now get both the ipw2200 device and the rt2870 devices 'working', but they both try to assume the same IP (I want fixed IP's and not DHCP for them) - what is the way to configure the 'devices' so that the rt2870 device is always given IP x and the ipw2200 given IP y?

I think my problem is really my lack of understanding where/how NM handles the files under the GUI config. I used to semi understand how the old network config tool set up it's files and where they were etc. But with NM I'm a bit lost as to how it equates the device with the network settings. Once I have the device working with the correct driver on my laptop, I'll look to apply the same settings on the server (which is then FC13 - but should be simpler as it doesn't have an existing wlan interface).

Fedora Networking :: Infiniband Cards - Slow Initial Ping

Aug 10, 2011

So after some period of inactivity, my FC servers with infiniband cards in them seem to go to sleep or something. If I login to the machine and try to ping other machines with IB interfaces, the first request takes much longer than the others. This is not so over Ethernet.

compute-4-12 ~]# ping ib-s0-1 (this is a solaris machine)
PING ib-s0-1.local (192.168.1.19) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from ib-s0-1.168.192.in-addr.arpa (192.168.1.19): icmp_req=1 ttl=255 time=3.64 ms
64 bytes from ib-s0-1.168.192.in-addr.arpa (192.168.1.19): icmp_req=2 ttl=255 time=0.131 ms
64 bytes from ib-s0-1.168.192.in-addr.arpa (192.168.1.19): icmp_req=3 ttl=255 time=0.222 ms

compute-4-08 ~]# ping c4-7 (identical neighboring FC machine)
PING compute-4-07.local.local (10.255.255.187) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from compute-4-07.local.255.10.in-addr.arpa (10.255.255.187): icmp_req=1 ttl=64 time=1.28 ms
64 bytes from compute-4-07.local.255.10.in-addr.arpa (10.255.255.187): icmp_req=2 ttl=64 time=0.108 ms
64 bytes from compute-4-07.local.255.10.in-addr.arpa (10.255.255.187): icmp_req=3 ttl=64 time=0.115 ms
64 bytes from compute-4-07.local.255.10.in-addr.arpa (10.255.255.187): icmp_req=4 ttl=64 time=0.119 ms
64 bytes from compute-4-07.local.255.10.in-addr.arpa (10.255.255.187): icmp_req=5 ttl=64 time=0.180 ms

This issue does not only affect ping. I created a user that mounts his home directory over nfs over infiniband. ssh'ing in takes longer the first time as well. If I ssh with verbosity turned up all the way, I get a brief hang at "we sent a hostbased packet, wait for reply" (this is the primary symptom I'm trying to get rid of since we want home directories over nfs over IB (without the initial delay)).
