Authent: using passwrd
Client: GTK version
User: added with no rules
nessus-mkcrt: has been ran
Hosts.allow: hole made for localhost to nessusd with nessusd:127.0.0.1 (this took care of my ssl error)
Upon trying to log into daemon I get the cert then prompted with failed login. I am also not getting anything showing up in my logviewer (gnome). For most other daemons I have had them automagicaly pop up (denyhosts for example) how can I get nessus to show up as well.
I have a backtrack distro on a usb stick. I wish to do the following :- (a) Partition the usb stick to have a ext3 filesystem, so that the instln may be persistent for the changes. But the fdisk utility creates partitions as dev/sdb1p1 and /dev/sdb1p2. These however, could not be accessed by mkfs utility. How to overcome this problem. (b) Next , I downloaded the nessus .lzm file and put it in the /base/module dir. But unable to start the nessus daemon. It suggests an error regarding unable to create /opt/nessus and /etc/nessus/nessusd.conf. I think starting nessus as root would help but the problem persists!
after some tweaking i managed to get nessus installed on my machine. However i'm running into an issue when trying to add a user. The nessus daemon is running on my machine, i've registered. I think everything is peachy in that regard, but when i run:
Obviously the command not found is my error, from what i understand there isn't a default user placed in the first time.So essentially i have thie program installed, but i can't access it.
I've been trying to get my internal microphone to work in F12, and as part of the things I've tried I had the seemingly bad idea of reinstalling pulseaudio. The problem now is that pulseaudio fails to start... The following is from /var/log/messages, and is repeated several times:Code:Nov 24 08:51:20 localhost pulseaudio[6300]: main.c: Daemon startup without any loaded modules, refusing to work.
I have fedora 12 32 bits installed on a Macbook pro (intel core duo) I did "yum update" this morning, I have restarted the system and got the following message:Starting abrt daemon: abrtd: Failed to start: got sig 2 FAILEDI have browsed in the web but I cannot find useful information. Then I typed:$rpm -qa | grep abrt
I just got the problem while starting the dhcp daemon. Its showing failed. I need to start it for my clients to be autoinstalled. I am having CentOS 5.2 linux. I've installed all optional packages also while installing CentOS. How to start the dhcp daemon? I've tried the /etc/init.d/dhcpd start also. But it didnt work. Showing Failed.
I am not able to start mysql server...when i type command sevice mysqld start it saysMySQL Daemon failed to start.Starting mysqld: [FAILED]so how to solve this problem ?
Now i will try to explain my problem.I just installed fresh 11.04 openSuSe 64bit.After doing all the configuration I rebooted and tried to login.Nothing happened.Googled some things, tried ctrl alt f1 and login as root, also tried to login as root, even changed my root password to be sure.Still, nothing happens, except for the thing that everytime I try to login as root it says authentication failed, but if i type my password bad it says bad password.
After running Code: nessus-fetch --register <Activation Code>
I got Code: nessus-update-plugins could not be found in your $PATH When I try to run a scan on localhost I get the message "nessusd returned an empty report".
Here's the entry in nessusd.messages Code: [Mon May 25 00:30:03 2009][13188] user mickey.harvey : testing 127.0.0.1 (127.0.0.1) [13189] [Mon May 25 00:30:04 2009][13189] Finished testing 127.0.0.1. Time : 0.03 secs [Mon May 25 00:30:04 2009][13188] user mickey.harvey : test complete [Mon May 25 00:30:04 2009][13188] Total time to scan all hosts : 1 seconds [Mon May 25 00:30:04 2009][13188] user mickey.harvey : Kept alive connection
I would like to get the scan working and make sure that nessus is updating the plugins. I have been looking though the nessus documentation and tried searching on Goggle without any success.
I'm creating a script that I want to run every time any user logs in (not only on the GUI, but also via SSH or via text terminal). The script will check if a daemon program is running (one per user or per session, haven't decided yet) and, if it isn't, will start it. I want this to be system-wide, not per-user. I thought about using /etc/profile (or creating a file in /etc/profile.d/) for CLI logins and /etc/X11/Xsession (same remark, Xsession.d) for GUI logins. My problem is that if the user uses a non-Bourne shell (e.g. TCSH) this won't work. Is there any initialization script that is run no matter what shell the user has?
This seems to have just started. I read a .pdf document with evince and I get a whole bunch of messages like the following.GConf Error: Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. See URL... for information. (Details - 1: Server ping error:IDL:omg org/ CORBA/COMM_FAILURE:1.0)What does this mean? why is evince trying to contact a server when I just want to read a document?
I'm setting up Ubuntu based multimedia PC. I need instructions how to make Music Player Daemon to lauch at login. Tried to put it to startup programs but it still doesnt lauch. Could it be that wlan connection and network drive mount not are not established fast enough for mpd to launch? From terminal mpd launches normally and works perfectly.
I've been using linux for a few months. Recently I have installed debian jessie and I'm learning how to secure my laptop. I have installed
Code: Select allapt-get install sysv-rc-conf
to shutdown few services that I believe I don't need at boot which I found very useful. Among others I have deselected avahi-daemon, cups, cups-browsed, etc. The problem is that, after rebooting, when running:
Code: Select allnetstat -lntup
I still find 'avahi-daemon: r' and 'cupsd' running. I have tried
But after rebooting these services are aklways running. I do not know whta to do.
Output of netstat -lntup
Code: Select all[*]Active Internet connections (only servers) Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address      Foreign Address     State    PID/Program name tcp    0   0 127.0.0.1:631      0.0.0.0:*        LISTEN   250/cupsd    tcp6    0   0 ::1:631         :::*          LISTEN   250/cupsd    udp    0   0 0.0.0.0:16409      0.0.0.0:*              526/dhclient  udp    0   0 0.0.0.0:68       0.0.0.0:*              526/dhclient Â

I'm aware that cups seems to work just for my printer but I do not understand why I can't just disable it.
I am running a recently built Debian 'Lenny' system 5.0.4.I used the gui install and asked for desktop/file server/ I created a raid 1 systemsing two similar drives. Finally I set up some samba shares to use from my (wife's) windows PC. I wanted to use PC names rather than IP adresses to access the shares so activated wins.My Debian system, called arcturus, did not appear in windows network places. After much trial and error and googling found that the nmbd service had stopped.'/etc/init.d/samba restart' reported nmbd not present, stopped smbd and then restarted both. My networking then all came to life. There is a Ubuntu forum discussion around this subject and the consensus seems that the samba daemons are starting before the network is properly established. I have installed a work-around by putting the restart line in /etc/rc.local.But I'm concerned that I have some kind of configuration error. The following is a section of my log.nmbd after setting logging to level 3:-
I am trying to configure and compile the pam_ldap and nss_ldap for MIPS architecture. for this they need ldap library. so I am trying to compile openldap code for MIPS first, but the configuration is failing. The command and options used for configuration is as follows.

The output of this command was "You can start nessusd by typing /etc/init.d/nessusd start" That's why I type that command and I get " $Starting Nessus : ." There is nothing like interface of this software, when I try to search GUI from synaptic package manager. So What should I do ?
I have found this link "Login Failed" message when logging in through RDP
I am suffering from exactly these symptoms. Can anyone suggest what the likely cause is? How would that bug/solution relate to my environment: openSUSE 11.3/xrdp 0.4.1-85.1?
And lastly, how can I find out if the update implied under "Additional Information" has happened?
When booting the system ,"starting system logger : Failed" after that i login to the system as usual but the system logger cannot start, even i use the service syslog restart command, how can i solve such problem ,thanks a lot
I want to install nessus. I run the following in the terminal: sudo apt-get install nessus I get a message that the package is not available and anther package replace it. However I am interested in nessus and not in openvas-client (the other package). So how can I get the nessus package.
Whether NessusCleint and Nessus Server are available as two different packages or they have been merged into a single package.
Earlier there used to be 2 diff packages one for Nessus Cleint and other for Server. But now i was not abel to find any package for clinet and in the only package thats available on nessus.org also does not contain any cleint in it.
It's listening on the default nessus port 9390. I am trying to connect to the nessus server instance using Open-VAS Client. I have generated the client and server certificates, I have pointed the client at the User Certificate File, the User Key File and I have a CA cert. I have created a user account on the nessus server. The problem is that when I try and log in from the Open-VAS client it keeps saying it can't connect. Is there anywhere I can check to see if it's being caught in a firewall, or where I can see if the connection is even making it to the server..
