View 10 RepliesWhile reading some papers on securing apache with selinux, I have tried to bind httpd to port 3000 expecting to be blocked by the selinux, since port tcp 3000 isn't on the http_port_t list. However I was able to start the service...
I'm preety sure selinux is enforcing. Also, if I bind httpd to tcp 81 selinux denies the start of the service, as expected!Did I miss something? Why is httpd allowed to start binded to a port that's not explicitly allowed?
After I adjust my slackware and rebooted I saw a strange "rectangle" on my desktop. Please, look at the screenshots below and tell me how I should solve this problem.
I can't move it. Right-click menu on a rectangle coincides with a right-click on desktop. It does not prevent, but very annoying.
OS: fed 12
WM: gnome
I would like to remove OR move down the "create folder, launcher etc" so the first button can be Open Terminal. I have used both NACT and nautilus-actions to get the Open Terminal on the menu - but I would like it to be on the top (old habit).
I'm new to KDE and am running KDE 4.7.1 on top of Arch Linux. It's fantastic however I have one problem - virtual desktops. Yeah I know there are those "activities" things which people say replace virtual desktops and I will look into them, but for the moment I want to stick with what I know.
And it's almost set up too. In fact, it is, apart from one issue: Say I'm on desktop 3 and I click on the desktop (as in - the bit with my wallpaper, etc, not the little square in my panel) - it immediately switches to desktop 1. Got no idea why I'd want it to do that and it's bugging me.
I was just playing around with the Unity plugin (adjusting opacity) and now the files on my desktop aren't there (yes i know that those files are in the desktop folder) but they don't show on the desktop. also, when I right click on the desktop, nothing happens. it all changed when I played with the Unity plugin by adjusting opacity... I really liked having files on my desktop and being able to change my background by right clicking...
View 1 Replies View RelatedI try to configure mouse click interval since a single click is recognized as double click by doing it from KDE mouse configuration in system settings; but my attempt doesn't work even (I set the click interval to 2 sec, but doesn't change anything). What is the best way to do this in slackware?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been allotted a centos system, whose desktop is dead. i.e

2) Even if some files are present in /home/nikunj/Desktop , I cant see it on desktop. Its totally blank !!
3) I can go to /home/nikunj/Desktop ( On terminal and gui ) and read/write stuff from there.
I have installed Lucid on an Dell optiplex GX150. After I log in there is nothing I can do. No panels although the wallpaper is present. I cannot right click on the desktop either. Alt-F2 works
View 3 Replies View RelatedHi, here's hoping you can help me with this minor annoyance. If I right-click on the desktop I get no menu. I recently installed Zorin, a form of Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid. In the course of 'setting up' my install, I lost this ability and, having made so many changes so rapidly, it's nigh on impossible to figure out what I did that broke my right-click.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Macbook Air that I want to print to a computer running Fedora or another running Ubuntu, where each has a connected printer. Both printers are shared. It seemed that, since all three computers run CUPS, you would think it was a no brainer to set up printing. Maybe my brain's too small. Would some one get me out of my misery? Where does one start? The Air's already set to "sharing printers".
View 3 Replies View RelatedNot sure if this is a bug or not, but the popup menu is now gone. using KDE 4.4.4 opensuse 11.3. Anyone with an idea of what go hosed, or needs to be unset? where in the .kde directory is the file that needs to be changed?
View 2 Replies View RelatedFirst things first, I've just moved from Ubuntu with Gnome to openSuse with KDE. So I'm lost as doing some things in this environment. However, I'm loving what I'm seeing with suse/kde combo. I'm planning on making an extensive right-click menu to categorize all my applications. Basically I want to have the "start" menu available to me when I right-click. I've google casually for a couple days and haven't found much that helps, but I think its because I'm not using the correct keywords seeing as I'm new to this environment.
I have a feeling I'm going to have to make a [Desktop Entry], but I'm not sure how to handle hierarchy and stuff like that.
Until a few days ago [updates perhaps?] I was able to right click on images to save as desktop backgrounds and now suddenly that option is no longer in my right click menu on any image anywhere including my own.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI upgrade my Kubuntu to 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx) and I lost taskbar. Besides, I can't right-click on desktop. In fact I can, but nothing happens. Is that some Plasma problem? I red that Kicker is replaced by some Plasma feature. Could it be because of Conky (some desktop layouts)? I tried to prevent it, but I can't. I killed all Conky instances, and removed it from .kde/Autostart, but it still runs on every start-up.
View 4 Replies View RelatedOS: LucidSymptoms: Launchers are in Desktop folder, but they are not on the desktop. Also, when I "right click" on desktop, nothing happens (no pop up menus). Attempts to add new launchers to desktop (via "add launcher to desktop" or "click-n-drag") are notsuccessful.Symptoms the same on both monitors.Possible Cause: I just completed a problematic install of 2nd monitor (NVidia X Server). Currently running in TwinView. After install was completed I noticed launchers were missing.Info: Desktop folder is owned (RW) & group (R) to my user, execute is enabled, and Others is R, as are all files in folder.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Network file system that I would like to mount on demand. Is there a way (as a user, not as sudo) to make an icon om my desktop that I can click to mount and unmount. I would like the icon to be persistent - i.e., it should not go away when I unmount the share.
View 2 Replies View Related10.10....can't click on a desktop icon and get it to open...for example a mounted drive BUT if I right click and select open it will but none of the icons in the open drive will then open upon clicking...this is a relatively new install and it worked fine until very recently...I've swapped the mouse and moved it to another usb port.

2. right click does not work on the desktop
I've been into Linux since about 6 months, & I love it. Thanks to everyone....
Anyway, Due to the bad habit of windows habits, I've many Desktop Icons on my Desktop.
I ALREADY KNOW HOW TO HIDE THEM. I know both the ways for hiding them...
BUT, the problem is, whenever I hide Icons, the desktop RIGHT CLICK DROP-DOWN MENU goes too!! There's no right click menu then.
But as soon as I activate SHOW DESKTOP ICONS, the menu comes back... Pretty obvious why. But how can I prevent it???
I need HIDDEN desktop icons, ALONG with DESKTOP RIGHT CLICK MENU.
SO, my dear fellows, please enlighten me. WHAT SHOULD/CAN I DO?
As waht it says above. I can't access public wifi as any browser on every single distro i've tried (15+) won't load just stuck in perpetual loading. No error message or nothing.
Also the browser wouldn't work until i disabled ipv6 in about:config. All browsers do this. is there something i could do to disable it completely so i have a browser choice?
I have a problem with export a secret key with Fedora 12.
When i did this command:

I had an error:

My panels disappeared after i clicked the log out button and i had to shut down the computer by right-clicking the desktop and clicking shut-down. However when i rebooted, the panels were still gone, my icons on the desktop weren't there and i couldnt right-click on the desktop. i tried updating to 10.10 to solve the problem but that didnt work. running xfce4-panel via "alt-f2" didnt work either.
View 6 Replies View Relatedknow how to explain this, but I'll try to the best I can. I installed from wubi, so I don't know if that matters, but here goes.
When I'm using ubuntu, I'm unable to click on any windows/elements outside of my current window, or use the close/minimize/maximize buttons. For example right now, in firefox, I am unable to use either of the taskbars or minimize the window. I can't click any of the icons on the desktop or anything, either, and if a page triggers a popup, I can't do anything with it. The thing is, though, interestingly, unplugging and replugging my USB mouse fixes it until I click on something again. I have no clue if it's a driver issue, a hardware issue (my mouse works fine on windows, though), or just a misconfiguration in the OS somewhere.
When I Click in Opacity in Compiz the top bar of The desktop desapear. I Clic again and don't apear again. I have to close session and open again session to fix it.
I'm triyng to fix a Opaticty problem in all my top border windows. They all appear transparent. The alt +scroll of mouse doesn't work.
This problem I take it from 10.10... Now I have it in 11.04...I thought it was going to be fix it with the upgrade. In 10.10 I used Metacity because of this problem.
I am using Red Hat EL 4. I am facing a bizzare issue. Just like that I rebooted my PC. When it booted up, I am not able to see my icons in desktop and also right click does not work.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI try to shutdown a box running Fedora (fc12, all updates applied) remotely. From various threats I selected the following way that suits best to my needs: I edited the entry for shutdown in /etc/passwd:
shutdown:x:6:0:shutdown:/sbin:/usr/bin/sudo /sbin/shutdown -h +1
Logging in from a tty with shutdown gives the desired result: The computer does the shutdown. Then I tried the same using sshd and plink:
plink -t -l shutdown -pw xxx 10.0.0.123
As a result I get:
Using username "shutdown".
Access denied

The /var/log/secure shows the following entry:
Oct 2 00:40:46 rotgschirr sshd[6841]: User shutdown not allowed because shell /usr/bin/sudo /sbin/shutdown -h +1 does not exist
Oct 2 00:40:46 rotgschirr sshd[6846]: input_userauth_request: invalid user shutdown

Somehow when using ssh the shell /usr/bin/sudo /sbin/shutdown -h +1 cannot be found.
After installing xubuntu 9.10 and attempting to change double mouse click starts to single click, there is no difference.
Example:Applications tab, settings, file manger, Behavior and then select single mouse click instead of double mouse click, renders no change in behavior what-so-ever.
Anyone else experienced this?
I have checked quite a few post without coming up with an answerIhave Lucid 32bit release installed with compiz visual effects normal.I have lost the mounted drive icons from the desktop as well as the ability to save to the desktop or a right click menu on the desktop.
Any file saved to the desktop folder does not appear on the desktop.I have reinstalled compiz, the nvidia driver and tried all manner of settings but just can't crack this one
I am using this cool gnome applet for desktop wallpaper management.

but needs following input on this one
how can i create a simple right click menu entry on desktop so that i can rotate wall papers by clicking on that entry.
I am using GNOME and nautilus.
even a wall paper rotation shortcut key might help me at this movement,
at this point the only option i find is through right click on the icon placed in panel and then selecting next photo.
