I just installed XMMS2 and everytime I tell it to play one of my mp3 files it only plays the sample song provided with the program. I haven't found any solution to this, just other people with the same problem.
View 14 RepliesI'm looking for some pointers on a method to "transfer" the song-playing from my laptop to my PC, both running ubuntu. The use case is: I'm home listening to some song on the laptop. Then I realize how crappy the speakers are. Here's what I do *now*:
1. Stop playback on the laptop
2. Get up, go to the PC, open the music player
3. Find the same song
4. Try to find the same point in the song
5. Stop playback on the laptop
6. Start playback on the PC (the PC has good speakers)
Of course now I'm dreaming of having a "button" I push that does all this all by itself. Can anyone give me some pointers?
I have tried everything within my power and knowledge to get xmms2 to play my flac files, but I just get no sound. I've had to resort to mplayer for now for flac. For the record, yes I have the flac plugin installed along with the all-plugins package.

View 3 Replies View RelatedBoth Banshee and Rhythmbox crash, leaving a segmentation fault in the terminal, after playing a song for less than a second. I do manage to get some sound before they crash. This problem seems to have begun only a couple of days ago after doing an update. Unfortunately I was playing playing around with moving my music collection to an NFS share around the same time as the update so I can't be sure which action it was that broke music playback.
Because both Banshee and Rhythymbox are affected and showing identical behaviour I think the problem is gstreamer. Reinstalling everything I could find in synaptic related to gstreamer had no effect.
Some general information:
- My music collection is in FLAC but other formats seem to cause the same behaviour.
- Music from an NFS share or my external USB drive causes the same behaviour
- VLC plays music from my NFS share without any problems
- Removing ubuntu-one (as suggested in some posts) did not help
- I'm using Ubuntu Desktop 10.10 x86
I've had no luck searching the interwebs for help thus far. Does anyone have any ideas?
Really interested if anyone knows of any pre-compiled or pre-built demo applications that could run on a MySQL back-end with a web-based front-end?
Ideally, it would be really, really simple having a web front-end that attaches to the database and just either reads data from it (or even enter data into it). Nothing too flash.
I'm thinking along the lines of a LAMP (Linux, Apache, MYSQL, PHP) install but I'm not a developer so if I have to build something I'll probably be out of my league here Does MySQL/Apache etc. have sample/demo databases with a web-front end application that could be fired up and installed without having to build the environment?
Years ago I remember M$ had the PetShop .Net app running on a SQL2000 environment easy to setup and simple enough to showcase the database and a simple front-end. A colleague wrote a small .NET app to just read the data from it and continuously scroll the data in a text box which was fine. Something like that on Linux would be perfect.
I am writing an sample LDAP Plug-in on RHDS. While compiling plug-in file, i am getting an error related to missing header files(prtypes.h, prprf.h etc..).
'slapi-plugin.h' file is generated in the path /usr/include/dirsrv. But inside this file, they are using some other header files like prtypes.h, prprf.h, etc. But there is no files generated with this names. Because of this i am getting "No such file or directory" error for these files. I can get these header files from Netscape coporation(Thirdpary), but can we use the same header files for Redhat or is there any separate header files are there for RHDS.

As far as i know VLC is the best media player for linux bc it suppurts all file types. But there is one anoying problem - when i want to listen to song it opens VLC, but when i open another song it opens another new VLC window. And this problemug or whatever didnt apear in Windows version VLC player.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI got a problem with my Songbird (1.4.3) on a Fedora 12 64 bit. When I play music and the first song is over, the song changes but the little loudspeaker symbol in the list, that displays the currently playing song, doesn't move to this song. It just stays on the first played one and also the title of the first one is displayed above the progress bar. But that's not all, when the song should change again (from second to third song), it won't do so. The second played song starts again and will be repeated again and again and Meanwhile the mentioned symbol just stays in front of the first song. Only if I press the "next" button two times the third song will be played. So I got to press "next" two times after every two songs. That makes listening to music nearly impossible. The problem occurred after installing a lot of updates (I had no fast internet connection for months so I now had to install all at once), so it is difficult to say which package causes the issue. Before that Songbird worked all fine for months. I would be glad to provide further information, but neither running songbird in terminal, nor the songbird error console shows up any error related to this behaviour. I also tried to delete the .songbird2 folder in my userhome, but it made no difference at all. Normally i would get the latest verion of the software at first, but since songbird dropped linux support, there is no newer linux version than the one installed on my system.

I installed xmms2 from the packman repo. I doesn't show up in the launch menu. If I try and start it from the CLI I get the following

First of all, this is not a rhythmbox issue, but a pulseaudio one. Everytime I click on next song (in rhythmbox or amarok), the master volume drops about 25 percent. Once the volume goes to 0, the volume cannot be modified without going into sound preferences and unmuting the volume for the application. This is *very* annoying. Basically, it means that everytime I click on next song, I need to follow that with 2 or 3 hits of up volume.

- Axis C++: axis-c-linux-current-bin.
- Xerces (parser xml): xerces-c2_2_0-linux8.0gcc32
- Apache 2: httpd-2.0.64.
I have used Eclipse to compile the example. When I run the calculator client I get the following message on the command line: "terminate called after throwing an instance of 'axiscpp::SoapFaultException' what(): Cannot deserialize the requested element " and warning message:

I have implemented two machines one for honeypot(192.168.100.10) and another(192.168.100.20) to remotely log the honeypot log file using syslog. Inside honeypot I emulated another 3 machines with services on virtual IPs of that same block.Now honeypot is working and I can see the logs generating as I did a portscan(nmap) on those virtual IPs from .20 machine.All of the machines are running ubuntu.
But does anyone know any s/w or tools which originally attackers use so that I can get a clear picture of what happens from the logs. Having problems creating these attack scenarios.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhat I want to do is to write a script that gathers some information (like cpu temperature and bandwidth usage) and logs it into a file. I can't figure out how to get a single sample of the current used bandwidth: I've found that there's plenty of tools to get this information from command line, but the majority of them are curses based, so I can't take their output to put it into a file. Among these I've found bmon, that has a nice ascii output. The problem is that this output is updated constantly, while what I want is a single "sample" per program call.
Is there a way to get this done with bmon or someone knows another program to accomplish this task?

My setup is very simple: home router and a desktop wireless, with wpa security. Using wicd is snap, but I'm tired of dropping connections; everthing worked with slack 13.0, but this 13.1 dropping wireless connection is driving me nuts, both on the desktop and the laptop.
View 15 Replies View RelatedThis is Debian 8. Pulseaudio uses 44100hz by default, with 48000hz as the 'alternate sample rate'. The hda sound driver on this (and seems most) audio hardware supports 44100, 48000, 96000 and 192000 sample rates. Anything else, pulseaudio resamples it. High quality resampling settings use more cpu resources, so it's best to use one of the supported sample rates, when possible. This is done by default for 44100 and 48000, but if you want to use 96000, for example, you have to set it in /etc/pulse/daemon.conf as "alternate-sample-rate = 96000". But this causes 48000 audio to be resampled.
Pulseaudio log, 48000 stream gets resampled:
Code: Select allD: [pulseaudio] resampler.c: rate 48000 -> 96000 (method speex-float-10)
while 96000 stream is copied:
Code: Select allD: [pulseaudio] resampler.c: rate 96000 -> 96000 (method copy)
44100 and 48000 defaults make sense since this is the majority of audio content these days, but I do have some 96000hz audio. I know there were reasons why it was limited to one alternate, but I could get around the issues. So, is there a way to configure more than one alternate sample rate for pulse audio?

I use that to generate a list of a few files that I'd like to move to my desktop. I tried:

I thought that might dump the tail list of files for an argument in the cp command, but no luck. I then tried:

Is there any way of changing the recording sample rate in the GNOME sound recorder? It's set at 22050Hz, and I'd like to record at 44100Hz. I can't find anything in the GUI to set preferences, and I can't find a text configuration file to edit, either.I've tried rec and arecord, but they both give a similar message:
I made it this way so that I wouldn't get audio lag in programs, but it also means I can't play audio in more than one application at a time, apparently (with some odd exceptions). I just got it from a thread in the Ubuntu forums, and it's worked fine for me so far.I'm really clueless here, as I've never had to fiddle around much with audio settings (let alone ALSA) before.
