Fedora Installation :: Still 14 Repositories After Upgrade To F15?
May 27, 2011
I upgrade to F15 yesterday using preupgrade. Everything was OK but there's something wrong with repositories. They release version seems to be "14". I tried to fix it by using:
yum --releasever=15 --skip-broken distribution-synchronization
But everything nothing changed, this is the output of yum repolist":
Complementos cargados:langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit
After seeing that Starcraft 2 had a Gold rating with Wine I decided to try it out on my 64bit F13 system. Unfortunately I seem to get the ACESS_VIOLATION error due to kernel issues (see http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManage...estingId=55485. This issue has apparently been fixed in 2.6.35 so I'd like to upgrade my kernel. Is it a good idea to install the kernel and nvidia drivers from the F14 repositories on a F13 system? Are there any pitfalls that I should be aware of?
I upgraded to natty on release day and everything went fine, but about three days ago when I went to update my sources, I get this: Code: sudo apt-get update Code: W: Failed to fetch [URL] Sources 404 Not Found W: Failed to fetch [URL] Packages 404 Not Found E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
I've looked through the forums, but similar problems are always tied to the mozilla repo, not this one. It seems important, so I'm not sure if I should just delete it or what. My sources.list looks like this: Code: # deb cdrom:[Ubuntu 10.10 _Maverick Meerkat_ - Release i386 (20101007)]/ maverick main restricted # See [URL] for how to upgrade to newer versions of the distribution. deb [URL] natty main restricted deb-src [URL] natty main restricted ## Major bug fix updates produced after the final release of the distribution .....
I need to upgrade php-5.1.6 to 5.2.x on my fedora 5. I tried using yum and not getting proper packages. Is there any third party yum repositories for upgrading PHP in fedora 5?
i've just upgraded to Natty, and there are lots of 3rd party software sources that were disabled during the upgrade, and i've enabled them again. But then when i try to refresh my update cache, they fail to download. these are the list of software sources that fail to download:
W:Failed to fetch http://linux.dropbox.com/ubuntu/dist...amd64/Packages 404 Not Found , W:Failed to fetch http://download.virtualbox.org/virtu...amd64/Packages 404 Not found , W:Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/alecive/ant...source/Sources 404 Not Found
[code]....
and now most of these softwares appear in my 'computer janitor' to be removed (which obviously i wouldn't want that..
I just installed ubuntu because the newer versions were not working for me. So I installed 7.10 and there is no repositories that are still up. Is there any repositories that I could add from the newer ones or other distro repositories.
1. Installation freezes while looking for repositories. Have left overnight hoping installation would continue with no luck. 2. When it does find all the repositories it crashes with fatal error installing package XYZ. This could indicate errors when reading the installation media. Installation cannot continue.
Solutions tried.
1. First I though the download ISO was bad. Tested the ISO download with sha256sum checksum utility. Perfect download according to the checksum. 2. I tried 3 different DVD drives on system that Fedora is being installed to in hopes that maybe the DVD drive was bad. 3. I tried burning the ISO with two different DVD burners. One with windows 7 ISO burning utility. The other on windows XP using Nero 7. 4. Tried burning the disks at low speed to get a better burned disk. 5. I have tried 2 different brands of DVD disks 6. I have officially gone through 8 different DVD disks.
I have what I suspect is a frequently encountered problem; indeed it may be an inevitable one. Moreover, I think that I know the solution to the problem. Let me explain.
History: 1. I downloaded f10 from the Fedora site.
2. I burned a DVD.
3. I installed f10 on my laptop using the DVD, and it seems to work correctly.
Symptoms: 4. I ran yum upgrade (as super user), and got the message 'No Packages marked for Update.'
5. I did the same thing for several days and got the same response.
6. I ran yum upgrade a* and got the same response. I thought that the mirror site might balk at large downloads.
Diagnosis: From what I have read on the web I think the following is what happens.
What I will call the original repository-key system, the one that I downloaded and that is now on my DVD, is limited. It merely concerns the packages that are already on my DVD, and these packages are never changed in the original repository. Therefore, yum is working correctly and will always tell me that 'No Packages marked for Update.'
Cure: There is a new repository-key system, and with it yum does real updates and upgrades. All I have to do is install the new repository-key system.
THE PROBLEM: ALTHOUGH I HAVE GOOGLED AND SEARCHED A LOT, I CANNOT FIND THE METHOD FOR GETTING AND INSTALLING THE NEW REPOSITORY-KEY SYSTEM IN F10. THERE MUST BE A SIMPLE STANDARDIZED METHOD. WHERE IS IT?
If the above is correct, then anyone who downloads and installs f10 as I did must face this problem.
After install I tried to add firefox but it wasn't found in any of the repositories. I thought it was supposed to be in there. Thunderbird also wasn't. What repositories do you guys add after install?
I've tried to install FEdora 15 using the Fedora 15 DVD for i686 architecture. However, after the step where I chose the setup for GRUB boot options, I got this error: "Some of your repositories require network access but networking could not be setup" (or something similar). Then I only had the option to exit the installer, but after reboot there was no GRUB and I have no means even to boot back to Windows.
How to install Fedora without networking or is Fedora the only distro so messed up that this can't be done? I've tried the Live CD/USB version but that version has no C compiler to allow me to install networking drivers after install completes. Now I was told to try the full DVD, by the full DVD managed to mess up my computer completely.
Currently on testing and wanted to upgrade to sid. Just wanted to confirm that sid currently does not have things like security/backports/volatile/etc. Am I correct to assume that Debian Sid's source list will looks something like this:
done 11.4 update from DVD on my two laptops and I'm trying to do my home machine now.Problem is that the DVD update does not find any repos. I told the update system to set up wired network using DHCP and everything seems OK, when I check the box to use separate media during installation the system won't find any community repositories and when I specify URL it simlply won't connect to the repo. As for as I can tell there is a connection to the internet, but maybe not
I am running Suse 11.1 64bit, with KDE, recently I received a pop up on my screen, "something about update problems", I used Yast 2 and selected online Update and it couldn't find updates for Nvidia and froze at that point. I dis-enabled that repository and refreshed all of the remaining Repositories individually and it seemed to work. I then went to the repositories listing and selected "Add" and selected "community" repositories and received the following: WARNING Unable to download list of repositories or no repositories defined. What is my problem? How do I acquire the list of community repositories? I can live with out the Nvidia repository for now but would eventually like to get it back.
I am completely new to Linux, so forgive me for possibly asking idiotic questions. I downloaded Fedora 11 through BitTorrent, and burned the ISO images to CD using the Active@ ISO burner. I then booted using the "low display driver" option, since the computer I am attempting to install on is fairly old. I also added the following options, which were the only way I could even get into Anaconda:
no-hlt all-generic-ide acpi=off
However, after loading Anaconda, selecting the "Use entire drive" option on the hard disk screen, it told me I needed a network connection for some software repositories. I have read that software repositories are meant to be downloaded after the installation, and I have not chosen to install any repositories at all. Why does it require a network connection to install from the CD?
I got this error message when installing Fedora 11 by an installlation DVD (download from [URL]) Unable to read group information from repositories. This is a problem with the generation of your install tree. This error message appeared after the step that the installer asked me to choose where to install boot loader and configure the GRUB boot menu. The error message came with two button: [Retry] and [Exit installer].
I tried to upgrade from Fedora 8 to Fedora 12, but after preupgrade got everything ready I rebooted. Anaconda searched for storage devices and then said "No upgrade root found". What can i do to continue the upgrade manually?
I am trying to dual boot Vista and F10 and I have 2 different 400GB hard drives to do it on. On the first HD, I have Vista installed but when I try to install F10 on the second, I get this error message:
Quote: Error: Unable to read group information from repositories. this is a problem with the generation of your install tree. I've looked it up and found some forums but none answer how to "fix" it (if it is indeed something that you fix).
I'm doing a Kickstart install of Fedora 11 with a DVD ISO as the installation source and the ks.cfg file in the root folder of the DVD. The error message I get is: "Unable to read group information from repositories. This is a problem with the generation of your install tree."
Trying to do the upgrade through "Software Updates", however because there are no current updates, I cannot click on the "Upgrade" button to begin the upgrade process to FC14.
Is there any other way to do this besides downloading the DVD and installing?
I have an acer aspire one laptop that runs linpus lite, which is based on fedora 8. I have noticed that my update software no longer works and was wondering if the problem was that the repo had gone.
I get this when I do gksu gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
E: Malformed line 61 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list (absolute dist) E: The list of sources could not be read. Go to the repository dialog to correct the problem. E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
When I do sudo apt-get update, I get this:E: Malformed line 61 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list (absolute dist)
I do not have a line 61. I tried various suggestions in the forums and commented out lines in the past.
I am recently upgraded my ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04. Now i am unable to install certain applications.1. My ubuntu system is working under network proxy.2. If i try to install certain applications it giving "407 proxy authentication required" error is coming.3. Even I try with export_HTTP proxy command still coming the same error.can anyone explain how the repositories are working under network proxy and where i can get these repositories addresses.
Just wondering if this is feasible/sensible. I'm running a server with 8.04 LTS server edition, and I'd like to upgrade to the latest version of sshd because the version included with 8.04 doesn't easily support chroots and I know it's simple to set up in newer versions. There's no official backport, and I don't want to upgrade the whole OS to 10.04 or 9.10, so I was wondering if it was possible to upgrade only the sshd package using a newer repository or something like that?
I installed the PinguyOS version of Maverick, but even after disabling all the repositories that came with it I still couldn't get this to work. Therefore this must be a problem with Ubuntu 10.10 itself, however if this problem does exist is Ubuntu, I'm surprised these forums are flooded with complaints. I've searched them up and down and I found nothing. Anyway, the problem is that I can't install digikam, this is the error I get: The following packages have unmet dependencies.
digikam : Depends: kdebase-runtime but it is not going to be installed Depends: kdepim-runtime but it is not going to be installed Depends: libkde3support4 (>= 4:4.4.4) but it is not going to be installed Depends: libqt4-qt3support (>= 4:4.5.3) but it is not going to be installed Recommends: kipi-plugins but it is not going to be installed E: Broken packages
The problem here seems to be that the kde libraries that come with ubuntu are version 4.5 for everything. And it seems digikam 1.4 is built against kde 4.4.
