I seem to have a "small" problem with this error that I am given when try to update my Fedora 11 install using the command:

I am running Fedora 12 64-bit on a MacBookPro5,1 system. After two weeks of not running Fedora on the system, I boot into it and check for updates with Yum Extender. It only finds a small handful of updates despite the fact that my other system running Fedora 12 32-bit has installed several update over the past two weeks. What is needed to resolve these update issues? Also, I suspect the system is not picking up all the updates that it should. What can I do to determine which updates the system should be getting?
im a long time Ubuntu user that is giving Fedora a spin using Virtualbox on my Win7 machine. I have managed to get it up and running and guest additions working but have run into a problem with a few of the updates available in the Software Updates section.
It originally had around 75+ updates to install and seemed to do this fine. Unfortunately after a reboot and new check it comes up with 11 new updates. When I run install updates it gives me an error (see this post title) along with this bit of gibberish:

I have an Intel Core2 Duo system that I upgraded from Fedora 12 to Fedora 14 (32-bit). When I try to install updates from YUM I get the following error output:

I am using fedora10 in my notebook. I installed nvidia-graphics driver as follows.

Then i installed kmod-nvidia with yum su -c 'yum install kmod-nvidia' When i tried to open NVIDIA control panel, i got a message that nvidia-driver should be configured. Then i issued the following command as root. nvidia-xconfig. The i rebooted the system. Now in the boot menu, i see two kernel informations as follows
If i boot my linux with first one, x windows starts, if i boot with the second one (previously default), the x-windows is not opening. Why this happens? So i booted my system with first option in the boot menu. The system booted and x.windows started but i am not able to use any software that uses opengl window. The glxinfo command gives me the following error.

I have an older PC that was running F11 without any problems. At some point I started updating to F12 through the web and got a a nice black screen that pretty much hosed my OS. (Not a big deal).So I went and downloaded the F12 Live CD which did the same thing.., at some point just after install the screen would be black and reset is the only option.Got the full F12 32-bit DVD and during the installation I get: "X Startup Failed,Falling back to text mode."Finishing the install I get to a nice black log-in prompt so I can log-in as root.From there I cant do much as I am a n00d in Linux to some extent and my network doesn't work
My video card is a Geforce FX 5200 which installed and worked just fine under F11 (without me doing anything but basic install and Ubuntu 9.10)

Fatal server error:no screens found I had done a yum install kmod-nvidia for the newer kernel. I am thinking I need to get the kmod for the current kernel again (2.6.32.12-115.fc12.x86_64 #1 SMP Fri Apr 30 19:46:25 UTC 2010 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux), but am not sure how that is done?
I`am trying to install drivers for a very old graphics card GeForce2 GTS/Pro on Suse 11.2. I downloaded driver NVIDIA-Linux-x86-71.86.13-pkg1.run and install it successfully. But when I launch "sax2 -r -m 0=nvidia" it crushes with error "isax: could not import file: /var/cache/sax/files/config at /usr/sbin/isax line 199"
This is my 2nd day on linux (yesterday I installed u-b-u-n-t-u but I couldn�t get my video drivers to work, so today, I installed Fedora 15 and everything is fine). I cannot change my resolution guys. I have installed the nvidia drivers but still; I cannot go higher than 1024x768. All I want is 1280x1024 or higher. You know, the "ctrl+alt+F5" type things, where you go to those pure command lines? I installed Ubuntu 10.04 from scratch, and everything was working great! Good resolution, etc. When I booted up my computer, the (very brief) splash screen fit the entire resolution of my monitor (1680x1050), and the X server did the same.
When I'd go to one of those 'tty' terminals, I was surprised (in a good way) to see that they had scaled to my monitor's resolution as well. I was looking forward to using that. Well, time came where I wanted to turn on Compiz, so I downloaded/installed the nVidia drivers. Well, they work. I can work with Compiz and 3D games at full speed and full resolution in Ubuntu, and I have zero complaints about that.
What I do have a complaint about is that the terminals (tty5, in the above example) are back to that old resolution, 640x480 I believe. Also, that brief splash screen is at the same horrible resolution, instead of the full resolution I had on the old nVidia driver that didn't support 3D effects.
Is there a way to get that back? Is it a bug or a glitch that it's no longer scaling the tty's to my display resolution, and do I just have to wait for an update?
I've just installed 10.04 on my Dell Latitude D830 with a NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M; upon booting Ubuntu asked me to install the official NVIDIA driver (latest) so I went ahead and installed it, now the boot splash screen is in about 640x480/800x600 rather than the usual 1920x1200 it was when I first booted.
When I reboot my machine, the login screen looks fine, but then when it actually goes into Gnome, the resolution is always reset to a 4:3 resolution that looks horrible on my new 24" 16:9 monitor. When I launch the nVidia X Server Settings application, I can change it back to the monitor's native resolution of 1920x1080 without issue. When I click "Save to X Configuration File" I get an error message stating, "Unable to remove old X config backup file '/etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup'."
I'm not sure if this is causing the problem or not. I'm running F12. The graphics card is an nVidia GeForce G100, which connects to a no-name 24" LCD monitor that I just picked up. The monitor has VGA and DVI inputs. I'm running an HDMI cable from the nVidia card, into an HDMI-->DVI adapter, and then into the DVI port on the monitor. I used it for 2 days connecting DVI-only from the nVidia and didn't have this problem.
I finaly got this nVidia driver installed, and for a while it worked just fine. But then all of a sudden when I booted up again, my resolution is 640x480. So im thinking, hmm thats odd, no big deal ill just go to system->preferences-> monitors and change the resolution back. Well when I get there I find that I only have 2 options, 649x480, and 320x240. When my notebook boots I get a high screen resolution. However, when I login it seems to go to a lower resolution that is not clear. I think this all started when I updated to a new kernel. So I reinstalled the nvida drivers using leigh's guide. However, I still can't seem to get it to display correctly.

I recently installed Fedora 14 KDE and NVIDIA proprietary driver for GeForce FX 5200. I'm able to change the resolution to 1920x1080 (Acer H213H 21.5" lcd monitor), but when I restart the box, I lose these settings and I have to fiddle with NVIDIA and KDE monitor settings until I get the settings back.

Is this (in)correct? What else can I try in order to keep my resolution at 1920x1080? When I restart, it reverts to 640x480.
I didn't have this problem before installing NVIDIA driver, however, I had visual anomalies and slowness in video refresh/repaint whenever moving windows. I don't want to go back to that so I'd like to see how to permanently propagate my resolution settings through reboots of this box. I've search multiple forums with no relevant hits as far as I was able to discern.
There I had legacy driver from nVidia but resolution was degraded to 640x320 and in their version 8.10 I cannot edit xorg.config (there was not anythig about resolution) I hoped in fedora i`ll fix this.

Lately I tried to update my nvidia drivers from RPFMFusion repos. There was a new version 275 available, so I installed it. After a reboot I would repeatedly see the Nviia Logo followed by black followed by a glimpse at the CLI with some error message. This process continues over and over again and it is so fast that the only thing I could make out from the error message is the following:
at-spi-bus-laun[some-number] segfault at 980 ... in libx11.so.6.3.0 ...
I tried completely removing the driver then updating my system (there were no updates) then booting with nouveau to see that that actually works. Then I tried reinstalling the nvidia driver following leigh's guide [URL]. Same error.
This is where I'm stuck at the moment. Booting to runlevel 3 I had a look into the messages and Xorg.0.log, but I didn't see anything. Maybe I can get the log files uploaded. I will boot from live media and provide them later on.

There is one addition I can make. Before, when I was using the 270 driver, I tried playing some games via wine and that also segfaulted on me (most of the time - 1 worked), so I think there is a general issue with the nvidia drivers on my system. But back then It was only wine, not X.
First off, let me say: I'm a long time Linux hobbyist and recently installed Fedora 12. I've been looking (some say "lurking") around these forums for a bit after I loaded it up and let me say: Leigh, You're an amazing young man! Keep up the great work! I've a question: I've just put together a hobby computer: Pentuim 4, with 1 Gig of RAM and a Nvidia Geforce5700LE. When I install Fedora from a fresh install, everything works great: nice screen resolution, good graphics, etc. but no 3d or acceleration, so I'm very limited on my programs.
So I decided I need to upgrade my Nvidia driver. I followed Leigh's Nvidia setup guide after installing Fedora 12 (all four steps!) everything seemed to go fine, but when I reboot, I quickly see the Nvidia splash screen, but the screen then goes blank. Well, not really blank, I can see what appears to be a kind of cross-hatch pattern, plus I can see what should be my mouse cursor on screen (it also is a square shaped pattern). I suspect it may be at a screen resolution that my monitor doesn't support. Once there, the computer pretty much doesn't do anything else. Usually I can break into the x driver loading and go to the command prompt, but this latest time I can't even do that.
I spent quite a lot of time jumping from one thread to another trying to fix a problem with my NVIDIA drivers in Lucid. I was getting the error message on startup: NVIDIA: Failed to load the NVIDIA kernel module ...Failed to load module "nvidia" (module-specific error, 0) No drivers available".
After a lot of trial and error, this is what worked for me (I have updated this thread following [URL]):
- Download the latest NVIDIA driver from www.nvidia.com/page/drivers.html
- In the terminal cd to the directory where you downloaded the driver package (e.g., $ cd Downloads)and make it executable (e.g., $ sudo chmod +x ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-256.53.run)
