Fedora Installation :: F13 Fresh Install From HDD Fails With Db_version_mismatch

I'm currently running F11 and am trying to replace it with a fresh install of F13, using the same partitioning layout. I downloaded the F13 i386 DVD ISO using bit torrent. (The sha256sum of my downloaded ISO matches the reference sha256sum value.) I'm trying to do the fresh install of this ISO from hard drive (without burning a DVD). Last summer I did the same procedure of installing a downloaded DVD ISO from HDD when replacing F9 with F11. The installer (Anaconda 13.42) proceeds to the point where I specify my custom partitioning layout. It then prompts me about storing a boot loader. Shortly after I reply to that, the installer gets an "unhandled exception".
rpmdb: Program version 4.8 doesn't match environment version 4.7

The only nonstandard thing I did was the following. According to the F13 installation guide, for installation from HDD the file "install.img" from within the ISO files must be copied to a directory named "images". The F13 installation guide gives the following procedure:
Recently freshly reinstalled ubuntu 10.04 on a new / blank hard drive and it now crashes on startup. Quick version: I have a nvidia Quadro NVS 295, it gets to the point just after the bios with the flashing dash, seemingly tries to init xserver / gdm then crashes. Keyboard lights go off but the pc stays on, and just sits there with the monitor in power saving mode. Tried in recovery mode, the blue / grey ascii terminal thing pops up for less then a second then the display crashes in the same way.
Swapping with an ATI card borrowed from elsewhere, the new install will boot quite happily. Anyone know how I can get 10.04 to boot with a nvidia quadro NVS 295? Its a bog standard card and my version of 10.04 I upgraded to on my old hard drive works fine. ts a reasonably new dell XPS 64bit pc.
Longer version: I run 3 monitors using a PCI-e x16 NVS 295 and a PCI NVS 295. This worked great under 9.10 and 10.04. Boss gave me a solid state HD so trying to install 10.04 on that. However on my first install attempt the live CD failed to load (same problem as above, gets to init'ing the display and crashes with no output). I removed the second PCI card to run with just the 1 PCI-e x16 nvidia card, this time the live CD worked fine and I could install, but I am stuck on the boot problem. Booted into the system using the ATI card and did an update just incase something may have changes / been fixed but the issue persists.
I'm trying to install FC15 x64, the install goes smooth and reports no errors, I looked around in /tmp/anaconda.log but couldn't see any relevant errors either, basically after rebooting and trying to boot my new install, I get:

I've reinstalled 3 times now, first I was using USB, but now have tried with CD too. All I want is for GRUB to be installed on /dev/sda2 which is where my install is, and which is also the default location where the installer supposedly installs it to. I've also tried unplugging my other hard disks, and installing with just the first drive.
The last version a Linux I had was Mandrake v9.1. However, in looking to get the latest/greatest Linux I downloaded Ubuntu and Kubuntu. After installing Kubuntu the system reboots and fails to boot into the OS. After the P.O.S.T all I get a the word "GRUB". There is no response to any keys with the exception of Ctrl-Alt-Del. I am temporarily able to get passed the boot problem if I boot from the CD and choose boot from primary hard menu option. I'm not sure how to fix the boot up problem and could use some advice. However, using the CD to boot up the hard drives installation leads me to my next problem.
While in a desktop session I am unable to drag windows by their title bar. When attempting to drag a window, the desktop becomes covered with parts of the original window spreading all over the screen in multiple directions. It looks like a kaleidoscope or bad acid trip image. I suspect the video anomalies might be configuration related or improper driver. Again guidance would be greatly appreciated here.
I have a good 'ole Matrox MGA Millenium card installed into a P4 1.8ghz system, with 512 MB ram. The hard drive originally had an old install of Mandrake v9.1, but all of the partitions were wiped and I created 3 new partitions:
- /dev/sda1 20GB Bootable/Primary Partition EXT4 (Unbuntu mounted at /) - /dev/sda2 18GB Primary EXT4 (Kubuntu mounted at /mnt/Ubuntu_dsktop_91) - /dev/sda3 2GB Swap space
My intent was to install Ubuntu on the 2nd primary partition and be able to switch between them. However, I tried installed Ubuntu on the first partition (reformatted of course) and I encounter the same boot problem and display problem.
I am having problems with getting the drivers to work for a geforce 9500gt.To get started Im working with a fresh install of 8.10, and I have successfully installed the driver package for this card from nvidia's site, version 260.The problem comes after I restart the computer. It fails to load. I am able to install the driver and start X and it works greatI can even restart x and it still works. but as soon as I restart the computer it doesn't load. I then need to reinstall the driver. I am curious if anyone has an idea of whats wrong here? I am wondering if it's a possible xorg.conf problem so I will post that below.
Specifically, libgtk2.0-cil, seems to be giving me a world of trouble. I tried to install mono so that I could use an application. When it went to install libgtk2.0-cil, everything broke. I've tried to reinstall, purge, remove, and each time it fails. I've gone through a few iterations of trying to get things to remove cleanly to start fresh, so there are a few packages that are dependent on libgtk2.0-cil causing issues as well.. but thats to be expected. code...
I tried, and cannot locate the files it notes; `/usr/share/cli-common/packages.d/policy.2.6.gtk-dotnet.installcligac. I tried to create them real quick with touch, it removes what I make but still does not uninstall and still gives the err.
Can anyone offer assistance on removing this so that I can start fresh?
I recently bought an F12 DVD (from a UK supplier) which I took to be a "full distribution". But looking back on the web site it was not described as such. After booting I selected the Replace Existing Linux System option and it listed the installation of 204 packages - much smaller than the 933 packages when I installed F9. The kernel is now FEDORA (2.6.31.5-127.fc12.i686.PAE)
My problem is that I am now faced with a very intimidating terminal. I am sure the installation did not offer a graphical interface. I have tried to get Gnome running by following the Installation Guide :- 1) 7.4.2 Booting into a Graphical Environment I type in -gedit /etc/inittab and I get back --bash: gedit: command not found
2) 15.3 Switching to a Graphical Login I type -yum group install "GNOME Desktop Environment" Response -Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: fedora. Please verify its path and try again.
3) Again under 15.3 - bullet point 3) Type -/etc/inittab Response --bash: /etc/inittab: permission denied
I have now run out of ideas. I'm sure it is not supposed to be difficult but I don't understand the implications of the command line responses. I really don't want to be condemned to a win dependency.
I recently finished a fresh reinstall of Fedora 11 on my ASUS EeePC 1000HA today. Once I rebooted, it asked for the usual "first time user thing" and I proceeded. After that screen, I was brought to the loging manager, so I logged in, and was presented with my destkop. I fired up the terminal, added myself to the sudoer's file and did a "sudo yum update" but was given the following error (the beginning of the text got cut off due to how lengthy the update list was): [URL].
I have just installed F 12 - clean install- but when I go to get updates today (Dec 2nd) no updates appear.I have done yum clean and yum makecache but still no updates available in software updates
I decide to install F15 (other machines run F14) and after a pretty smooth install and reboot, I try to login and get the message "Oh no, something has gone wrong. A problem has occurred and the system can't recover. Please log out and try again". But no matter how long I try, I keep getting this message. Then I go to crt-alt-F2, and try to "yum install gnome-panel". Then it shows that I don't have any network connection at all, even though I did install my network. I'm thinking of installing F14 now.
All, just did a freash install of fedora 10, and I have no sounds at all. Speakers work and are pluged in (everything works fine with my ubuntu partition) Nothing appears to be muted in alsa or on the gnome volume control Sound card = Creative Labs CA0106 Soundblaster
I just downloaded the F11 x64 DVD iso, and I when I try to install it, after the media check screen, Anaconda starts it load, but it says "X failed to start, falling back to text mode" (or something like that). The install goes through (in text mode), and all that gets installed is the basic environment.

I've tried Ubuntu x86 on the same system, but I was having issues with it, so I decided to try FC11 instead.
Ok, I booted with the live cd and used Fdisk to delete all partitions and wipe the drive. I used the "Replace existing Linux system" install option and let it roll. I've installed F13 on a DELL computer. Everything works fine except that under KDE menu if I click on 'shutdown', I have the confirmation windows but the computer never shutdown. Same issue with the the logout button. If I want to stop my commuter I have to open a terminal and type " shutdown now" or "halt".
I'm stuck with installing Fedora Core I have 2 hard drives both 80Gb I want to install a fresh copy on one of the drives to do a dual boot I have vista on the main hard drive this is where I am at Installation requires partitioning of your hard drive by default, a partitioning layout is chosen which is reasonable for most users. You can either choose to use this or create your owe. Select the drive to use for this installation?
I've now tried several times to install a fresh copy Fedora 13 i386 on my old Dell laptop, but each time I reboot the laptop I get the first-time welcome screen which asks you to create a user. When I re-enter my user info, it tells me that there's already a folder created for that user. After rebooting, I'm back to that screen. Does anyone know what's going on here?
I installed fedora 15 and i m not able to change the monitor resolution. if I open the display settings I just get the choice between 1024x768 and 800x600.
I have just installed Fedora 15. I have tried both the desktop edition and the LXDE Spin on an AMD X2 64 5800+. It's hard-drive so I select "Use All Space", meaning all the partitions will be removed and recreated. The installation completes normally, when I reboot without the CD, I get the screen with blinking cursor same as [URL]... Adding intel_iommu=off to the grub.conf did not help. I presume the default installer works correctly however the installed boot configuration puzzles me. The boot partition is /dev/sda1 and the mount point is /boot. If boot from the cd after the installation, I mount:

Is this how it should be? This is me being new to Linux probably, but I should /boot contain the boot information if that's where the boot partition is mounted? Is there any way to "turn on debugging" so I can get a better insight on what's not happening?
I am trying to upgrade RH9 to F10. I have downloaded dvd iso image i386. The SHA1 integrity check passes. The installer fails media check due to "errors". I did an independent verification of the DVD and zero errors found. Download was from Fedora's own torrent, so files should be verified anyway. If I bypass the media check I get the message : Running anaconda 11.4.1.62 the Fedora system installer - please wait.....
Fc11 installed well, it was related to a particular sata driver perhaps The installation went well up to the reboot, and then displayed the message saying that LogVol00 was not found. 3ware sata raid card, usually it installs without error
I've run the install to hard drive program three times over and each time I get "disk boot failure". I believe I've got Grub to install to the mbr but I am not sure.

All the hard drives are hooked to the High Point controller. It recognizes all of them that have power hooked up and read/writes to them. Two have 98SE installs, the third is where I'm trying to install Fedora 12 to get away from some problems I'm having with 98SE.
The BIOS is set up to boot from the "SCSI device" which means it's booting from the High Point controller. The High Point lets me set a boot mark, which, when set to the Fedora drive, yields the disk boot failure no matter what I do to it.
after fresh f12 install says reboot & i do... no boot menu, boots xp. there's probably a solution, but i don't know it. someone know how to get around this?
After installing Fedora 15 from LiveUSB and rebooting it just hangs on a black screen with a blinking cursor (underscore) in the top left of the screen. If it's reached grub, it isn't responding to any commands, and mashing several key combinations (such as ctrl-alt-f1) will produce a beep usually emitted only by the BIOS (hinting that it may never be making its way to grub).
The only particularly interesting thing about the install is that by default it wanted to boot itself from the MBR on my primary-master (Windows) disk. Instead I selected the option to boot from "the first partition in sdb1", which is my primary-slave (Linux) disk, (the first partition being /boot). This way I can change which OS boots by changing the boot order in my BIOS, and so avoiding bootloader wars.
I have been using Redhat/Fedora for 11 years. I don't understand why Fedora 11, can't even do a vga graphical install, when Windows can.
I tried many parameters, including xdriver=vesa, and it cannot used graphical install.
So, I tried text install, which I have done many times in the past.
However, F11 seems crippled, in that it will NOT do the same install achievable from a graphical install.
It will NOT allow the use of fdisk, and it will NOT allow any selection of any packages.
What is the point of this option?
Even after trying all of this, for a dual boot install, and F11 claims to have installed, there is no grub or equivalent, and the computer just boots windows, just like Fedora 11 did absolutely nothing.
What are the options now? Why is text install so crippled and incomplete? Why is standard VGA mode so hard?
I am attempting to install Fedora 11 on a Dell Windows Server 2003 computer from CD (I just want to override the Server PC with F11). I used this media in my class last night after testing it, so I know the media itself is good. We did have lots of issues getting the keyboard and mouse to work during the install attempts last night, too, but eventually it worked. Unfortunately, at home is a different story!
I boot from install Disk 1 and get to the first screen with the option of testing the media or skipping it and I only get one keystroke then nothing. F11 just hangs/stops/freezes/locks up. Reboots don't help and I attempted to install from the F11 DVD I made, too, but the machine completely wouldn't see that disk at all! The keyboard is connected directly to the computer via PS2. I don't have a USB keyboard laying around nor an adapter to try.
I would love to hook up my children with F11! I did manage to figure out what files to download, burn to disk and how to install F11 at school yesterday).
I'm newbie in Linux, but have used Windows and Mac OS X Leopard. Used RedHat in the past, and can't figure this out. I burned Fedora12-x86_64 DVD image on DVD, and start install. Whether I use "linux text" command from boot or just select Install at graphical prompt, everything goes OK until I select hostname. I leave it as "localhost.localdomain" and press Enter. It always give me an error "Can't load class=TimeZoneWindow".
My computer is connected via ethernet to my router, and I had no problems getting online in Windows. Now, in case there are hardware questions: Intel Pentium 4 with HyperThread enabled and 64bit support (Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit runs perfectly in 64bit mode) 2Gb of DDR 400Mhz RAM I have 2 SATA hard drives with RAID option as Mirror (BIOS settings - RAID or AHCI) And 128Mb ATI RAdeon X300 series. Pretty simple, but this error aborts my installation.
I tried to do Anaconda updates, but I have no clue about URL where the image is, ex: linux updates=[URL] or I tried configuring network: linux ip=192.168.1.113 netmask=255.255.255.0 gateway=192.168.1.1 dns=68.193.158.40,24.115.70.53 and no luck. Why does "Can't load class=TimeZoneWindow" appear? Is it a network issue or what? I've seen the screenshot for TimeZone screen in the Installation Guide, but I never get to it.
I am saddened that I can't install any Linux distro with ease on my HP m8530f computer which runs on a m2n78-la motherboard. It has a Phenom CPU, 6 SATA ports and probably a fakeRaid (at least that's what I guess is causing problem). The Fedora 14 Desktop install goes all the way to the end and then I get a fail message due to not being able to mount /dev/mapper/xxxxx.
P.S. the motherboard only has SATA mode or disabled for HardDrive mode and no any other options. Seems like this is an HP custom made motherboard from Asus hence the limited options in Bios setup.
