The problem is when watching a video F15 Gnome decides to send me to the unlock screen. Think that's what it's called. So I have to type in my pass.
A little bit later, same thing. So how can I prevent it from happening?
anyone know how to turn off or adjust the lockout feature in ubuntu.I am running the new 10.04. With this feature after I am idle for time til I am brought back to the login screen, this is very annoying for me and I have to keep unlocking multiple times a day.Hopefully there is a way to configure this behavior.I am note sure if this is something specirfic to 10.04.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running Ubuntu 11.04 on a dual boot with Windows 7 Home Premium (32 bit) Dell Inspiron 560s.
As long as I am engaged in activity in Ubuntu all is well. However, if I leave my computer to get a cup of coffee I find on my return the computer screen is blank and when I activate it a window comes up asking me to enter my password to take it out of lockout, leave a message etc.
I can't seem to find the appropriate command to increase the time before I get locked out.
What steps can I take to increase the time the system stays active before I am kicked out and have enter my password again?
I was considering adding the below to my RHEL5 system's /etc/pam.d/system-auth file.

I know where they come from: clients are obtaining ip addresses by DHCP, and initially are sending DHCP requests from 0.0.0.0. I am running arpwatch with a specific option to NOT report such things, but it looks like it is ignored...

With previous versions of GDM, I was doing that through gdmsetup, which ended with these lines in /etc/custom.conf :

I have a Canon 450D which only supports PTP mode, not USB mass storage mode. When I connect it, it gets automounted and I can browse it with Nautilus. However, when it is mounted for browsing, gThumb cannot access it.To import the photos using gThumb, I have to manually unmount it from Nautilus.Is there a way I can prevent this camera from being automounted? This is bearable when my BB-connection is performing. Unfortunately, like right now, it isn't - between 10-50kB/s - and the wait is excruciating!
So, why does Fedora seem to download the complete files database at least once every 24hrs if there's an update/query issued, and not just the 'differences'? And how do I prevent it from doing so? Ubuntu arguably has access to many more files but never pulls this stuff. Fedora would appear to be completely unusable without a broadband connection! And in the time it has taken me to type this, Fedora continues to download its update at a rate of 10-30kB/s...

I can mount and umount /mnt/server/opt/apache-tomcat-7.0.2/webapps/ without problems.
But after a reboot the systme it hangs when loading, I can't copy paste the messages but it said something about boot dependencies, and it was apparent the error was loading fstab. I had to Ctrl D or enter root password to get a recovery system, after commenting out the sshfs line (and some nfs lines too) from /etc/fstab after another reboot I was in.
sshfs used to be permitted in /etc/fstab it seems , I've not used it before, could this be a FC15 issue? I have seen other threads about FC15 and nfs boot issues presumably to do with the new booting mechanism.

View 1 Replies View RelatedOne of my machines is a desktop with a WIFI connection. This machine is not configured to use NetworkManager; instead, it still does things the old way via /etc/sysconfig config files.
Problem: this WIFI connection requires wpa_supplicant. By default, F11 brings up the network at priority 10 and wpa_supplicant at priority 23. So dhclient fails its initial attempt to obtain an IP for wlan0 (it will retry and succeed but by then it's too late). This causes other network-related startup tasks to fail. For example, ntpdate fails. This is problematic for systems with faulty CMOS clock batteries since ntpd will reject updates if the clock skew exceeds some threshhold (so ntpdate is usually used to preset the clock).
The workaround is easy enough: add "Required-Start: wpa_supplicant" dependency to the init stanza in /etc/init.d/network and let chkconfig figure out how to rearrange the priorities. This ensures that wlan0 is actually capable of sending a DHCP request when dhclient starts.
This works fine...until yum update decides to replace the scripts in /etc/init.d and, consequently, things go back to the old, broken startup priorities.
So my question: Can yum be told to not change files in /etc/init.d that have been modified by the administrator? Or to at least not overwrite the LSB-style init stanza in those files?
Alternatively, is there a better way to do this that's not vulnerable to updates? I tried playing with the modprobe.conf "install" option to pre-start wpa_supplicant before wlan0 comes up but that has so far been unsuccessful.
Is there a method to prevent the grub installer from overwriting the MBR pointer when grub or the kernel is updated? I'm running a multiboot system and when Fedora's grub installs, then OpenSolaris' partition isn't included in the bootlist and Ubuntu's menu line has a chainloader line that doesn't resolve correctly, requiring a hand edit.I may try to do a chmod 444 grub-install , but I'm not so sure what the reprocussions may be.

I've copied the .desktop files from /usr/share/applications to ~/.local/share/applications that I don't want appearing in the gnome 3 applications list (e.g., email settings for evolution), and added 'NoDisplay=true' to the end of each desktop file. Restarted gnome shell, even tried logging out and back in, but they still appear there. Previously, in gnome2, desktop files under the home dir superceded the global directory. Do I need to edit them directly as root to effect the changes, or could this be a selinux problem?
