View 2 RepliesIm running VMware fusion on my mac book pro and i want to boot my physical ubuntu partition. After wasting hours trying to add the partitions directly into vmware grub complained that it couldn't find the correct partition.
I abandoned that avenue and created a 50MB vmware partition and installed GRUB2 on it so in the VMware i then attached the 50MB grub partition and the 250G physical drive. This all works fine however i cant seem to get GRUB2 to automatically populate the menu. On the GRUB2 partition i have /boot/grub/* and /etc/grub.d/ * and in the grub.cfg i have set GRUB_DISABLE_OS_PROBER=false
however when i run update-grub i get an error saying something like "mkconfig-grub cannot find / is dev mounted?" i can manually run /etc/grub.d/30_os-prober and it prints out a list of all my partitions which i can paste into grub.cfg however i dont want to have to manually do this for each kernel upgrade.Im doing all this via a 10.04 live CD.
Ldap and samba work fine if de ldap server is @localhost.
smbldap-populate however refuses to connect to the ldap server at the address ldaps://ldap.server
ldapsearch -x -H ldaps://ldap.server
I checked ldad.conf and smbldap.conf time and again.
Why oh why?
How to build a list of files under a directory that may have any permissible characters in the name, that is anything except NUL? The only possible (?) bash data structure to contain a list of such names is an array because NUL cannot be used as a list item separator so no X-separated list can safely be used; there is no "X" that might not be part of a file name. OK -- but how to populate such an array? Here's what I've tried.
Code:
#!/bin/bash
# Set up test files
dir=$(mktemp -d "/tmp/${0##*/}.XXXXXX")
touch $dir/foo $dir/bar
[code].....
I'm running Fedora 15 with Gnome 3. I installed Gnome-Do using 'yum install gnome-do'. I opened it from the Terminal by typing 'gnome-do' but I keep getting an error message that says
Could not load desktop item: libgnome-desktop-2.so.17
Gnome-Do opens but it doesn't display any application I search for and when I try opening the Gnome-Do preferences, it quits.
I installed gnome-desktop-2.32.0-8.fc16.i686.rpm from here: [url] and then installed Gnome-Do. Everything works fine now.
Could you please help me to get the "Multiple Desktop Windows Icons" back on my KDE desktop panel?I accidentally disabled it by right clicking on bottom left of the panel and now i am not able to restore it back through System Setting > Multiple Desktop

View 1 Replies View RelatedI successfully installed Fedora 14 and spent 2 days in the Gnome desktop. Performed program and security Updates. Have booted in and out a number of times since.Well not this morning. Now I am greeted with the Desktop Login dialogue except under the "F" symbol where the login names are supposed to be, I see only my Computer Hostname unless I click it (and then I just see "Fedora Release 14 (Laughlin)There is the bottom panel displaying the Time, Battery, and Shutdown button.
No User Login entries.CTRL+Alt+2 brings me to (tty2) where I can log in my account at the commandline but I can not get back to my desktop.I followed the directions here : fedora-10-root-login/ and now see the loging entry "other..." and can type in my user account to log in. But that login box no longer shows my User Account listed when loging in.
I just started using Fedora 15 at work. I have a dual screen monitor setup running basic drivers on a nVidia card 8800. I want to move my taskbar and Fedora "start button" to the left screen. Could you tell me settings or modifications to move the taskbar and dock to the other screen? I've looked through GUI and display settings.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have gnome which is the DE I always use, but today I wanted to try KDE so I did a 'yum install @kde-desktop', the installation went ok, so I rebooted just in case and logged on a KDE session, the animation for loading was displayed and when it was finishing it went back to the login window instead of loading the desktop. If I try the KDE live CD, on other computers it shows the desktop right away but on mine it sends me to the login window and the same, looks like its loading but it sends me back.
Gnome keeps working ok, I can even launch all KDE apps installed like Dolphin and stuff but can't run a KDE session, does KDE 4.X have a special hardware requirements?.
For some reason I can never seem to get the desktop sharing going on Fedora. I have F12 installed on the ESXi server at work, but I also tried this on my laptop at home this weekend same result.I'm currently following the Fedora 12 users guide, section 15.2 KDE
When I open Desktop Sharing (Krfb) I go to set an invitation, connect in TightVNC 192.168.128.38:5900, Failed to Connect. If I goto security> Allow Uninvited Connections, I set a password, same thing.I'm using the most current version of TightVNC and I know it's works because I don't have any problem VNC into my OS 10.5 box.
I played around with KDE and eventually messed up. My right click on the desktop doesn't work and the panel goes from the original color to black when I extend it. I even lost the "clickable" in the upper right part of the desktop. I already tried System Settings > Desktop > Defaults > Apply. Doesn't work for me.How could I revert to the default settings?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm running F 13 with Gnome and Compiz-fusion on my laptop. I've disabled Show Desktop in the Compiz settings. I've checked with the Configuration Editor, and that shows it to be disabled. However, every, single time my mouse slips up to the top left corner, it activates. Not only that, when it does it, all of my screenlets Go Away, and the only way to get them back is to restart them. how to tell Compiz that I Really Mean It when I say that I don't want it to show the desktop?

View 2 Replies View RelatedRunning Centos and the desktop was hanging. I did a little (clearly not enough) research and hit ctrl - alt - f7 which brought me to a black screen with a blinking curser in the upper left corner. Got out of that by ctrl - alt - f1 which put me in a terminal session but I really want to get back to the GUI desktop.
Startx gives me "-bash: startx: command not found"
Im logged in as root.
I hate desktop icons and shortcuts. I don't ever need them, and they look wasteful and cluttery sitting there unused. Since everything is accessible from the menus, I would like to not have any icons on my desktop in Fedora 11. I have been playing around with the settings for days and can't find a way to make them disappear.
