Fedora Hardware :: Logical Drives In Windows 7 Aren't Accessible Except The First One

In windows 7, I had 5 partitions on a hard disk: C, D, E, F, G . I installed Scientific Linux 5.0 on C partition and it removed Win 7 . It's graphic mode didn't work, also I couldn't access to the other drives. I replaced it by Fedora 13. I can work graphically Fedora but when I mount the other drives, just D drive is visible! Is there any solution that I could access to the data on other drives? By the way, the following is the output of fdisk -l .

I have a computer with 2 internal hard drives and one of them doesn't show up in the bios until I reboot. Almost every time. Does this mean the drive is going to fail or the cable is bad or what?

I have been using XP pro for a long time and installed Ubuntu 9 2 days ago. Before installing Ubuntu what I did as follows:
1. Deleted all the Partitions using XP installation cd.
2. Created 4 partions like C,D,E,F without formatting any drive. All the 4 partitions have the RAW data.
3. Deleted the partition of C drive and got the unpartitioned space of my hard disk.
4. Installed Ubuntu in this unpartitioned space.
Now the ubuntu is working perfectly, but the issue is I can't access my those 3 (D,E and F)logical drives which are in RAW format. How to format those drives and get access of them. I do not want to install XP again.

I'm installing Ubuntu to be used as an NFS storage server for my VMWare ESX servers. I've got a server that has two 2TB drives in it. The hardware raid controller isn't an option because it only sees up to 1TB of each drive. So, I'm trying to figure out to do this using either LVM or Parted. I don't know much about doing this, and LVM was the first thing I tried but it didn't seem to do much. It looks like it just created a smaller partition to install Ubuntu on. It didn't ask me what I wanted to do with the rest of the drive space. I've messed around with Parted and am not sure what to do, to be honest. I found a few blog posts but most started off assuming that I knew how to get to where they were starting from.
It's just two drives, /dev/sda /dev/sdb

Is it possible to automate the configuration of a servers raid drives (my system has a HP Smart Array P400 controller) or does that have to be done manually? Right now, when I get a rack of new servers, I have to go through each one and use the ORCA tool to setup the logical drives. I'm hoping there is some way to automate that. And forgive the lame question, but I am assuming you have to configure the logical drives before you can install the OS?

We have made a fresh installation on DL 580 G 5 Server. The installation Completes successfully. When we reboot the server we find an error message " Logical Drive Disable due to Possible Data Loss. and then non system disk or disk error.
Due to this we have lost all of the data. We can successfully install Windows Server 2008 or 2003 or Redhat Enterprise Linux 5 on this server with no error no issue.we can successfully install Windows Server 2008, 2003 or RedHat Enterprise on RAID 5 or RAID 6 Or RAID 1 or RAID 1+0. we dont face any issue on these windows or linux platforms.We are only facing RAID Controller Issue on CentOS 5

I've made 2 ntfs volumes by mkntfs. First one is a primary partition on usb hard drive and second is a logical partition on system hard drive. I used default cluster and sector sizes in mkntfs. Under Linux these partitions are mountable by ntfs-3g, readable and writable. But fdisk doesn't recognize their filesystem type. It recognizes that as "Linux". WinXP x64 also can't recognize filesystem type of these partitions. Why windows can't work with these partitions?

I have a windows file server and a windows AD domain controller. all windows workstation users are able to log in to their workstations authenticated by Windows DC and also shared drives on the file server mapped with logon scripts. now i m creating linux workstations and have been successful in adding the linux machines to the domain and users are authenticated from the windows DC. now comes the question of mapping the shared drives for each user. the script on the windows DC is as below:

Is it possible to run Fedora 14 on hard drive SDA (1st drive in computer - 1 terabyte Western Digital) and also run Windows 7 on drive SDB (2nd drive in computer - 1 terabyte Hitachi)? I have been able to run both Windows and Fedora (Fedora installed last) on SDA, but all my attempts to have the two OSs running on different drives have failed. Am I attempting the impossible or can it be done? I'm not particularly concerned which OS goes on which drive, but Fedora grub doesn't seem to be able to pick up WIN7 when it is on drive SDB.

After fixing drive partition numbers, I got the following error from cfdisk: Code: FATAL ERROR: Bad logical partition 6: enlarged logical partitions overlap Press any key to exit cfdisk However, I can see all my partitions with fdisk and gparted, I can mount and use all of them.I used the following guide to fix the drive numbers order: Reorder partition drive numbers in linux | LinkedBits Does somebody know whet is cfdisks problem and how can I fix it?

I have a website on a standalone Ubuntu server (using virtual host). I can access the site from 3 different Macs using Safari, Firefox and Chrome. I can access the site from my Mac using virtual Windows XP Pro in VirtualBox. But I cannot access the site from any Windows machine on the LAN, and it's frustrating I cannot get to it with name resolution nor with IP address.Here are some of my related configs:

I want to create a combined portable Ubuntu / USB stick.For this I intend to install Ubuntu to my 16 GB USB Drive. I am going to install some rather big programs (Matlab, Maple...) and therefor, I think the 4 GB persistent space in different startup-USB creators are to small.Because of this, I want to install Ubuntu to the USB drive, to get full functionallity. Also because of the small USB Drive size, I dont want to create two different partitions. For USB Drive use, I want to be able to save files larger then 4 GB (ie. not FAT32).
How can I create a fully functional Ubuntu USB, that can also be accessed from Windows? I understand that NTFS and Ubuntu is a bad mix, FAT32 have file size restrictions, and Windows cant accesss ext3/4.I saw someone talk about installing Ubuntu using the 'install in windows' to bypass Ubuntu-NTFS problems, but the link was broken, and I could not see how it was done. I've been using it for a couple of years, it has been mounted various ways and into various places, for the past year under Suse 11.2
Suddenly I discover that it's not accessible in Windows anymore. Drive gets an assigned letter but can't be opened. Tried on Windows 7 and Windows Xp.
This is the current fstab line:
/dev/disk/by-id/usb-Seagate_FreeAgentDesktop_3QK0A0N7-0:0-part1/home/stan/Seagatentfs-3gdefaults,locale=en_US.UTF-800
Drive is owned by the root but permissions are set for everybody.
This is ls -l line for it's mount point

Another weird thing about it is that if I try to copy a folder into it Dolphin gives me "can't create directory" error and then hangs. If I restart Dolpin I see that the folder has been created just fine and I can copy anything into this new folder without any problems, including creating any sub-folders.
That weirdness doesn't exist if I run Dolphin as a superuser.
I would create a separate thread for this issue if there's no connection.
For now I believe something screwed up the part where Windows reads what file system it is.
Is there a way to "unscrew" it and make sure that NTFS looks ok to Windows, too?
Backing up 750 GB drive and reformatting it is not an option in the near future and I occasionally need to take the drive and plug it into friends' Windows.

I am running Ubuntu 10.10 and have 5 shares that I have setup for Samba (assume names of share1, ..., share5). I find that shares(2,3,4) are accessible from my MS Windows system, but the share1 and share5 are listed but Windows gives an error accessing them that I may not have permissions.I have reviewed the sharesve the same owner, group, and permissions.Is this a known Samba bug or configuration issue? I have gone through the smb.conf file multiple times as well as examining the directories and do not see what the issue might be.

I have Linux installed on one machine with samba running and a second machine running XP. They are going through my router and I am using the same username/passwords for both machines and I have even gone to the point of allowing access to everyone for the share I created and the worgroup in samba is MSHOME just like my XP machine. When I view (or search) my workgroup computers my Linux machine shows up and so do the shares I created but when I try to open them I just get a message that permission is denied and I may not have permission to use this resource. I even tried setting access to the shared folder to 777 but still I can't open this share. Has anyone got any idea of why this is?

We have about four workstations and a server. What we need is authenticating with the server, and when you log on, you should see your own desktip and documents idnependent on which workstation you use. Could this be solved by placing the user's home on a server share?We also need a server share accessible from both Linux, Windows an Mac, readable and writeable, as some prefers to bring their laptops to the office.I've read a little bit about terminal servers, but using the workstations as thin clients sounds like a waste, as they're just as powerful as the server. We have an existing Windows 2000 network that I am trying to add an Ubuntu 8.04 server to. I have put links into the windows domain DFS to the linux machine's samba shares.
The shares work fine for local users that are physically on the same network (192.168.0.X). Remote users from other offices or dialing in with a vpn client can not access the these particular folders off the DFS. However, they can map them directly from the ubuntu server.

I tried many different ways to get a screen shot (gnome's tool, gimp, compiz plugin, xwd, import) and in all of them the screenshot was filled with jagged colored bars. I tried both with and without compiz and the same thing happened. I'm using gnome with fedora 11.

We use a Linux server with AFS on it. I changed the linux root password using passwd. The new password will let me log in as root but when I try to change the AFS admin password it asks for the root password. When I put in the password that it let me log in as root. It tells me authentication failed. And when I run the password command with -admin admin, it asks for the admin password. I put in the admin password that worked before I changed the root and it says authorization failed.

I have two identical machines. I updated one (yum update), and now I can't view the display when it boots up; however, I can ssh into it. I'm pretty sure it's a resolution display issue on a KVM connected to the machines.
Years ago, I could view and change the default resolution in /etc/X11/xorg.conf. Now, it appears that information has been moved to another location.
My xorg.conf on the working and non-working machines is the same:

My network comprises three PC's .... Windows XP, Windows 98SE and Ubuntu 9.04 running SAMBA. All PC's are configured WORKGROUP=WORKGROUP. The network connection To/From XP/UBUNTU via SAMBA Shares works perfectly OK. However, despite scouring all forum information regarding changes to Win98 ENCRYPTION, (Registry change re: DWORD "EnablePlainTextPasswords"), the Win98 PC refuses to connect to UBUNTU. The UBUNTU PC can conect to all the Win98 shared folders OK. I have disabled my Linux Firewall (Firestarter), I have run SMBCLIENT to check the user password for Win98 and it is validated OK. The Win98 error message is ....
"\Inspiron 510m is not accessible. The computer or sharename could not be found. Make Sure you typed it correctly and try again."

I assume that it is a mounting error but due to my newbieness dont know how to confirm this. I see that I can not copy to the windows drives via Dolphin either.

I suspect this is not new but I just can't find where it was treated. Maybe someone can give me a good lead.I just want to prevent certain users from accessing CD/DVD drives and all external drives. They should be able to mount their home directories and move around within the OS but they shouldn't be able to move data away from the PC. Any Clues?
