View 7 RepliesThe other day I was using BitTornado and it was running so slow it was almost unholy. After some research I found out that if the yellow light was on it means I couldn't receive any incoming connections and had to open some ports on the firewall. That, my friends, is not the problem. I tried to manually open up the bittorrent port and did some other things that I can't quite remember but eventually I accidentally killed all bittorrent functionality on my laptop.
Is there any way I can reset my network and ports back to the default settings or am I utterly screwed? I'd really prefer not to have to reinstall my whole OS just to fix my bittorrent or worse, have to download on Vista *shudders*. I'd rather go back to my uber-slow bittorrent than none at all. I've tried everything I can think of, even the godlike might of Google couldn't get me out of this one. Now I am forced to bother you, all because I wanted to see a damn sci-fi film from Switzerland (Cargo[2009]).
I'm unable to reset using either the reset option in gnome shell or the command using a terminal. When I select it the shell exits and displays the graphic "exploding" and then it just sits there. Shutdown works fine; just no reset. Any ideas? I've installed from the DVD. I booted the live CD and it resets just fine so I know it's no my hardware

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to setup oracle10g but, whenever I try to go to my database homepage http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex I get an "unable to connect to" error. Only reason I can think of as to why I can't connect to it is because my ports aren't open. I also recall SELinux complaining about something awhile ago, I can't seem to bring that up any more for some reason.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with images showing up as black boxes in konqueror, firefox, galeon, etc. I originally thought the problem was Firefox related, so I updated and the problem is still there.
I can't find anything with search that matched this exactly, so if I overlooked.
It seems to me that any time an image is re-sized it shows up as a black box. If I look at a wallpaper that's large, say 1200 x 800 or something, and the browser tries to resize it, it comes up black. However, if I click the same image and it returns to it's actual size, it looks perfect, as it should.
I look at a website I have to individually view each image and this is beginning to drive me crazy!
I have an Acer 5515 Laptop, with a ATI Express X1200 graphics card. I have taken a snapshot of when it happens.

I'm running fedora 11 and cisco version 4.8.01 (0640). When I connect to my work, and get authenticated, the system freezes completely. In searching it looks like at one point updating the kernel to a new version resolved this, at least for the 64bit implementation. I'm running 32bit and I'm on kernel kernel-PAE-2.6.30.8-64.fc11.i686 which is a newer version then what was listed in the other thread.

View 5 Replies View RelatedHello people. So, some days ago, I Installed Wine in my machine, and it was working pretty good. But I decided to add WineTricks. Since then, I can not install any program using wine, nor open the installed ones (gives me errors). So, does anybody knows about a way to completelly uninstall Wine? I have tries "yum remove Wine" and "yum remove wine*", but it doesn't do anything. I am using Fedora 13.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an older Compaq MT D220 with 2.4 GHz Celeron proc and 756 MB RAM, with F14 installed exclusively. I've yet to get Skype completely functional under these conditions. The loopback audio only test usually produces no sound or very broken sound. I tried upgrading my DSL from 3MBps max downstream and 0.5MBsp max upstream, to 6MBps max up and 1Mbps max down - to no avail!
System Monitor shows CPU and memory are below 100% utilization, and Skype's real time call stats show 0 packet loss. Perhaps using a leaner GUI than Gnome? I'm happy to report that as expected, other than this Skype issue and some lingering DVD-ROM and BackupPC issues, this old HW is much more tolerable with F14 than Windows XP!
This individual has been within the Ohio State computer labs for sometime because educational endeavors ceased building another Linux personal computer since the last AMD Socket A smouldered within a RAM melt. (Have on idea way there was a smoulder because over clocking was not invoked!) This query is interesting because almost all of the new processors sold are sixty four bit. Flash which is still alpha or beta and a couple of Google applications have not been fully embraced upon the x84-64 architecture which is problematic!
Why? This is just a random post that might be locked or deleted but an individual has been disturbed with the lack of x86-64 application support within Linux considering Unix operating systems have been upon this architecture for an extended period compared to Microsoft operating systems. Citing that SUN or now Oracle possessed the sixty four but architecture when this individual started to dabble within the I.T. industry many years ago. There is still substantial grief that Redhat did not purchase SUN for the hardware.
I'm here to lend your support again. I just install "VirtualBox" in Fedora12, but would like to recognize USB ports, how can I do this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been struggling for days trying to open port 53 and 25 but can't get it to work. My iptables at /etc/sysconfig contains the following:

On the server machine when I do port scan with nmap I see the following result:
Starting Nmap 4.76 [URL] at 2010-03-28 01:03 CET
Warning: Hostname localhost resolves to 2 IPs. Using 127.0.0.1.
Interesting ports on localhost (127.0.0.1):

But when I try to do telnet from an external machine, e.g:
telnet <IP of host> 53
I get:
Connection refused
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host
I also did a port scan with a tool on an external machine but port 53 and 25 weren't listed as opened ports. Also CheckDNS.net on the server returns "Connection reset. Probably DNS server is offline". I am 100% sure that named and sendmail are running. When I do a ps -aux I see:

how can i close all of ports and open ssh only?

i accidentally removed my taskbar from the bottom of my Fedora 11 KDE desktop. after messing around with it i was able to get a working panel using the add panel feature, but i dont like it.
how do i restore my KDE desktop to the Leonidas default that it installs with?
I created a separate /home partition to share between F10 and F11. And, of course, the gnome settings conflict. I really don't need to go back to F10 and when I install F12 over it I will omit including the separate /home directory during the install set up and that will force F12 to create the /home Dir on the same file system. So, to clear up gnome settings for now, is the only way mean deleting the .gconf, .gnome* directories? This was recommended in another post back a few years ago.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to reset the yum database so that it can go and re-apply the patches that have already been installed?
I have a Fedora 12 with the latest patches, and I managed to screw up some files or delete some files to the point where all I have now is the Fedora splash screen when I reboot.
I can get to single-user mode, and the thinking is that if I can get yum to ignore the latest patches that are already installed and pull down and re-install the latest patches, then whatever files that are corrupt or missing will be put back.
How can I reset the history of the command at? The system labels each command starting with 1, is there a ay to reset that back to 1.

I was building and testing custom kernels and somehow I managed to get the display configuration messed up so that when the computer boots up gets to starting the nouveau driver it displays garbage on the display. The boot up continues and I can login from another computer using ssh.
How do I reset the display configuration (or fix this problem)?
I have added nomodeset to the kernel parameters and the vesa drivers do work but I want the hi-res nouveau back without having to re-install f-14.
I mount my Fedora AMI on my EC2 account, when I reboot the system, the passwords for ec2-user and root are changed. On the web I found that is a "feature" .
View 1 Replies View Related/etc/udev/rules.d/20-our.rules has worked perfectly in FC6 and F10. In F11 I can't get udev to even look at it, much less execute the udev commands in it. Stat tells me that none of the relevant files have been accessed when I plug in a USB device that udevadm says was processed and which clearly matched the rules.. I reboot with several USB devices plugged in and according to stat nothing anywhere in /etc/udev was accessed during the boot process.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI am sick to the back teeth of fedora 11 Every time I try and run yum for any install at all it just keeps saying segment fault. When I have tried installing mysql it keeps coming up with the same fault yet again segment fault. I even get this stupid error when trying to install postgresql:
[Code]...
Its got nothing to do with my connection at all keeps happening at home, work when I use my vmWare server, I have a netinstall of FC10 so I am going back to that.
If anyone can help me in using a better method of making yum work, then thats brilliant but one final try and one error I am going back, this is a major rant as I am working for clients now and this just isnt suitable, if FC10 does this then I am going to a different dist like CentOS or something more robust as this is just rediculous!
After experimenting with wicd I've gone back to network manager. All is well on the networking front however I am having trouble stopping wicd completely.I've stopped it starting up the daemonchkconfig --list | grep wicdreturns emptybut when my kde windows starts up the wicd try icon start up.
