Fedora Hardware :: Can't Find A Stable Package For F15?
May 25, 2011
I installed Fedora 15 on a Vostro 3350 but the fan is always on. I know that the i8kutils package may solve the problem, but I can't find a stable package for Fedora 15. Did someone comes up with a solution,

I have found some stable releases of packages I use which are included in Debian stable to be outdated. For example: I use Kdevelop. I absolutely love it. Checking Kdevelop.org says that latest stable release is 4.2.3.However on my system, the latest stable package found is 4.0.1 In my sources list I've selected to use only stable packages:
deb http://security.debian.org/ squeeze/updates main
deb-src http://security.debian.org/ squeeze/updates main
deb http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/ stable main contrib non-free
deb-src http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/ stable main contrib non-free
BTW, I assume this is how I only get stable packages ? Why is it that although there are newer stable releases of Kdevelop, the latest (stable) found on Debian is 4.0.1 ? Is there something I can do in order to include those newer stable releases, other than downloading the source from the wesbite and building/installing ? I really like the way Debian handles it's packages, and I understand that Debian has it's own ways of doing things.

At first I thought it might be a free software thing but I went on the debian package search site and stable, sid, and experimental all have packages for wine. Why is there none for wheezy? Is it a temporary dependency thing or...? I've googled this but there has been no kind of answer anywhere. Right now I'm using the frickelplatz apotsid repository as they package the most recent version of wine but if I could use a standard debian repository I would.

Which is the current stable version of kernel in fedora 10 and how can I installed because right now I have unstable kernel:
uname -a
Linux blind 2.6.29.3-60.fc10.x86_64 #1 SMP Sat May 9 04:18:14 EDT 2009 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
I just want to get back to latest stable kernel of fedora 10. I'm not able from the grub to choose an older because there are only kernels for fedora 9. The problem was that previously I used fedora 9 however I upgrade it but it was still with kernel of fedora 9 so I pick it the unstable of fedora 10 and I installed it. Right now I just want to get back to current version of kernel in fedora 10 so I can upgrade it to fedora 11.

updated to F13 from stable, working F12 system which had 256.xx driver. Using official nvidia drivers (as Livna route has not worked for me in the past and only complicated things). startx stops right after line Loading extension NV-GLX with the following 'NVIDIA(0): WAIT: (E, 0, 0x857d,0)' according to xorg.log.
I am using the extra grub.conf entry to blacklist nouveau, i.e. rdblacklist='nouveau nomodeset'
This is a tyan h2000m and a 470 gtx.

I entered the command "sudo apt-get update" and it loads all the packages but when I am supposed to type in "sudo apt-get install ms-sys" I get the message "E: couldn't find package ms-sys."

On my 32-bit 10.04 system, I'm trying to run a tcl script that uses tk ("package require Tk") but I'm always getting this error:
can't find package Tk
while executing
"package require Tk"
tcl version is 8.5 whilst tk is 8.4.16-2 and tklib is 0.5-2. It seems that tcl is not able to find tklib so I wonder if there is a way to tell tll where to find the package.

I'm running Fedora 11, and just did an update of the system. It looks like there was an update to the package that takes care of knetwork manager. In the past, I have played around with it, but it hasn't met my needs, so I went back to nm-applet, which works fine.
I'm curious about the update, and would like to see if it works. However, knetwork manager won't start as there is another network manager already running (there is a message about this everytime I log in). I can easily kill nm-applet, but logging out and back in causes it to reload, and I still get the message from knetwork manager. So here are my questions:
1) With the update, is knetwork manager stable and robust enough for regular use (the docs for F11 said it wasn't upon F11 release, so included gnome's network manager as the default network manager)?
2) How do I get knetwork manager to work (I presume this means I turn off Gnome's network management and switch to knetwork management)?

I was trying to build an RPM today and the compilation errored out because the file glibconfig.h couldn't be found. I managed to track it down to the package glib2-devel.The problem is that I couldn't find a way to do this via zypper. In Mandriva I would've just done 'urpmf glibconfig.h' and it would've told me that it's provided by the package glib2-devel.
Is there equivalent functionality in zypper? (glibconfig.h is an easy pick as being related to glib, but some header file names might be more obscure for example)
