Fedora Hardware :: TP-Link TL-WN727N Not Detected?
Apr 30, 2011
I've installed F14 in dual boot with Windows XP. And while in XP my usb wi-fi adapter works in XP, i can't use it in linux, because it's not installed (i think). I need to install the adapter so i can have internet in F14. i've read some posts and threads in the forum but it's all very confusing and i've tried to download some rpm from the rpmfusion but i can't seem to install them, because it's always asking for some other version of the file.Heres some info, i've obtained based in what i've read:
Kernel Linux 2.6.35.6-45.fc14.i686
Gnome 2.32.0
[1.770483] usb 1-3: New USB device found, idVendor=148f, idProduct=3070

I'm having some issues getting connected with a TP-Link TL-Wn727N wireless USB adapter. I have no way to connect hard wired with the computer, but I have another working notebook to possibly download files. However, the second notebook is a Mac, so most of the posts I've found are not filling in all of the answers. Also forgot to note, I am using Ubuntu 10.10. I followed along with this and managed to get the card to find the wireless connection. However, the connection would never connect. After entering the security password the wireless icon would do it's thing and then pop up asking to ok the password again. I double, triple checked the password and it is correct. I found elsewhere that I should probably install wicd. This is where I've run into problems with finding the way to get files that I can download on the Mac and then installed on the Ubuntu computer. I managed to find this forum thread and downloaded this file I transferred the file from the Mac to the Ubuntu with a flash drive and tried to install. First the install said that Network Manager needed to be removed, so I removed it. Next it says "Dependency is not satisfiable: python-urwid." I'm not sure how to go about getting this dependency as it is not showing up in the package manager.

I just bought a new USB wireless adapter for my openSUSE 11.3 laptop, a TP-Link TP-WN727N. I can't get the new card to connect to my home wireless network, which is named WRT320N in the screenshot. KDE prompts for the key repeatedly but never connects successfully. Part of the problem might stem from the fact that this laptop now has 2 wireless cards: one build into chipset (PRO/Wireless 3945ABG) and the new USB card. Both show up in knetworkmanager but no clear distinction is made between them visually. Strangely my wireless network shows up twice in knetworkmanager as in the screenshot. Once per wireless card? As my wireless network is N-only I don't see why it would do this.

I just purchased this card, but when I run iwlist scan it shows 'No scan results'. I'm using the rt2800 drivers - I saw a couple of posts about using the rt2870sta driver but when I did this it didn't even show up under iwconfig. I'm sat next to my router and I've tried it with XP and it seems fine.

In the ordering of files I keep I need links to directories. Sometimes I even need to move directories to new locations. I have tried using symlinks, but they become dead when I move the directory they point to. I have tried hard links, but I haven't found any Linux file system that would support hard linked directories. How can I achieve that a complex structure of directories (currently with symlinks for directories and hard links for files) keep symlinks live when directories are moved?
- is there any utility that updates symlinks when a directory is moved?
- is there any Linux filesystem that supports hard linked directories?
- is there any good Linux interface to the new NTFS (the only file system I know to support automatically updating directory links, called directory junctions)?

I have a problem where I'm using Ubuntu linux to mount a Windows Vista machine's USB drive and access it on the web using Apache. I did have the USB drive plugged into the Linux machine directly and that was working via the web. FollowSymLinks is on in httpd.conf
[Code]....
The mount works and I can see the files (see above) from my regular linux user account. If I make a test file in /mnt and soft link to that, I can see it on the web. So it's just the mount to the vista machine that seems to be a problem. It's supposed to be a simple read-only mount and the apache login should (I think) be able to see the same generic root access permissions.
log from apache: [Mon Apr 26 20:39:42 2010] [error] [client 99.99.99.99] Symbolic link not allowed or link target not accessible: /home/user1/pub_html/Music, referer: https://xx.xx.xx/~user1/music.html
The credentials have a login and password that matches a special read-only account on Vista. I can see the files on the system from Linux, but not via the web. As mentioned above, a different link to the same /mnt area works fine via the web. I've tried several different mount options with no success.

I have searched around and am trying to understand the difference between a hard link and symbolic link (soft link). I found this link is quite useful. But I am still not very clear. I understand soft link is not a copy of original file, but is a hard link a copy or not?

There is a symlink from /var/www to a personal directory. FollowSymlink and chmod 755 are all set. It works perfectly until each morning I will get a "Symbolic link not allowed or link target not accessible" error. When I do a "sudo service apache2 restart", the problem will go away.

I'm sorry if this question has already been answered, here or in Google, but 5' of search didn't give me any satisfactory answer. I haver 2 users, usr1 and usr2. I have access for both users. I want to link a folder from usr1 into the home directory of usr2. That is, if usr1 has the following folder
/home/usr1/Music
I want usr2 to link to this folder in this manner
/home/usr2/Music/usr1
I want usr2 to have read and execute permissions over all files and folders under that link, but probably I don't want him to have write permissions.

I have a new Fedora 15 installation on my Lenovo T61 laptop. I have converted it from Windows 7 and am having some trouble getting it set up as desired. In particular, I am trying to add an executable link to a .jar file to my Activities Favorites bar.
I have tried right-clicking the icon from the Activities Application display to add to favorites like I can do with any other application but right-clicking does nothing. Dragging to the favorites bar does not work either. When I click on the icon, it just opens the Archive Manager so that may be related to the problem. The .jar file does actually run but I have to find it in the file manager, right click and then select Open With Java. what can I do to add a link in the Activities Favorites bar that opens my .jar file?

In Fedora 14 I used to have some links to often used folders in the top panel, and now I would like to have some shortcuts in the Gnome 3 dash. I tried adding a custom launcher to the applications menu using alacarte, but it doesn't show up there. There is, however, an entry in alacarte-made.desktop. Is there any way to accomplish this?
Code:
#!/usr/bin/env xdg-open

The past couple days I've been attempting to use ndiswrapper to connect to my home network wirelessly and have run into a slight problem. I'm able to install ndiswrapper (of course), and install the driver. ndiswrapper -l comes up good, showing the driver is in place for my netgear wg311v3 card.
modprobe ndiswrapper I am able to get to work without errors, except, when i type ndiswrapper -ma it writes another file to /etc/modeprobe.d/ndiswrapper causing the deprecation error.
The card scans for networks, and I'm able type in my encryption key.
However it doesn't connect. | grep comes up with the error that the wlan0 link is not ready.
I think I've also been able to determine that the configuration I've put in to the card through the network manager is not actually configured.
Anyone know how I could possibly connect with the card.. It seems it should be able to work. alias wlano is also in place.

I recently ran the software update tool which upgraded my kernel to version 2.6.32.9-70.fc12. Upon rebooting, the message "ata4.01: failed to resume link(SControl 0)" appears and it does not proceed to boot after this. I booted an older kernel and the message is still there, but it does proceed to gdm after it shows up. unable to find something with this exact problem.

I have "D-Link DWA-125 Wireless 150 USB Adapter". I can use this wireless adapter on my laptop, i can use it on my desktop as well but only when windows is running, im a newbie to fedora, today is my 2nd day and 3rd night, so pretty exited about it. i have installed fedora 13 on a different hard-disk on my desktop. when the computer is booting, there is an orange light on the adapter glowing, it turns off when the computer reaches the fedora loading screen. If i see fedora's Network Configuration window under the hardware's tab i see the "D-Link DWA-125 Wireless 150 USB Adapter" listed along with my lan card. Now if i go towards the clock on the top right to get the wireless connection working, it shows wireless network disconnected. I have tried creating wireless connection manually by inserting the SSID, macadress, BSSID, ,WPA passkey etc, but still doesnt works. when i try connecting using hidden wireless connection, i receive window for inserting keyring password again and again, stating that the login password does not match. but during all this time, i still havent seen the orange light glowing activity on the external usb adapter. If i restart the computer in windows the adapter/wireless connection works. also have checked the Network service, it seems that the service is up and running. i really require some assisstance on this,
i have noticed this, that if i go under network configuration. the first tab over there, inside devices i cant see my D-Link adapter, but if i switch onto the hardware tab it shows my lan card as well as my D-Link adapter. so does it means that the driver is missing? or any service which is disabled, however at this point of time i can get only using wired connection. please assist me. with this issue, im also downloading the 500 complete update as well for fedora, hoping that it may make it work.

I have what I thought would be a simple issue: I have a Linux server and a bunch of people with Macs on a small business network.I'm trying to set it up so that using AFP, people can access the Linux server and drag and drop files to our test web development server. In each person's home directory there's a sym link to the /var/www/html directory, so that they can easily plop their test files there.I've got the hard part taken care of: AFP works, the Linux server appears on the network, and the Mac users can connect and log in.However, my sym link doesn't show up as a directory inside the Mac Finder...it shows up as an application. I don't know if this is something as simple as a permissions problem or whether I need to do more configuring to get AFP to play nice.
